My father moved into this facility just over a year ago. At that time the facility, people and food was amazing. If he had an issue they were quick to fix the problem. The staff was friendly and very approachable. Fast forward to today and it is a different matter. His room was not cleaned for over three weeks, the hallways have not been vacuumed, and dirty dishes have been left sitting on furniture in the hallways. When he goes to eat he is told that they are out of stuff all the time. No tea to drink, no bananas to eat and if he should ask for seconds he is told that if they give it to him they will not have enough to feed the people in memory care. For the amount of money he is paying to stay here this is completely unacceptable! We have been told that it is all due to staff being let go and that they are never out of food or drinks. Where is management? If they don't have the people to clean then why are they not helping? Why are they not in the dinning room talking to the residents and seeing what they are getting to eat or what is out? We will be moving my dad out of this facility just as soon as we can. read more

My dad is in this care facility..we have had many many issues ...last week when i was there the lady in charge of the memory care comes into my dad's room does anyone want a covid or flu shot ?? I was so upset his dr gives him these and I do not want him getting another one or over dosing he has dementia do you think hes going to know??? I was disgusted !!! They have his medical charts and its well documented the covid shot is not good for dementia patients i have alot of things to say about this very irresponsible and should be illegal !! They also do very little and charge and keep trying to charge more .my dad is still highly functional although the activities they have here to help him are very poor an and the staff has changed 3 times in a year its very mismanaged...research this is no life for your loved one ...I know many judicators that have moved residents out because of poor care . .if I told you all ive seen you'd be very weary! read more

I highly recommend Bonaventure as a high quality and caring living environment. When I needed to find an Assisted Living facility for my Mom, I toured several and Bonaventure went to the top of the list for the positive energy and environment they provided. There is a strong sense of community in both the assisted living and memory care areas. The facility did an excellent job communicating with me and the staff consistently earned my respect and gratitude for the way they communicated with my Mom (and me). If we could give a negative rating we would. My mother is law is in assisted living and she is diabetic and has a heart issue. She has a difficult time with moving much without getting exhausted so she gets oxygen. She is on morphine to help manage her pain as well as her breathing as well as insulin for her diabetes. Over the last 2 days my sister in law has had to stay in MIL's room to make sure she gets the care she needs. No one has checked on her in a timely manner (by 9am and throughout the day) to see if she needs help or anything else without my SIL going and asking for it. This AM she did not get her meds, (insulin being one of the meds), or breakfast until SIL went and got someone to do something for her. We are constantly having to follow up on her getting regular coke instead of diet because of her diabetes as well as her being allowed to eat dessert first before her meal, and then she doesn't eat her meal. The list is long and the excuses are longer from everyone in charge. The good people there either quit or get fired so they are eternally short staffed. We have paid over $7500 a month and with her new "Care" plan we are scheduled to pay over $10,000 a month for her care, which she is not getting. We will be notifying the state of Oregon Department of Human Services for neglect and we are sure we are not the only people in this facility with the same issue. Sadly, my MIL is in a situation that she can't be moved but be forewarned, if you love your family member, steer clear of this place and don't get blinded by the glitz and look of the place. read more

