Well worth the visit both to Silk Road and the market Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Because Silk Road doesn't seem to specialize in asian cuisine, an alternative that carries mostly Indian spices may be found at Bombay Spices on 36th near T&T Marlborough, or at Basha Foods off Barlow Trail.

So lo and behold, when I stumbled across an outlet at the Calgary Farmers Market I was very happy...I could get a preview of what their main store was like. They have a tiny little booth at the market with cool spice blends. There were some "popular" flavour profiles, along with some herbs and spice combos and individual spcies that were a little out of the ordinary. They also offered a few different gift sets that were "themed: (BBQ etc). I picked up one of those and two individual spice bottles to try too, including a Cajun mix that added a tasty flavour to the steak and shrimps we ate that night. My only issue with this booth are that the spice description signs are small and very hard to read, especially on the lover shelves. This was too bad because the ones I could read were very interesting - telling me what the spices would work well with or in the case of spices like Mace, what they are similar too. In appreciate space is at a premium but I felt like I was missing out by not being able to read them. I suspect that this kiosk is geared more towards people who know their products well and just want to grab herbs and spices and go rather than take the time to browse and learn. Prices were good and the quality is there so I'd return for sure.

(I happen to making nuts and bolts that require bugles) Since the American company that make Bugles stopped making them in Canada it's nearly impossible to find. Until today! I was in the import store stocking up on Christmas treats I happen to see Bugles made by Lays!! Very expensive for a little bad, but I don't care I need them for my Nuts & Bolts!! I bought two bags. The quant store was staring to get busy was time to go. Checking out was easy, friendly lady behind the counter scanned and packed everything into a box. But now that in Calgary we're on track to potentially have 1,000 new cases A DAY by the end of the week? Masks are now optional at Bulk Barn, apparently. I know, because I just saw an able young woman get served without one, and my questions to the greeter/cashier were met with a claim she was asked to wear a mask, but she "said she didn't need to wear one". So they just let her stroll right in unmasked. Since Bulk Barn is not even going to attempt to refuse service or accommodate maskless customers in some other way, they will no longer get my business. I hope her patronage was worth losing mine and any of my elderly neighbours who decide they need to avoid the health risk.

Came specifically looking for a brand of dried Mayacoba beans (Peruano if you prefer) for a dish I make for the family. Viola! Or, ole! There it was, even the brand I buy locally back home where these stores are literally everywhere. Had a nice long chat with a young guy at the checkout counter about all things Mayacoba and the street taco scene where I'm from. I see from another review they have Colombian coffee on the premises by the cup. Adding that to my list. I love finding a clean, well-run store like this when I'm travelling. Keeps me connected to all things good eating. Highly recommended.
