I asked Bob's Shoe Repair & Alterations to clean and repair my brown leather wedge sandals. Prior damage before repair: The leather was scrapped and one of the wedge sandals was cracked. After repair: They repaired the wedge but completely damaged the leather. I am very disappointed in the work product. I hope future customers have a better experience. read more

Worst craftsmanshop I have ever seen. Can't even replace the rubber heels on a pair of Cowboy boots. Ground in to the side of the plastic heels ( looks terrible) when I showed it to him and said I wasn't pleased he wanted to grind the heels off shorter untel the grind marks on the side were gone. ruined my boots $300 gone and I payed $20 for him to trash them. I had a favorite pair of shoes with 'spike' heels (tip is about 1/2") and the lift (that is the tip that touches the ground) had worn down to the metal inside. Took them in to have the lifts replaced. Took 2 weeks, and when I picked them up, they were dirty and dusty, but had new lifts. YAY!! Put them down and changed into them right there. Took 3 steps and the lift on one shoe disintegrated!! I handed them back and he told me I'd have to pay to have them redone. REALLY? I went ahead and got the new lifts done. 2 steps, and one again came apart. The man told me to either buy shoes with larger heels or to lose weight. No, not kidding. I am 5'9" and at that time, weighed about 170. Not grossly obese by any means as my doctor told me I only needed to lose 20 pounds. I asked for HARDER lifts. I was told they are all exactly the same. Not so, as I searched for and purchased some lifts that were advertised as HARD rubber, and the supplier had many different hardnesses and materials from which to choose. Terrible place. The worst boot repair (zipper replacement) I've ever experienced. The stitches were huge and sloppy and worse the zipper is cheap and gets stuck frequently. My $1000 riding boots are worthless because of this place. Stay away!! read more

They resoled 3 pair of shoes adequately but didn't polish and shine the shoes. When I asked them to do so they did a quickie job. The place is a disorganized pig sty. Still looking for a better shoe repair shop. read more

Going to Bob's Shoe Repair was a total accident. I had looked up shoe repair shops in the area and found Ace Shoe Repair. As it turns out, Bob's Shoe Repair has taken over the storefront for Ace Shoe Repair, but you wouldn't know it walking up because there's no official sign out front indicating the name of the store. So, I went inside and was shocked at the condition of the store. It was messy and disheveled. Shoes and other various things seemed to have been thrown everywhere. But, still thinking this was Ace Shoe Repair with a 3.5 star rating, I reluctantly left my expensive cowboy boots there to get polished and have some discoloration covered up. I looked up the storefront again later that night and realized what I thought was Ace was actually Bob's. And after reading the reviews, I was sitting on pins and needles throughout the entirety of my waiting period. But, when I arrived to pick up my boots, they were ready when he said they'd be and the boots looked better than I thought they would. Given the other reviews, the quality of work seems to be hit or miss. But if you're considering a shoe repair shop in the a Charlottesville area, I'd say keep an open mind and give Bob's a chance. I personally would not have if I had known what store I was entering, but Bob's pleasantly surprised me. read more

Brought my boots in on a Monday to have them worked on and was asked to pay for the service at that time. I asked if I would receive a call when they were ready and was told no and just come in on Wednesday afternoon and they would be ready for pickup. I came in Wednesday afternoon and was told they hadn't had a chance to work on them yet but they would be ready the following day. The next day I received a call saying they wouldn't be ready until the following Wednesday (week and a half from original drop-off). I patiently waited until the following Wednesday and then showed up and was AGAIN told they weren't ready and they wouldn't be until the next Tuesday or Wednesday (2+ weeks from original drop-off). I gave up on the waiting game and requested my boots & money back. Never did they seem to care about giving me incorrect information or having me drive to their store for no reason and I never received any sort of apology. Big waste of time! read more

After 3 MONTHS the repairs on my coat lining had not been completed ... or even started. Details: September 2016 I dropped off my winter coat, discussed the repair to be made (coat lining came apart at the seams in a few areas), and was told it would be ready in a couple of weeks, because the couple doing the repairs were on vacation. October 2016: I made multiple calls to check status, was told "call back next week" because it wasn't done yet. November 2016: I made 3 more calls plus I stopped in, in person. Repairs hadn't even begun. Was told they "need more time," and to "check in next week." Early December 2016: I called again, talked to a younger guy who said he is an "owner," who told me "they don't want to repair it." (Yes, that's a direct quote!!). I asked to speak to them, but they were away on another vacation. Mid-Late December 2016: I called again, was now told that yes it could be repaired but the price of the repair would be $400.00. Yes, you read that correctly too. Summary: I picked up the coat three months after dropping it off, I never received any update or contact from them, it was never touched, they didn't WANT to repair it, then I was given an outlandish cost for the repair nearly 10x the original estimate. Stay away from this place, the level of incompetence and laziness is beyond compare. read more

Terrible -- resoled a pair of beloved boots, but their work didn't last more than a month.

They replaced the cuff zippers on my Vanson motorcycle jacket, and the zippers used work better than the factory ones. The price was reasonable, and it was done when they said it would be done. I would go there again, and recommend their services. read more

Don't trust these folks! They make you pay before doing the work, then don't do what they say they will do. Extremely poor effort to repair the shoe; I could have done much better without much effort. And, the service was terrible--promised 4 days, still not ready when I came back in 8 days, and even after that I had to come back multiple times. Their surly attitude to go along with broken promises and poor workmanship/lack of skill made me really regret ever walking in the door. read more