I took time to research different homes for my father to move to. I looked at so many different ones in the Portland/Metro area because I was not familiar with these facilities, what they had to offer, and how they worked. Bonaventure was one of the first ones I visited and others after that really had no comparison. I went with an open mind and a list of questions that I used for all of them. Gary and Jen were super helpful and answered all questions, offering information, and providing friendly and compassionate service. They went above and beyond what I would expect them to do. Bonaventure offered the chance for my father to stay and try the place out and see if it would be a good fit for him. The stay was comfortable and all the employees are extremely friendly. The residents that live there are so friendly and kind, always saying hi when I walk down the hall. Other facilities I visited did not have that same vibe and some were not comparable at all. He has now lived there about 6 months and I am happy with the decision for him to live here. He enjoys the environment, his neighbors, and the employees. My sister was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer with only weeks to live and I was frantically looking for the best possible place for her to receive hospice care. My sister had been moved to a residential care facility, but after just a few hours she requested to be moved somewhere else -she wasn't happy there. My sister's Care Coordinator, Minnie Webb who was referred to me by Legacy Hospital, jumped into action and called Jen Ruljancich, Bonaventure's Executive Director on a Saturday morning to see if my sister could be moved to their facility. Jen and Minnie brought me on to a 3-way call and we reviewed my sister's extensive and complex care needs. It's important to note that I live in California and I was very ill with a severe case of what most likely was RSV or Covid, so Minnie was my boots on the ground, working in lockstep with me to coordinate my sister's care. On the call with Jen and Minnie (and the hospice nurse), we talked through my sister's care needs and what steps needed to be taken to move her to the Bonaventure. I was immediately comforted as Jen reassured me she and her staff at the Bonaventure had the skill and resources to provide the around the clock complex level of care my sister needed. Jen and the hospice nurse talked through my sister's care needs so I could hear how the Bonaventure would meet them. My sister was moved to the Bonaventure the next morning on Sunday, and they had a suite decorated with furniture and a hospital bed ready to receive her. Minnie took care of all the important details like bedding, jammies, etc. Wonderful and caring angels were in our midst and they handled everything, for which I am eternally grateful. I cannot express how grateful I am to Jen and her staff for making my sister's end of life so comfortable, calm, loving, and lovely. During the last days of my sister's life she told me several times how grateful she was to be cared for by the Bonaventure staff, and how she felt safe and cared about by her caregivers. My experience with Jen and all of her staff was amazing. I felt very supported and cared about because Jen and her staff understood all I wanted was for my sister to have the very best of care at the end of her life. My Grandparents have lived at Bonaventure for many years now. The staff have always been great. Recently Grandma's health declined rapidly and she passed away. During this time the staff here really showed their true colors! My Grandmother was brought to the ER and was admitted to an ICU room on the 5th floor. She stayed for 4 days until she was discharged to Hospice care at her home, Bonaventure. We are so thankful for all the care and support we received from Bonaventure and the staff leading up to, and especially during this difficult time. All of the team members were so thoughtful, caring and empathetic to my Grandma's needs and to our family. We were so blessed to have such an amazing staff and nursing team there to provide all the necessary daily and nightly care. There are some truly special people working at this facility. We are so grateful to those that provide such good care and compassion to our family, and to others. We cannot thank them enough for all that they do. read more

Staff are untrained and not background checked - Multiple instances of staff members stealing from patrons. Food is institutional and low quality at best. Group outings that are promised never occur without explanation. The only thing they seem to do right is bill every month. Don't send your loved ones here! read more

