By far the best Indian takeaway ever! I wish my student budget allowed for more Bombay Pantry - much more Bombay Pantry. The early bird special feeds me for two days (top tip for poor students!). The deal, which includes a starter (choice of two small veggie filled balls with dips), a medium size main (chicken/veg) and a choice of either naan or rice. (Top Tip 2 for poor students- cook yo own rice!). I usually go for the New Dehli Housewives choice - heaven. Even better, even though it says the Early Bird is collection only, when we called to order they offered to deliver it. Success! So in conclusion, Bombay Pantry is life. read more

Aaaaggghhh (homer-style), my mouth is drooling at the thought of Bombay Pantry. It's my favourite take-out. I think it's the best Indian restaurant in Dublin. That's because it's as fresh as they come. If you pass by Bombay Pantry at any hour of the morning you can smell the amazing marinades and sauces that they are preparing fresh every day. Yes, it's a little expensive, but pretty standard with most take-aways or deliveries and you don't have to cook. I love the Chicken Karahi, Murg Chutney and the Butter Chicken. They are all so tasty. People might ask you to share a portion of something with them, but don't. You'll be sorry. My favourite accompaniment is their naan bread. It's absolutely gorgeous and fresh out of the oven. Excellent for wiping my plate clean. They have seven shops around Dublin so I hope you're within delivery radius of one of them. Bombay pantry which is next door to Saba to go in Rathmines is amazingly popular on the south side of Dublin. I have to admit I'm not a big fan, having only had one pretty cold chicken Tikka from the place. Its standard Indian fare, Chicken,lamb, beef and seafood with a variety of curries and Biryani's. The also have a pretty good Veggie dishes and the usual Naan breads and Poppadom's. It's probably the first Irish Indian takeaway chain and seems to be doing the business so far with seven branches throughout Dublin. As I said I wasn't hugely impressed with the place and normally stick to the many Indian restaurants in Terenure. I ordered from the Ashtown branch of Bombay Pantry last night 5th Nov 09. Dublin has traditionally been served by a range of poor or average Indian take aways. Bombay Pantry has been good in the past and has developed a good reputation. I have eat from the Fairview branch and the Rathmines branch in the past and have enjoyed the experience. This was the second time I used the Ashtown branch. Our first experience was poor but we put this down to a one-off and did not complain. However last nights awful meal compelled me to write this review to warn any potential customers and urge them not to eat from there. The two main dishes we order were Beef Karahi (with tomatoes, green peppers, red onions, ginger,garlic and fresh green chillies) and Lamb Bhuna (with yoghurt and spices, braised with diced potatoes ginger juliennes, green chillies and garlic). As the menu states these should be be fundamentally different dishes. But the base sauce that provided was exactly same and both were so over-spiced that neither my wife and I could not eat them. I am part Indian and we have been to India several times. I do expect Irish Indian take-aways to be reflective of Indian food however I do expect a little respect to be shown to Irish customers who deserve and expect Indian food. However this food would not pass the test of any Indian, Pakistani or Bangladeshi. The other starters and nan bread tasted like it had been cooked several days before, and just reheated, which in turn had over cooked the product. Finally we found two human hairs in one of the dishes. This was the final straw I called the Branch and complained. I got several apologies but no indication that the Bombay Pantry valued me as a regular customer and wanted to make amends. Frankly I do not believe BP when they say 'We are dedicated to producing the best Indian food for our customers. Using the freshest ingredients, highly experienced native chefs and state of the art kitchens, our promise is 100% natural fresh food cooked to order. It is not, well cooked, authentic or of any reasonable quality. All in all I am so disappointed that I spent over 40 Euros on what I consider rubbish. read more

