I went here on a Friday afternoon at 3:45PM. I called, but did not get an answer. They are located fairly close to my home, and I wanted to find a regular masseuse. I drove to Poplar Plaza, and saw the Open Sign. The door was locked and I knocked. After verifying it said walk-ins welcome + closes at 6 + open sign is on, I walked in and knocked again. One of the employees came to the door and cracked it. I said "Hi, I'm here for a massage. It said walk-ins welcome online and on the door." She rudely said "We're both busy." The door was still cracked as if I was a door to door salesman and this was her home. Truthfully, I was willing to wait until they were finished, however this woman wasn't interested in me being a customer. She never greeted me. She didn't try to sell me on a different time. She didn't capture my information. She dismissed me, and for that.. Body Mechanix can have a single star. Don't trust the open sign. read more

Their suite is located in Poplar Plaza right next to the entrance of French Riviera Spa. My masseuse was Pam. She was great and really attentive. Not only did he get my burnt-out legs back onto recovery road, but turns out he also specializes in Massage for Pediatric Autism, which, although not relevant to my own situation, I think is pretty cool. The Body Mechanix facility itself is, for me, a nice half-way point between "gym functional" and day spa--it's clean, attractive, and conducive to relaxation, but not something out of an old Calgon commercial. I've never really been a "get a massage" person. I'm modest and really hinky about people I don't know touching me. I've resisted it for years, until I just had no choice. Several months ago, I reached the crisis point with my neck and shoulders, and, at my husband's suggestion, I gave it a go. (Mostly because he was sick of me asking for a neck massage) Thank goodness I did. I had heard great things about Pam, and they are all true. And then some. I've been several times now, and she is very sensitive to my needs and what's bothering me, and I always leave feeling better. She is so professional that I feel completely at ease now, and look forward to my sessions, as I know I'll feel so much better when I leave. I scheduled (online, the night before) an appointment with Lynn Smith. The next morning, she called right away to verify my appointment, discuss any concerns, and to welcome me a little earlier than business hours to fill out their new client paperwork. The office and massage area was clean, and decorated with informative posters/diagrams of muscle structure, nerve attachments, and various other anatomy and physiology information. Before starting, Lynn was careful to discuss my concerns, my past experience with massage therapists, and what issues I'd like to address. She spoke with me at length about my problem areas, and the types of stretches and self-massages I could do at home/work to help get me through. The massage was exquisite. She kept the lines of communication open concerning pressure level and comfort, without ever crossing the line of being too chatty - which I've experienced before. She checked and rechecked the pain and sensation level concerning my trouble areas and overall, made me feel like a valued client. After tipping, the head-to-toe (scalp massage and foot work) with 60 minute deep tissue massage came it to be a little under $150. I didn't have a chance to call her right away since I was in another city...So just recently, I contacted her and we arranged an appointment for the next day. The shop was clean and nice and scheduling was easy, but I was not impressed with my massage. I paid $70 for 45 minutes of sports therapy massage and walked out feeling no better than when I walked in. I chose the shop based upon the Yelp reviews, but was not impressed with the quality. At the beginning of my appointment, I told my masseuse that my main problem area was my calves - I am in the midst of a half marathon training cycle and the speedwork/distance have been making them really tight. After stressing that I am a runner and my legs needed attention desperately, he spent probably 30 minutes of my 45 minute appointment on my shoulders and maybe 15 on my legs (split between calves and quads). My shoulders feel great, but the issue I sought relief from is not improved in the least. I cannot vouch for other massage styles, but my experience would not lead me to recommend Body Mechanix for any sports medicine massage services. read more

I woke up on vacation visiting family with a near paralyzing neck/shoulder pain, and was desperate for someone to "fix" me so that Christmas wouldn't be ruined! I was worked on by Anne, who really knew what she was doing. She did Shiatsu, deep tissue, a little bit of stretch work on the effected area and used the right kind of balms to get the muscle moving. This place is somewhat hidden behind the French riveria which makes it interesting finding the place. The staff is very nice and genuinely wants to make you feel comfortable. I used the yelp coupon which does come in handy. I would recommend going there if you need some massage done. read more

I was SO very pleasantly surprised by Body Mechanix and instantly checked-in via Facebook siting "Best Massage EVER", once I'd left. Finding the right massage therapist is a process - and everyone has different ideas of what's ideal. I love Rick - he's professional, attentive and his style (a mix between Swedish and Deep Tissue? I'm not an expert on types of massage) makes for a relaxing yet rejuvenating hour. The storefront isn't spa-worthy but the rooms and tables are cozy. Plus the price is great. This was an okay place for me. I came here because of the high reviews and how my boyfriend also bought me a gift certificate from here. They had a very nice, spacious, and relaxing environment. But of course it all comes down to the service. Massage was relaxing, but I definitely didn't get any kind of relief feeling afterwards, which was quite disappointing. No hot stones or hot towels included unlike the usual place I go to. This is definitely my first and last. I didn't hate it, but the feeling of relief afterwards is a must for me. I had no problem making an appointment on an hour's notice and Rick did a great job hitting my problem areas with firm, but not painful pressure, but something about it left me...unfulfilled. so i finally used my gift card i got for christmas. i got a 45 minute massage. it was not a weenie massage. it was thorough and relaxing. stress has made my shoulders and neck a knotted tight mess. my lmt james worked hard and loosened all the tight muscles. i felt taller and more relaxed when i left. i also got a minty revitalization foot massage. your feet get exfoliated with a minty scrub, then wrapped in hot towels, and finally massaged. i love a good foot massage. anyways, their prices are decent and they are offering deals all the time. i got a gift card for mother's day for my mother in law. for a gift card $51 and over, you get a free $25 value scalp and face massage. they have a website. check it out. it really is a good value. what they lack in spa-like plushness, they more than make up for in quality of massage. read more