When my husband was hospitalized after 5 days in memory care, the directors refused to assist me in removing items from his room.....no boxes, no to use of a cart, no to request for a person to help me. My mom lived at Bonaventure of Gresham for 2 1/2 years in the Independent Living section. All places have pros & cons but this experience turned out to be disappointing. It did not live up to our expectations. Several months ago she left Bonaventure and moved into a Residential Care Facility located close by. Bonaventure Pros: The facility is new & tastefully decorated. The grounds and parking lot are well lit and cared for. The security features are well managed. My mother loved her small apartment. She loved the other residents. They were friendly and caring. They serve A LOT of desserts & sweet things. They do a great job creating activities and entertainment for the residents. They have a great supply of books located throughout the building. The laundry rooms are always clean. The washer/dryers were always in operating order and available. The garbage and recycling located in the laundry rooms were emptied daily. The building always smelled clean. It was a quiet place to live. The few staff members that have been there for a while are loved by the residents (Ana, Rosa, Thi). The on-site Emergency Medical person was efficient, knowledgeable and great to deal with. Bonaventure Cons: Be advised, this is a corporate managed business with finances at the forefront of EVERY decision. Get all price/expense quotes in writing. I don't care how small the price/item may be. My experience has been if it's not in writing the price will be different when you get the bill. This year I was advised to expect my mom's rent to increase 6% every year. The high turnover in staff is shocking. My experiences included kitchen staff & servers, housekeeping, receptionist, maintenance, activity director, marketing and executive directors. I've seen Marketing people in the dining room pouring water, acting as servers by taking orders & serving meals outside of regular meal hours and vacuuming the front entrance & lobby. I've also seen an Executive Director at the front desk answering phones during day time business hours. If you're needing information about something, no one ever seems to know the answer. I'm not sure if that's because of the high turnover or poor training. You're often told they have to check with someone or Corporate to get the answer and they'll get back to you. Rarely did I receive a return call. Be advised, Housekeeping is not allowed to move ANYTHING in order to vacuum. I know of residents who vacuum underneath their desk (where their chair slides in/out) and/or a dining table while the housekeeper watches. Don't get rid of your vacuum or broom when you move in. Be advised, Housekeeping is not allowed to move ANYTHING in order to dust. If there is one item on a table or top of your frig, due to liability, they are not allowed to dust it. Bring along something to dust with when you move in if that's important to you. There were multiple times when my mom didn't receive housekeeping services, of any kind, for 2-6 weeks. No housekeeping, linen change/laundry or emptying of garbages. This was due to Housekeeping being understaffed due to illness or termination of employment. Her rent was not adjusted during this time even though her services were greatly reduced. Common areas i.e. curving staircase, hallways & front entrance are often in need of vacuuming/sweeping. The food is horrendous. I would consider it low quality, Institutional food. Even what they consider "fresh" clearly comes out of a package. The Yogurt machine in the Cafe is frequently out of service. The pastry in the Cafe is often stale and the fruit is overripe or old. My mom had several friends who lived in the Assisted Living side and they often complained about the cost and services they were supposed to receive and didn't. Because of their complaints we hired Visiting Angels to come in 5 days a week, 2 hours a day, to help care for her. We were thrilled with the Gresham Visiting Angels' care, cost & professionalism. They were cheaper than Bonaventure, consistent with their timeliness & management of their employees, and she received one on one care for 2 full hours a day. They were also easier to deal with; very professional & their follow-through was impressive. There were multiple influenza outbreaks. They always seemed to originate from the Memory Care section. If you want to have a conversation with the Executive or Financial staff I suggest you try to do it in person. They do not have email, voicemail and all of their verbal messages are screened. My experience has been that unless your message is marketing related you won't get a response to your inquiry about 90% of the time. I would encourage anyone considering this facility to read current & past Resident Committee Meeting Minutes. Current minutes are posted outside of the Activity Room. What you may want to look for are how many present & past items have been resolved to the Residents' satisfaction. read more

Please do not send your loved ones here. Bonaventure only cares about making money. They will not hire staff to give your loved ones the care and attention they need. Food is institutional and cold. Management is rude and not trained. Facility is dirty. There are no activities as promised. Bingo and trivia daily is the most you will get. There is nothing good about this facility. Our loved ones deserve more. Look at the Oregon State Website for violations and you will find many. The Gresham facility should be closed. read more

This is NOT assisted living. My father recently lived at Bonaventure for a brief time. He was to receive help showering twice a week, be shaved weekly, have his clothes laid out for him. None of the things we paid for happened. He smelled, his clothes were filthy from wearing them multiple days in a row (most probably sleeping in them also), and would start a full beard regularily. They advertised all kinds of daily events that no one attended. All bells and whistles. Don't put someone you love here. read more

The list of issues goes from constent staff turn over, horrible tasting food, events that put all the residents togeher in a time we need distancing, to making it a nightmare when we planned to move to actually billing us 2 months after we left... the list goes on and on senior management only cares about the bottom line and the current GM who was the original GM makes promises he cant and does not intend to keep... the problem for them is we saw it all from independant to moving to assisted substandard food and care and the lowest wages imaginable for staff hence the constant turn over.. truly any place in Gresham is better than this one... 12 5 2020 read more

My aunt moved in a year ago when it first opened. She has been enjoying all of her new friends and the facility. She is much more involved with the activities than the last place she was in. This place is a horrible place for your loved ones. They charge way to much for the little bit of services they give. The residents only get one choice for dinner per night and there's no vegetarian option. When they move in they rarely have everything that was promised and the units are almost always never ready on time. They don't drug test employees or make sure they have their food handlers cards before serving residents. I staff member was sick and told them so and they still made her serve them drinks even after she provided a doctors note and has discharge paperwork. Residents are always complaining that nothing is run correctly because it's not. The executive director is rude and condescending. All she cares about is numbers of residents she can scam out of their money. She's extremely rude to her employees as well. She talks about other people in the office and it's just not a fun or friendly environment to work in. They have a turn over rate that's pretty high for these reasons plus many more. they don't care about their employees or residents. read more