Indian food is a particular soft spot of mine, partially because of the variety of traditional vegetarian specialties on offer in Indian resturants and partially because I *love* the use of spices in cooking. I've had both very good and very bad Indian food in Dublin but these guys are consistently wonderful! I've sampled most of the vegetarian mains and sides over the past few years. My personal favourite being the Anjuna Tarkari Curry, a delicately spiced tomato based dish using fresh curry leaves, delish! I also love their paneer dishes and their Aloo Gobi. Starters are also good, but a little samey and I rarely indulge as the mains are enough for a hearty meal. What sets Bombay Pantry apart are its use of fresh seasonal vegetables which they very thankfully don't overcook (like so many other places do!), its paneer, which if it isn't homemade, still tastes really fresh and their use of spice, these guys know what they're doing!! Their naan is also great - soft, flavoursome; the garlic one is to die for! I think I know what I'll be ordering in tonight! read more

Considering I'd never tasted Indian cooking before moving to Ireland, I'd say my palette has improved quite fast. And after a few years toying with a few curry houses and better take aways, I've reached a taste zenith with Bombay Pantry. Pardon the grandiose stylings, but the food here really is that good. It's all in the spices. Bombay's busy chefs have a free hand with the flavours here and create rich tastes based in those three or four main sauce starters every Indian restaurant uses. Considering any cheap and cheerful chippy will do a box of curry for less than €5, €10.95 for Tandoori Prawns Masala can seem rather steep... And the meat used is mostly tough, dry prepack stuff bought from catering companies. But all is forgiven with those deeply delicious sides -buttery basmati, garlic naan, creamy and nutty Batata Vada... pricey but the perfect way to spend a tasty night in. read more

Seriously good food...and my treat for a Sunday. Take away only i'm afraid... how popular would they be if they had seating! I was getting a little afraid there, as the lumps of meat seem to be disappearing from the dishes, but even that wouldn't put me off coming back here. If your in a hurry often they have some favorite dishes made up ready, so don't be afraid to ask, otherwise you can be waiting there for up to 20minutes.. still worth it though. They also have loyalty card now for when you spend 10 euro or more, you get a little stamp and little incentives like a free starter with your third stamp, free Nan with your fifth (that's a bread, not a relation some on is trying to get rid of ) and a free main with your tenth A great takeaway propping up one corner of Rathmines. read more

I went to Bombay Pantry on the recommendation of my helpful hairdresser, who has been to India and recommends the restaurant as the most authentic of Indian restaurants in Ireland. She also gave as an addendum that Bombay Pantry was better than the Indian food in London. Having not been to India yet myself, London is the yardstick by which I measure Indian food, and I said to myself that if the food in Bombay Pantry is better than the Indian food in London, well, I'll have to taste it to believe it. And the food in Bombay Pantry is good, very good. The curries all have a rich brown-base, which means basically that they have more tomatoes than the normal curries that you get over here, and are thus more authentic, according to the lady who cuts my hair and has also been to India. Now I wouldn't know anything about authenticity, but I know a good Roganjosh when I eat one and Bombay Pantry's is a very respectable Roganjosh. Bombay Pantry are very reasonable, too: all of the main courses are around a tenner, and you can a set menu for two people for €25. So all in all, really good Indian. read more

I read a lot of praise about Bombay Pantry and wanted to try it out for a long time - finally I did. I had yet to find vegetable Samosas I like in Ireland - which are not completely overpriced as well. Most are either way to small for my taste or not filled with my favourite fillings. The ones depicted on the website, so I decided to give them a try together with the other starters (Batata Vada and Onion Bhaji). For main courses we had Peshawar chicken and Tarkari Curry. After about 35-40 minutes the food arrived, well in time. Our mouths were watering and the Samosa looked exactly the way I wanted it - from the outside, but also from the inside. However all the starters were already nearly cold, and they were so salty, I could just still eat them. I was definitely disappointed by the starters and had especially high expectations here. This could have been so good but wasn't and I don't know if the kitchen just had a bad batch or if this is how it is supposed to taste here. I'm not inclined to order them again although they looked so tasty. All was good again when we dipped into the main courses. These were really really well made and tasty. A bit too "regular" dishes for my taste, but then again we couldn't decide for different options (next time I'd like to try the Karahi Paneer I think to have a drier curry option). All in all, it was not a bad meal but the starters were disappointing because of the salt crust. If it wasn't a takeaway I could have complained or even sent it back, but now I'm left not knowing if this is what I have to expect or if it belongs that way. Pricing is definitely higher than most takeaways, and with my favourite Madina I can get a nice sit-down meal for a similar or even lower price. For the "best Indian takeaway" I'd have expected perfection, and I'm not sure if I'll give them another chance or just stick to what I know. read more

