A welcome addition to the area, the owners have opened up a small bake shop where they make and sell small batch sourdough breads, treats and pizza dough. In addition, you can purchase hand made and dyed linens that the owner makes. They've got sheep and produce their own fibres so it's a really great spot that's clearly going to grow. You may have seen them at the Clarence market as their shop hours are currently incredibly limited. When I say they sell out fast, I'm talking 15 mins fast! Hours are 11-5 twice a week but you're often out of luck if you arrive by noon so get there BEFORE opening if you want some amazing wood-fired bread!

Since I love cupcakes and had some time to kill, I decided to walk in. As I opened the door, I walked into a delicious, sweet smell of cupcakes. I reached the counter and saw the different cupcakes. After staring for a good 10 minutes, I decided on the strawberry daiquiri. The cake was soft with bits of strawberries. The frosting wasn't too sweet and went perfect with the cake. It was probably one of the best cupcakes I ever had. I was a bit disappointed that I had to limit myself to one cupcake (I've been eating since the cruise started). They did have a mini cupcake sampler set that had a lot of their flavors. It also looks like they do cakes too. It was a very cute shop with fun and adorable decoration. It's a French bakery on Grand Manan island and is very popular with both locals and tourists alike. As soon as the ferry docked we drove straight over. Got there on a Tuesday morning a bit after 11 and the line was already five people deep. The smell as you walk in...heavenly!! They sell an assortment of freshly baked bread and pastries. By the time I arrived the regular croissants were already sold out. There was still quite a lot of selection though. I went a bit crazy and got a bunch of stuff. Hey.. I'm on vacation!! :) We got the Saint John river bread which is their bestseller and it was delicious. The best way I can describe it is it looks like a round sourdough loaf but it's multigrain deliciousness. The outside crust just the right amount of crunch and the inside soft and warm just out of the oven! We went down to the local grocery store and picked up a couple different cheeses to go with the bread. What a great lunch! I also got the following which I had later for snack and dinner: -spinach and feta pastry: so good!! The filling reminded me a bit of spanakopita but the pastry dough was flaky and crunchy. -egg and cream cheese pastry: same type of dough as above but the filling tasted like a western omelette. -chocolate croissant: amazing!! Just like the ones I had in Paris!! The chocolate to dough ratio was just right!! -apple turnover: my husband declared this the best he's ever had! The pastry so flaky and the filling not overly sweet. So we went back an hour before closing and they pretty much had sold out of everything but had some macaroons and ginger cookies left. We got some cookies for the ferry ride back and they also impressed us! Soft and not too sweet and the ginger flavour not overpowering. I'm so glad we found this bakery. It's a legit French bakery and brings me right back to when I travelled in France. This place should be an absolute must for anyone traveling to Grand Manan!

It's brand new and in the space of an old antique shop so I'll give the benefit of the doubt and assume there will be some finessing of details here. First, we stopped in because it's supposed to be a bakery so we were going to get a treat to eat. From the get-go, the giant sand parking lot isn't very appealing especially when people are stirring it up in your face as they pull into the lot or leave. There are also some awkwardly placed picnic benches crammed into the corner of the property so expect to be trampling into the weeds if you're going to sit at one. Also - no umbrellas and again, a bunch of dust while you are eat/sit. Going in, it was quite confusing. We didn't realize this is a sit down restaurant but they also have ice cream and they sell baked goods. We assumed a bakery would have a nice selection of items but there is a weird two-sided shelf with very poorly displayed mediocre looking baked goods. Everything here is wrapped in plastic and it doesn't look overly appealing. There are also a few trays on the very awkward counter but we opted to just pass on the baked goods as nothing really looked worthwhile so we bought a few drinks and decided to leave. Paying is another interesting event here as there's nowhere to even put your purchases and wallet down while you pay, adding to the oddity of the place. We were shocked at such an extensive menu for a brand new place that bills itself as a bakery. Chicken dinner? A little odd. It seems like way too many things are going on at once here for anything to actually be done great. Overall, we did not have a good first impression and we definitely won't be rushing back. If you're craving good, quality baking, drive a few more minutes down the road to Bee's Knees where you'll get the real goods!
