Delicious cafe offering up some "American brunch" options in Gracia neighborhood! While we have…read moreenjoyed every aspect of our trip there was no denying we just missed the ability to have good ol' fashioned eggs for breakfast instead of a pastry. We stumbled upon Kamelia and they offered just that for us! They have a bunch of great egg dishes and breakfast dishes to try up and lots of vegetarian options too. I got the Eggs V which was a type of Benedict with english muffin, eggs avocado, asparagus and chick peas. PS chickpeas on eggs is GENIUS. We got some fries and salad on the side. My husband ordered the mushroom omelette which was so delicious and full of mushrooms! This is a great option if you want something cheap, quiet and off the touristy areas but also appeals to a standard "american breakfast" if you need it!

Items Selected: Chocolate Frappe…read moreDulce de Leche Sugar and Raspberry Jam Tahini Pistachio Established in 1992 by a Greek ex-patriot in Barcelona, Lukumas Holes & Coffee was the third Breakfast stop on Friday, a visit earlier in the week prevented by the Doughnuts Shop's Cash-only policy but the wait perhaps fortuitous as the shelves were fully stocked on arrival with several of the glazed rings still warm to touch. Located on Carrer del Torrent de l'Olla, essentially an ally with clotheslines hanging overhead and access limited to those traveling by foot or bike, it was just prior to 11h00 that a party of two entered the small space where an English-fluent couple was chatting and enjoying Coffee, the same server present as during the first visit immediately complimenting one guest's T-Shirt featuring a Pig and thus kicking off a lengthy five-person conversation about the movie Okja on Netflix. Small and homey in its design, a single glass case of Donuts on the counter in front of an Espresso Machine with a small plastic Pig and map of Greece the only real decorations aside from colorful seating for four, it was after weighing both the choices and remaining appetite that the decision was made to invest in three Doughnuts plus a Chocolate Frappe, the drink cool and creamy but unfortunately overwhelmed by unsweetned Whipped Cream which made the last several sips mostly undrinkable. Moving on to the Donuts, Rings and Holes of several traditional flavors in addition to a few novelties offered next to Bagels, it was with two filled choices and one topped in sweetened Tahini and crushed Pistachios that the order was comprised, the bases all identical with an egginess reminiscent of Brioche while the toppings and fillings were all quite good, the Sugar and Raspberry Jam far lighter and more natural than many found Stateside while the Dulce De Leche pocket featured thick Caramel beneath Vanilla Glaze and Cinnamon Streusel.

As displayed on their Instagram, it doesn't come in the beautiful flowery design. This is fine, because I don't need my food to look pretty in order to enjoy it, but the taste wasn't there either. The bread wasn't enjoyable at all and all I feel like I could taste were the massive tomatoes that they threw on there. I ended up adding a bunch of olive oil and a little salt and pepper to try and mask the dry bread. Didn't help much. My tab for the latte and the avocado toast was around 10€. The restaurant does have a nice and cozy atmosphere. A good place to study or read a book and have a coffee, but maybe not eat toast.

After a dozen attempts to dial in the pour the staff was honest and upfront about the selection that it couldn't be made to their standards. Wow, love this! Instead of giving me my drink and rushing me out the door, it was all about the quality. Being new to espresso making at home I fully understand the 1:2 ratio in a specific amount of time for making espresso. I took their advice and went with another bean selection. My iced cafe latte was for take away and I thoroughly enjoyed the flavors. One thing to note for any Americans that expect sweetener, there is none here. I wasn't bothered by this but I could see many others might be. Looking back I wish I had bought some beans to bring back home to Cali.

Service was fast - order at the middle kiosk and wait for your drink. They have a few iced drinks available, and you can choose which 3-4 beans to make the drink with. As for the iced latte, it was definitely less better and slightly more sweet and creamy due to the milk. You still tasted a bit of the flavor of the coffee.

The owners did not seem to speak much English, but luckily my vague remembering of high school Spanish and fervent gesticulations sufficed. We ordered the classic jamón ibérico, a Russian salad, and two smoothies (containing mango, papaya, guava juice, and pineapple, among some other frutas I cannot seem to recall). The smoothies were perfect for the hot day in store. Made from only the fruits and juice base, it tasted fresh and delicious. The jamón was also amazing, and this experience set our expectations high for upcoming dining experiences. We wound up returning to this cafe 3 other days for breakfast (3 of our 7 breakfasts there)! There was no other place that really hit the spot quite like this one. Or perhaps we were just major suckers for a good smoothie. Either way, it speaks volumes when two tourists spend 4/21 precious meals in a new city at the same location! A must-try for anyone in the Barcelona area.

But hold that thought because these arepas are friggin' dynamite! Never been to Venezuela but THESE arepas are officially gonna be labeled as the best that I've tried thus far! Y'all... I was literally walking to my next tour location as I had a little bit of time to spare. Walked past this place and it smelled amazing. Walked back and realized that it was a Venezuelan cafe. I wasn't even all that hungry so I figured that I'd just come back later. Started walking away and then turned back around. It was the smell. It just... got me. I needed to taste whatever they were cookin' and I just couldn't wait. I needed to try it NOW. Best friggin' decision that I could have made. Literally. All of sudden I was hungry and all of these beautiful breads and pastries sat in front of me. They all looked delicious but I wanted whatever I was smelling. That's when I saw it; an arepa! Oh man flippin' gawsh! Nearly lost my sh!t. When I tell you that it is so hard to find Venezuelan food in my area. The one place that I've been frequenting is good, but after trying the food here... it just blew that sh!t out of the water! Seriously! My favorite flavor of arepa is pabellón and of course they had it. Ordered it quickly along with an alfajor for a nice little after lunch treat. For some reason, I thought the arepa was gonna be like a snack size. This is what I'm used to from what I've had back home. I was clearly mistaken. THIS arepa was a whole damn meal. Like an ENTIRE meal all on its' own. It was huge and stuffed to the max! And OMG the flavaaas! Mmmm! So effing DELISH! First off, that bread! Geezus! Piping hot and crispy like they just made it front scratch. I wouldn't doubt if they had because that's what it tasted like. The tasty beef shreds, the black beans, the sweet plantains, and the crumbled cheese... mmm just heavenly together! It created the most beautiful flavors in the world. I was hooked Instantly. Every time I bit into this thing, my eyes started rolling to the back of my head. So crazy because this is probably considered cheap street food but in my little mind, it's state of the art. Plus, it really IS cheap in price. €5-6 will get you one super filling and scrumptious arepa. Their cafe is small but super comfy and cozy. Also, this place is poppin'! After I sat down to eat, several people came in and a small line formed and the place got busy. This seems like the local neighborhood gem for sure. Also, the staff is very sweet and they speak English! I actually tried to come back here again, but they were closed. I think they close around 6 or 7. But my Gawwwd was it good! This is one of the places that I've been dreaming about ever since I left. I would without a doubt come back here again on a future visit. Excellent little gem!