I love indian food, I really do, like if I don't have indian food at least once a week I would probably miss it. So usually, I go to the indian restaurant right next to my place, but I was in Rathmines that day and since I've heard many good things about this place I decided to give it a try. We took a menu for two, as a starter we had one Batata Vada and one Subz Bhajia, both were good but not extraordinary, so I did not finished mine. After that, we had a Chicken saag, a chicken butter masala, and a tarka dahl. The portions were huge and we actually did only finish one of these plates and kept the other for the day after. The chicken butter masala was good but lacked a little be of taste. The dahl was good, but my favorite was the chicken saag. The only problem is that they were, in my sens, definitely an overload of "dhania" in all of these. I don't mind a little bit of it, but they were way too much in it here. Because of this I couldn't finish any of my dishes, it really made me feel sick at some point. So if I go back there, and I which I would like to, I would probably ask it to be made without this spice if possible. Although, the overall was good, and I like the fact that they cook gluten free and take time to make their food, that's a great thing. read more

Why does Rathmines seem to have brilliant options for all sorts of takeaway? Indian Pantry is so much better than the korma merchants I've been punishing myself with in Dublin. The menu is really good, vegetarians especially get a great selection. I had bhajii and beef achari (beef in lime and mustard oil). The bhajii came with a coriander sauce, and some mint yoghurt. Both were definitely needed considering how spicy the food was. The service was pretty quick, and the whole thing came to €12. This really isn't a place to grab a curry after pub-closing, it's so much better than that! Bombay Pantry also sell a selection of ready meals, and some sauces and chutney. I'd be really surprised if they were anywhere near as good as what they'll cook for you. read more

We frequent this joint once every couple of weeks. Have become a bit partial to their Chicken Karahi. Although, as much as I like hot food, the upper level hot setting on this one is enough to blow the bomb bay doors about 24hrs after!! Best takeaway in the city...end of discussion. I've never been disappointed with a meal from Bombay Pantry, all the dishes I've tried have been excellent, the service is efficient and friendly, and the prices are pretty good for what you get. We normally go for the "dinner for two" value menu (around twenty euro for two curries, a naan bread, rice, and a couple of little starter options) - which is a mountain of food. The brilliantly named "New Delhi Housewive's Choice" is a personal favourite of ours, lovely flavours, not at all greasy, and very satisfying. Delivery charge is 3 quid, and the food has always arrived within the hour - well worth a try if you're in the mood for a proper Indian binge. read more

My favourite takeaway in Dublin. When I lived in Rathgar my treat at the weekend was to head down to The Bombay pantry and get myself some Saag Paneer Kumbi. It's a joy even waiting inside the small waiting area whilst watching the hustle and bustle in the kitchen as your food is prepared. The smells are just divine and help whet the appetite. They also have some frozen and freshly made chilled foods in the fridge which are handy if you are in a hurry. A must visit if staying/living around Dublin 6. read more

It may have been a bad day in theBombay Pantry take away but last Friday we ordered some food for collection and I wasn't happy at all. We ordered the meal for two with a Chicken Curry and a Karahi. The service was fast but the two main weren't very good. I had Bombay Pantry before and I thought was nice but this time the balance of spices was really wrong, too strong and not pleasant at all. I never ate a curry tasting just like mustard seeds and I didn't enjoy it at all. The other main had the same base as the curry and wasn't great but was slighly better. I was really looking forward to my Friday night curry treat and I couldn't eat it! (who knows me knows that is really really really unusual and weird for me to do that). So i did something that I never did before, I called the place and I complained. The manager was kind but it took her a while to understand my complain, it wasn't a fly in the curry was the taste that was wrong. So I asked her "Did you taste it, please just taste it." So she thought a bit and she offered a refund for my dish for my next order. It was raing and horrible out no way I could go out again! I don't honestly know If I ever go back the place is not exacly cheap and I don't want other Friday night surprises! read more

