After calling around to find a shop to fix a lawn mower that had been used and abused, Chris was the only one of three that called me back. He said he could get to it in a couple of days. I took it down there, Chris was very personable, did a great job at communicating what he would do and was clear on the price. After spending most of a day on it and doing even more than he originally mentioned, the price stayed the same. He showed me all the old junky parts and sparkplugs and showed me all the stuff he did with it. It looked as good as new. He even fired it up, starting on the first pull. I just wanted to give a shout out to Chris and Gem State Small Engine Repair. I have taken an older commercial mower to him over the last 5-6 years and I couldn't be happier with his service, friendliness and expertise. He did the usual mower maintenance and then addressed several issues that come with having a 20+ year mower in order for it to last another 15-20 years. Parts are not always available for this model and he addressed the issues with ingenuity that comes from many years of experience. I cringe when I have to go to these small engine repair places cause it's usually a cranky old dude who shames me for not taking care of my mower like he would have. Not this guy. He was very nice and friendly. He explained my problem and what I could do to avoid it in the future, without being condescending. He even noticed my 2 problems before I could fully explain them. He had both problems fixed in about 5 mins and I was able to leave with my mower back in business. And it was so inexpensive I felt bad after leaving thinking I should have gave him more money. I needed to get my lawn mower ready for the summer season - blade sharpened - oil changed - cleaned up, etc. I called another place and they told me that it would take four weeks. When I called Chris at Gen State he said to bring it in and I would have it back in two days. Chris at Gem State diagnosed the problem and explained his services. Tune up, which included changing spark plug, new engine oil, and sharpening the blade. Mower was ready the following weekend.
