The only reason they are getting one star is because everyone we spoke with from start to finish of this fiasco was at the very least cordial albeit once or twice with a hint of rudeness. DO NOT bother taking your machine here period! I cannot speak to the quality of their work because they did ZERO WORK. They will quote time frame and come no where near delivering the service on time. We were quoted max 1.5-2 weeks to look at a simple old residential mower and tune up/repair. We would have never left the machine had the quote been longer, and we were assured it would be done in two weeks. We had to contact them multiple times asking for updates (because they lack the common decency and customer service to call and update people) as they went WEEKS PAST their original quote and they had not even looked at or started work on the mower. Finally, my senior mother had had it and wanted her mower back (we had taken it there to have it tuned and possibly repaired - as part of a Mother's Day gift ... we chose this place because it is local, these types of places make local small businesses look bad). A MONTH after the original drop off - She stopped in and asked them to return her machine and not do the work, they told her to come back in the late afternoon because it was in storage and they couldn't get to it. Miraculously they started working on the machine in what only can be garnered as a BS low brow shady move to claim they did something to try to justify charing $45 for doing jack squat! Some employee called up and said he was doing a tune up and it couldn't be repaired...not real smart buddy since we cancelled the work hours prior and then someone started working in it and not only that they were supposed to look at it first to determine what could be done. We got the mower back, still in not working condition and zero work had been done ... clearly no one had even touched it - not one thing had been done. I had a moment where I thought maybe these were honest honorable business people because I hadn't seen a charge, which makes sense since they were WEEKS LATE and did ZERO WORK! Ha laughable, because there it showed up the charge to my account. I called and had a cordial conversation with the manager, he kept spewing one excuse after another trying to cover up the bad quote and bad action and lies from his staff. I asked if we could either get the $45 refunded or compromise at least 50% returned. He went on to make up some lie about the receipt saying no refund, I shared I had the receipt in hand and assured him there was no such language - he then started on to a new shady lie about how it must be the work order, and I told him no indeed it is a receipt with all my billing information. I would not recommend business with Boise small engine repair on Fairview, they did a horrible job repairing my Garden tiller was worse off then when they received it missing bolts and washers and pins falling out of the carburetor. Trying to charge me 45$ for the diginogouss and additional money for repairs that were not properly preformed. I was call and told the tirrer was repaired I refused to pay the additional money and they agreed but refused to reimburse the 45.00 Call backs were not made as promised read more

I came here to get my chainsaw blade sharpened. I knew it was about 10 minutes until closing. I talked to the gentleman and let him know what I needed. He said he be happy to take care of it and it would only take 10 minutes. I was surprised! I thought I would have to drop and pick it up next week sometime. But he was true to his word and it was done in less than 10 minutes on the spot! They also rebuild chains. Very friendly staff. Didn't try to sell me something I didn't need. read more

I repair most everything on my small farm and I even have my own shop. I had trouble getting the parts I needed for my riding lawn tractor from the Ariens Company. The blade bolt had fallen out,and the washer came off along with the blade, the bearings were still good. I called them and the told me a diagnostic was $30, and it sounded like i could make the repairs myself, so I arranged transportation to get an evaluation and order parts (bolt, washer and spindle). I have replaced two spindles in prior years. When I got there they agreed to my evaluation and said they were going to order parts, which included blades because Home Depot had given me generic blades. They said they were behind on getting work orders done and I said I just needed them to evaluate the deck. So I left the tractor there with complete confidence. After one week I had a friend call for me, he was told( by the parts department, they were just waiting for the parts to come in, and the man asked him if I wanted them to put the tractor back together, and the answer was "NO". So I called two days later and talked to the head guy about this, he said that they were two weeks behind on there work orders, hadn't even looked at the tractor, and hadn't ordered any parts.I questioned what had been said prior, he stated he didnt know what was said and said they were still two weeks out on any repairs. I did tell him that the farm was begining to look like a jungle. I asked about the charges (because I have limited funds), he said there were none at the moment, but he would give me a recommendation to another shop I could take it to if I wanted to get it done faster, I told him thats why I had come there in the first place...he said he would see what he could do, that they might be able to look at it Monday and that he would call me back to let me know if that could be done, I started to say something then I heard a click, he had hung up on me. Several days later, I have not heard back. Now I have go rent equipment while I look for another repair shop to get parts from, which might be in Nampa. The communication was horrible, or did they think I was an incapable woman, dont know. I did however feel rather insulted by the treatment I recieved for just wanting to order parts. I did call them on Saturday and said that i was coming to get the mower, he asked who all i had talked to, then he told me that an evaluation (tear down and estimate) was the same as a repair, it didnt need to be torn down, i would have removed the deck.They also told me that their repairs charges were $71 per hour! Thats $243!,without parts! I did call another company and my parts(mandel/spindle, heat treated bolt and washer) will arrive in 4-6 days. So they dont always treat people the same. I am disappointed because i trusted them, to not get a run around, lesson well learned. read more