This place is excellent-- really remarkable for take out especially. I've tried Goan Firehouse Beef, Saag Paneer, Butter Chicken, Chicken Karahi, two other vegetarian dishes (Kovali?), a few of the naans, all the deep fried starters........ And so on. I've really enjoyed everything, and I'm quite particular about Indian food. In addition, the 'hot,' designation here is genuinely HOT. Which is a nice change of pace. As well, the chutneys and sauces are delicious, flavourful and colourful and just as they should be. I enjoyed my takeout about 100x more than Bang Cafe, so take that as you will. read more

NO! this is not Indian good. At least its not good and fresh Indian food. I am Indian, make Indian at home, and have grown up eating good food so am more than qualified to write this review. I ordered their early bird special for one with Kofta curry, batata vada, naan and rice. The kofta curry was clearly stale- the Kofta had been deep fried days ago, then frozen and then plonked into the very bad tasting curry which had raw "rai" seeds in them- no cumin! It was also very sweet and had basically no flavor. The batata vada did not taste like a batata vada and the rice was smelling weird. I am visiting Dublin for work this week from San Francisco Bay Area and made the mistake to order from here. read more

This was the third time I ordered food from here and I was terribly disappointed again. It kinda shocks me to read people writing very good reviews of this place. This time I gottwo starters (the potato wada and subz bhajia) a side salad and prawn masala. The Subz bhajia was ok. But the potato wada was absolutely terrible. I ordered it cause its my favorite street food ever and it is impossible to find it well made anywhere in Ireland.The prawn masala was generic (clearly the spices were not fresh). There were extremely small 5 pieces of prawn in the entire curry. Preciously I have ordered the other starters, some lamb and chicken dishes and they were also all too generic and had not strong flavors that are characteristic of Indian curries. Good Indian food is very hard to come by and I am disappointed that Bombay pantry is not an exception. read more

Hello I Just ordered from here and I'm sad to say that dispite the great service on the phone and from the driver our food was honestly one of the worst attempts at an Indian I've ever had. There was far to much tomatoe sauce used in every dish, even the chicken tikka masala tasted like tomatoes soup. Ordered food from bombay pantry online on Sunday at 6.22 pm, the online system said that it would be delivered at 7.30. The food eventually arrived at 8.00 pm COLD. My boyfriend rang to complain (calmly and politely) and the manager argued that because we ordered online the chief couldnt possibly guarantee that the food would be warm? He then hung up on him! I decided to give the Glenagery branch a try last night, to say I was disappointed is an under statement , we ordered 2 chicken dishes, bread and 1 rice, the cost was 25euro, the food was bland and almost cold, there was about 4 or 5 pieces of chicken in the container and the rest was just sauce, and not very nice sauce, the bread was burnt on one side and flavorless ( garlic naan) I will say the guy who served me was very friendly and polite, however with the high cost I would have expected better quality food, overall even with the friendly staff I will not be ordering from here again, ill stick with 'lets eat in' much better food and value for money read more

Indian food tends to be a disappointment in Dublin in my opinion but this place is the nearest that you will get to the real deal. They have a great selection of curries at reaonable prices. There are a lack of good priced meal deals though so you end up paying quite a bit to be filled up. I've ordered deliveries from here and they usually will be about 45 mins so not too bad i guess. They say they use all natural ingredients and you can tell as the taste is quite authentic. Just ordered off this crowd. I'll be back. Thought the 50 mins delivery time was a bit much, but then I suppose it's not a pizza. He came before that anyway. Anyway, there was LOADS in the lamb bhuna. Loads of meat and a good sized portion of rice. The two samosas were very sizeable and delicious too.
