I find a beautiful dark orange lace shirt on sale! Ugh too big.. my husband suggest I still buy it and find a tailor shop.. well I found this one and I'm glad he suggested it! The shop is in a weird spot.. if you walk to the address with google maps it takes you to the pedestrian mall and you'll end up in front of a chocolate shop and a massage place. I was pretty confused so I call and I'm directed to the right side of the building next to the bank. I keep walking and I end up in an alley I think I'm in the wrong spot but I keep walking in and I hit the tailor shop! So weird. It was $15 to get this shirt taken in to my perfect shape! I love it! I had a wonderful experience with Simin tailoring! I have a true hourglass shape which makes it impossible to buy items that are "ready to wear." This often leaves me buying items in a large size that require tailoring down. While finding great tailoring was easy in NYC, Charlottesville is really sore for quality tailoring individuals. Luckily, after looking into two other local shops, I discovered Simin. In this case, I brought a formal foxhunting jacket that was an odd fit and much to large (understand that getting a jacket taken in and extensively tailored is not a simple job.) The jacket done within a week and it was tailored beautifully! It honestly looks like it was custom made for me. I am a very impressed by the quality of work these ladies do. Five star worthy! I tailored my suit here. Long story short, they did a good job. However, there were a lot of issues getting to that end result. I was told to pick it up on a Wednesday. I came in Wednesday afternoon at about 3:30 PM. They nervously looked around for my suit for about 5 minutes and couldn't find it. They first asked me to come back "later". When I asked when she said "this afternoon". It was already 3:30 and they would close soon. I came back the next day and thankfully they found my suit. I returned a few days later during business hours (about 1 PM) to get some shirts altered and there was a sign on the door that said "will be back by 12 PM". Overall their work isn't too bad; however, they definitely need to improve on a few things. read more

I would give 0 stars if I could. Dropped off some dress shirts for tailoring at the end of April, was told I could pick them up early May. When I came in the first time in mid-May my shirts had not been done. I came back today (early June) and the shirts had still not been touched. When I asked for my shirts back so I could take them to another tailor, the young lady working started making excuses about her manager being sick and unable to do the work in a timely fashion. When I insisted that I still wanted my shirts back she changed her tune (and tone) and refused to give them to me stating that her manager needed to be present. It was only when I made it clear that I would not be paying for any alterations even if they were done today that she relented and gave me my shirts back. Incredibly unprofessional, uncomfortable, and overall bizarre experience. Not sure how this place has gotten so many glowing reviews. read more

Let me tell a story about Simin's. I was new to Charlottesville and needed two dresses tailored in a rather short time frame. They finished the job with time to spare so I went to go pick it up. Warning #1...free parking close by during the day is unlikely. Simin's is kind of tucked in an alley. So I illegally parked, whoops. Warning #2...love you Simin's but it's CASH ONLY. So I ran to the Walgreens to get cash back. Apparently running turned off my mental math and I did not withdraw enough money. They said "don't worry about it, come back and pay us" #honorcode. A month later (whoops again) I return with the remaining balance and interest. I leave the cash with them and a million verbal thanks yous. Ran back to my, yet again, illegally parked car...and she had CHASED AFTER me, to give me change. When I insisted the extra was for them, she refused and requested a Yelp review instead. So here we are. Head my warnings, even though Simin's was incredibly accommodating with all my personal errors. read more

So wonderful! After looking all over Charlottesville for someone who could alter a women's suit jacket without butchering the sleeves (do not let other places cut off half of the button holes - find someone who can take it up from the shoulder!), I finally came in to Simin. They were not only able to do a great job on the sleeves, but also made the shoulders a little smaller, which I have always been told elsewhere is totally impossible. They did all of this in a very short time, plus hemming two pairs of pants (first time anyone has gotten it right on the first try since my legs are slightly uneven). Everyone was nice and, maybe I'm just not used to Charlottesville, but they charged me an alarmingly small amount of money for work that I have paid much much more to have done in major cities. I went to Simin to get my wedding dress altered. She couldn't have done a better job. The top was very low cut so she took the fabric that was taken off the bottom from hemming, and sewed it perfectly to match the shape that was already there. No one could even tell that I had it altered. I would trust her with any of my clothes. She knows what she is doing!! I came to this place to get a pair of pants hemmed, simplest job possible. They came back completely uneven and too short. I went back to complain and they said they could fix it -- they even lied and said they could fix the length. (I didn't see how that was possible, but what did I have to lose?) When I got them back again they were exactly the same! I had to take them to a different tailor to get them evened out (Gus' on West Main, which is the only place I'll go now), but they're still just barely long enough to wear. read more