I came in with a carborator problem on my weed eater and I asked for an over-hall kit. In addition to giving me advice, the staff took apart my weed eater and put it back together with no charge, just to identify the one of a million carborator kits that could potentially be required. Let me start by saying my lawn mower did get fixed. That being said it was not the most pleasant experience. It was actually painstakingly slow and inefficient. My lawn mower's drive cable broke April 26th. It's under warranty through Sears, who contracts Boise Small Engine to do the repair work for them. I dropped it off on April 26th. I was told it should take about 2 weeks to get it repaired which is understandable being its early spring and I'm sure their busy season. I was supposed to receive a call letting me know when it was ready. 2 1/2 weeks go by and no call. I call them to check on the status of my mower. I'm told (after being disconnected and on hold for 5 minutes) that the part needed to repair my mower was on back order until May 23rd. I know this isn't the fault of the repair shop, however a phone call letting me know this would've been nice so I could make arrangements to get my lawn mowed. I call back on May 27th to check on my mowers status. I'm told it is finished but they need to get Sears to authorize payment for the repair. I was told I would be called back that afternoon to let me know when I would be able to pick it up. Once again no call. I call back Tuesday May 31st and once again check on my mower and finally I'm told I can pick it up. The mower seems to be working fine now which I'm appreciative of but this company really needs to work on their communication. It would have saved me a lot of frustration by simply making a phone call or two. read more

I brought my mower in to be serviced because it had stopped working. When I picked it back up and brought it home I found a large oil leak that had never been there when I brought it in.They told me they never worked on the area that the oil was coming from and that I would have to pay for the service. I explained the mower never leaked oil; let alone have a huge leak before I brought it in to them to work on it. I suggested we meet in the middle on price that way both sides win and yet both sides give something, they said they would only knock off the parts (a gasket was what they replaced 5.00) but I would still have to pay for the labor. I felt they missed the chance to value the customer, in addition the young girl at the front desk was rude and had an attitude of entitlement which made the whole experience much worse. read more

I had to mow my lawn so I called and asked if I could borrow a mower since they had mine for over 3 weeks, and of course they said no so I had to rent one. The female who answers the phone is extremely rude. This business only got the second star because the front end expertly found the the part I needed for a Honda mower. I was advised 5-10 days to wait even though the warehouse is in SLC. I asked them to ship it (throttle spring) upon reception to save driving from Star for a $2.44 part and was promised they would. Three weeks later, nothing in my mailbox, so I called. "Yes, we have it." I go to pickup (the trip I tried to avoid from Star) that day and find out it has been sitting there a week. Blame for not even a courtesy call was placed on a new person. Owner gone on vacation into the following week and no member of management on duty. Maybe this experience explains another review here about waiting five weeks for a repair. Part comes in and thrown in a bin and forgotten. No inventory management whatsoever. Maybe they have inventory management software, and if so certainly don't use it. I feel sorry for unsuspecting commercial customers for they will go broke. Or maybe the commercial landscapers have methods to keep their customers' grass from growing three weeks while waiting for parts. I'm not so skilled. read more

Save your money! I took my mower in one month and one day as of today and every time I called nobody could tell me what was going on with it nor would they tell me when they were going to start working on it. I called the second week after I was told it would take a week to two weeks to get done and I was told that they haven't even looked at it yet. So I gave them one more week I called back and they said the mechanic was not working on Saturday so maybe on Monday he will have a chance to take a look at it. I gave up four more days and then I called back and the mechanic told me what was wrong with my lawn mower. Asked if it was cool to fix it I said yes then I asked what the price was going to be to fix it and it turned out to be $15 more expensive. Customer service there is terrible at best and I would never recommend anybody going there ever due to lack of communication with the customer which is very important and nobody not telling me what was going on the whole experience read more
