Bogda is a very unique restaurant in Waterloo that serves Uyghur (Xinjiang) cuisine. I've never tried it until my friend recommended me and brought me there. My only regret was that I have never tried it during my 5 years at Waterloo - it was absolutely amazing. I ordered a Tohogoshi Narin (大盘鸡) Large Size, as well as Lamb Skewers on the side. The noodles were so well-seasoned with perfectly-sauced chicken and potatoes. The noodles were hand-made and delicious.The large size noodles should usually serve 2-3 people, but it was so good that I pretty much finished myself. The lamb skewers are a must try. I've never had so many large lamb skewers with such price. It's the best deal in Waterloo, and the best lamb skewers I've tried anywhere. The lamb was juicy, tender and grilled to optimal condition. It was satisfaction to the max. They have a comprehensive and authentic menu of Uyghur dishes full of lamb and beef. The price is acceptable although leaning on the higher side. This place offers authentic Central Asian cuisine and it is mostly about lamb meat. Also, it contains more fat than a usual Westerner would expect. Pilaf is also more oily than you are used to, but the dish was created that way. You will see many Uighur people coming here and that fact speaks for itself. If this restaurant wants to attract a wider audience, I would advise modifying some dishes by removing excess fat, but if you are looking for an authentic taste, that is the place to go. read more

The restaurant is a no-nonsense, not fancy place. No real "service" but decent meats. The lamb kabobs were delicious - well seasoned and extremely tender. I would pass on the noodle dishes - it was just noodles in a warm sauce - not really unique or good. At over $30 for both + tax & tip, it was expensive for what it was and the lack of service really rubbed us both the wrong way. ***Directions: Located right across from the new Laurier SBE building*** I was really surprised to find an Uyghur restaurant in Waterloo. I've been to a couple of Uyghur restaurants in China and this place is definitely on par in terms of authenticity. The lamb skewers are tender and well flavoured. Noodles are chewy with cooked in delicious spicy sauce. My friend and I also tried the Uyghur salad which was sort of like a Chinese cold dish with cucumber, red pepper, onion and cilantro tossed in chili/garlic oil vinaigrette sauce. The restaurant is clearly family owned and the decor gives a cozy vibe. Service is friendly and speedy. Only con is it is pretty pricey - expect to spend $15-$25 per person. read more

Dropped by BOGDA tonight for pick up and the quality was just as good as dining in. Ordered few of my favorites including the lagman, the hand pulled noodles with sautéed veggies and beef. We happened to stop by since the Bao place in the complex was unexpectedly closed and Bogda was well reviewed. We ordered the 4 lamb skewers and M10 (flat noodles with lamb). Service (3.5/5): Nice people but we had to ask multiple times for many things. It was one of the women's first day though. Lamb skewers (1/5): By far the worst we have ever had. The flavour was nice but it was literally half fat. The other half was so chewy it was largely inedible. The waitress saw we didn't like it, asked why, and then told us it was supposed to be like that. In reality, they just used a really, really cheap cut of lamb. M10 Besip Lagman (2.5/5): Pretty nice large, flat noodles if you like some chewiness in your noodles. The sauce was thin and could have used more depth. It would have been nice to have more vegetables. The lamb slices were a little tough but pretty darn tender when compared to the skewers. read more

I really enjoyed this place! The decor is really nice, the owners are suuuuper friendly, and the food is S O G O O D. The lunch menu is pretty good, the spicy chicken rice is reaaaallly good and it is quite spicy so if you can't eat that much spice I would recommend asking for less spice. The handmade noodles are delicious and so flavourful! What really sold me was the owners though, the servers were super friendly and you can really tell they love that place and what they're doing. They really made sure we were comfortable and are really enthusiastic about sharing their culture and food with everyone. Would really recommend! OK, brand new restaurant here in waterloo. Prices are on the higher end but portions are filling and food provides quality. I really enjoyed the lamb skewers there. Staff is very friendly seems to be family, small restaurant so service is pretty quick. I do want to make a note that they did give one of our dish to the table next to us. Not a big deal. This was my first time having Uyghur cuisine and I will definitely be back for more! I'm a huge fan of handmade noodles which meant I had to try the beef handmade noodles. The noodles were the perfect amount of chewy and the broth was delicious. My friend had the Polo ( Rice with braised lamb and carrots) where the lamb was cooked perfectly tender. We wanted to try the Naan but unfortunately it was sold out earlier! I look forward to trying more dishes next time. Only downside I would say is that this is a pricier place but I believe the authentic flavours and cooking makes up for it! read more

Correction to my post they do serve beer one brand only but it is a good brand. Second time I had the noodles very well done and 4 kabobs also very good . I go to WLU, and I always walk by this restaurant on my way home. I noticed that they don't usually have many people in the restaurant, so I decided to walk in and try it out. First, I go in and they tell me that their Lunch Special items 1-7 aren't available (all chicken items that come with a spring roll) so I order the 8, which is spicy beef. My meal was $10.16, so I gave the cashier $10.25, and she also neglected to give me my change. Fine, whatever, it's $.10. I get the beef and when I come home, the food is 90% rice, and there's literally like 10 thin slices of beef. Overall, I am very dissatisfied with this, as I am a student and for $10, I can go to another Chinese restaurant and get way more value. read more

This place is amazing! Very friendly staff, super delicious and fresh food (homemade noodles!), and the atmosphere is really relaxing! We had the chicken and noodle dish with potatoes which was absolutely fantastic! We ordered a beef, noodle and veggie dish for our toddler and they were very nice to cut the noodles so she could eat it easier. She gobbled it up and so did we.