Very disappointing results. They took in a flowy high waisted style skirt that I bought from Anthropologie and when I came to pick it up, it had been completely ruined. The skirt was now too small, the zipper was sticking, and it was poofing out and bunching along the side seams. Superb quality. I bike a lot so I ripped my pants one day, and I found this shop on my way home. The lady was super nice and felt bad for me and repaired the pants in a very short time. A couple weeks later, I had to get a blazer tailored and I stopped by again--this time it took a weekend and cost me about half what another store asked. Since this fiasco ( 2 months later) the owner has called me to apologize and I greatly appreciate the responsibility she took, she offered to pay me back however I told her that was not necessary. During the conversation she referenced my review and asked that it be altered or taken down. As a busy working professional I did not have time to do it on the night she called. She has continued to call me multiple times in a row. While I appreciate the apology and have put it in the past, I strongly advise to use caution with this business as I have noticed this week similar reviews to mine have been taken down to leave only the rave reviews I saw when I chose the company. To summarize: my brothers wedding was May 28, after several fiascos made by the ordering company I got my dress two weeks before the wedding. I chose Simins solely because of the reviews on Yelp. I had multiple phone conversations with Simins and was assured the dress would be done the Monday before the wedding giving them 2 weeks to do alterations. When it came time to pick up my dress my phone calls were not returned so I just showed up at the store. After looking for my dress for 20 minutes I was told that it was at "home" but ready. When I sent someone to pick it up the next day the dress was not ready. The man called me and told me the seamstress had to leave the country because of a family emergency but promised it would be ready the next day, then called two hours later to say it couldn't get done. I had to drive to Pittsburgh a day early and pay 200 dollars for alterations. When I took out the dress to try it on i immediately started crying because the dress had been cut unevenly at the bottom, zipper and fabric ripped apart and there was a run in the middle of my 300 dollar dress. read more

This was an absolutely awful experience. I'm still not sure what was worse about my interaction with this company, the service or the shoddy tailoring. The shop randomly closes without warning and does not respond for days, without a single sign of remorse or any regard for customer satisfaction. The tailors placed a safety pin through the front lapel and shoulder of a suit jacket and left holes in the material. More importantly, the quality of the work is unbelievably disappointing. A simple hem on the side of a dress shirt has already frayed and become undone in 4 wears. This place is a farce and I do not recommend it at all. read more

The shop is in the alley next to Halo Spa. I recommend calling to make sure they are open when dropping off and picking up your garments. I had a suit taken in on one occasion and and two button up shirts tailored here on another occasion, both for work interviews. She asked me to try them on before leaving to make sure I liked how they fit, and made an adjustment to the suit jacket on the spot for no additional cost. The suit and shirts fit after the adjustments. Prices were reasonable (pay in cash at pick-up) and the garments were ready for pick up in a few days. read more

I recently had three pairs of pants hemmed and a linen jacket shortened. The alterations were superb and the customer service was excellent. Most impressive, however, were a pair of suit pants that I had split (not on the seam) rendering the suit useless. I brought the pants to Simin and they were able to repair them with not a trace of their work. This saved my suit! I have another similar tear in another pair of pants and will be bringing them to get fixed this week. Prices were very reasonable, especially considering they saved me from having to buy another suit. I strongly recommend Simin Tailoring. this place was awesome. they are open until 7pm on weekdays. i walked in almost before closing and asked to get two jobs done on pants: letting down seams to lengthen the inseam on one pair and then fixing the zipper on another. they told me to come back the next day. total cost was $20, and SUCH fast fixing. now i can wear two pants again! definitely recommend. they're a little hard to find. they are more on the water st side of 4th st in this little alleyway that has a sign. read more

I took in a suit jacket that was a full size too large. The seamstress offered what I thought was a pretty fair price ($40) considering this was a somewhat complicated alteration (I sew, and had no idea how to do it myself). She asked when I needed it (one week), and said she would get it done by Monday, when I took it there on Friday afternoon! I called on Monday and she said it would be done that night. When I arrived Tuesday, she said it wasn't finished yet, which was a bit annoying, but I hung out on the mall for half an hour while she finished. She charged $45, but I didn't complain, because I figured that meant it had been more complex than she anticipated, although I wish she stuck to the quoted price. The jacket was tailored PERFECTLY.