This is a beautiful place. Grand sweeping staircase...a grand piano...two beautiful dining rooms. But that is where it ends. If you need assisted living for a family member I would strongly urge you to look elsewhere. My father loved here for 6 months. In that time, I witnessed employee turnover like never before. The Execurive and Assistant Director changed hands, the events coordinator changed, and the Resident Care Coordinator for Assisted Living changed twice ..in 6 months! I will bet it has changed again since my dad left. There was no follow through on my dad's care plan. We paid for him to have assistance with dressing and showering but I would visit him and he would be filthy from head to toe. He would wear the same clothes for days! This place was so unorganized and unaware of their resident's needs. If it weren't for the lovely ladies at the front desk...my dad might not have even been safe. Even after we notified Bonaventure that my dad would be moving shortly, the called more than once wanting to review and update his care plan. The RCC had no working knowledge of my dad or that he was moving. Seriously...do no be fooled by their smoke and mirrors. This place is horrible for assisted living. My wonderful aunts moved into Bonaventure in Gresham last year and now they have been informed their rents (for a memory care room and an independent living apartment) will increase 4%. Community conversations has revealed that residents need to prepare for a 3% to 6% rent increase but has not provided any reasons for the differences between amounts or why so much. My aunt was told that they should plan for a 3% increase when they bought in - but now no one has any written agreements about rent increases. Unless this is cleared up and rent increases are reasonable, consistent and fair, I and others will do our best to help organize and inform these precious, venerable citizens about their rights and options. read more

My mother lived at Bonaventure for 19 months. We wanted to move her and found several better options but a move would have been to hard on her at that point in her life. Instead, we paid thousands of dollars to bring in private care to keep comfortable and safe. Bonaventure has several very good caregivers and med-aids who lovingly cared for mom. There were a few who weren't qualified to care for people, in spite of their certifications. The management of this organizaton is horrible and that's where the issues begin. Don't believe all the things they tell you they'll do. The checks and balances are not in place there. The turnover at the management/director level was constant. They couldn't keep enough staff to run the place efficiently. There was no follow through on any of the requests you made of them. You had to follow up on everything, multiple times. You can read the positiive reviews and assume I'm just one unhappy family member, but do your research. Many of the reviews posted on Google reviews are posted by individuals living on the independent side that don't receive caregiving or they are posted by individuals on the assisted "side" that don't need much care, yet. Talk to family members who moved their loved ones from Bonaventure. Talk with the Elder Care teams from Providence and some of the other hospitals and ask where they'd put their parents. Talk to Hospice organizations and ask where they recommend you put your loved one. This facility is newer and nicely appointed but that doesn't mean a thing when they are not fulfilling their commitments and your loved ones aren't getting the care they deserve. You pay for housekeeping but then they can't keep decent housekeepers on staff. There's no proacve communicaon about what they are doing about it either. From what I understand, there are issues with other Bonaventure facilities (Medford for sure). This indicates it's a Corporate issue - they are only interested in profits. If you choose to put your loved one in this facility, pay attention, stay close and monitor the care. I'm pretty certain you'll be disappointed. read more

We have been given a rent increase, but food and food service have not improved significantly since October when I moved in. They are inconsistent with various things they tell us and then they change what they say later. There are long service wait times, frequently waits for glasses of water and having our orders taken are a half hour to an hour or longer. The salad bar was a major attraction; now they are taking it away at the evening meal, and we have to ask our servers for soup and salad from the kitchen . This effectively takes away our choice as to what goes onto our salads. Rent should not increase until conditions improve. read more

After visiting with a family member and hearing (more than one) story regarding the paid for, yet not received benefits of staying in an assisted living home, I feel compelled to write a review for this facility on behalf of the people that live there, many of them who cannot speak for themselves. First, I notice this facility seems to have a very hard time keeping housekeeping staff. They are overworked and spread very thin. We recently found out that my family has gone weeks without housekeeping services, which they pay for, handsomely in their rent. This additional housekeeping cost is not a small amount. When confronted with the "oversight" management sent someone from maintenance to clean the rooms. You can only imagine how that turned out. It appears as though the staff is friendly (including the maintenance person) and well liked, however they are understaffed. The real problem seems to be in management and their unwillingness to actually provide the staff that can produce the service the residents pay for. I'm placing this review on behalf of my family members that are staying here. When choosing a home that provides services for loved ones unable to care for themselves, it goes without saying you hold the management of these facilities to a much higher standard than you would for a normal housing complex.
