What started as a goal to buy beans, transformed into a unique educational experience complete with a cup of coffee and exceptional conversation. When I entered the shop, I was immediately greeted warmly by the owners, Rachael and Matthew. Rachael made me a delicous latte just for stopping in! Sensing my interest in the process of coffee roasting, Rachael gave me a personal tour of the company's roasting and production area. The company also fixes coffee machines. Matthew and Rachael continued with a tour of the workshop filled with machines and parts. Their knowledge of coffee and all aspects of production is very impressive. After having coffee at a number of fabulous restaurants in Hobart, I was amazed to discover that Tascaffe is the supplier for all of them. They roast and produce a diverse range of coffee blends unique to various establishments. I procured two bags of coffee beans including the strong Retro blend and Italiano for extremely reasonable prices. Such delicious coffee and so fun to learn the process behind the coffee. This proved to be a highlight of my trip to Tasmania.

I'm smelling what you're stepping in. Criterion St may just be my favourite little stretch of the city, and I think it's because of you and your little takeaway brother, Ecru. (Good idea opening him, it does get crowded in you very easily.) You're not exactly a "lunch" venue, but those noms inside the cabinet hit the spot just fine for morning or afternoon tea. Though to be honest, it's your coffee I sneak in here to visit. Pulling up at your window bench with a flat white is my idea of peace right now.

Firstly, let's set the scene. Heavens Above is a tearoom in an old/ex church space, with a little graveyard out the front, to boot. Classic. There's a breakfast menu and a lunch menu, but if you arrive just on the cusp of lunch the kitchen will probably still be kind enough to fry you up some crispy bacon and mushrooms, aka the perfect simple breakfast menu item. Definitely don't go past the drinks menu either--I couldn't quite fit in the namesake hot chocolate on my first visit but I've thought about it at least twice a week since my visit and I'll be returning soon to hit dat. Top it all off at Heavens Above with wonderfully sweet service and you've got five stars from me. I can't help myself. Send me back to Heaven.
