No apologies. We definitely paid for two meals! Anyway, they HAD forgotten it and went off to make a rushed version of the dish which was no where near as delicious and fancy as they made it sound on the menu. I give this place 3/5, as the coffee is fantastic, the omelette was fairly tasty and maybe the waitress was just having a bad day. It has left me with a sour taste in my mouth however, but I most likely would still return for their coffee. Fifty3 has potential to be a great, quirky cafe in the heart of a shopping centre, but I think some of the staff need to remember the basics of customer service! Run by two guys by the name of Steve & Doug, they have attempted to bring a little bit of home to the shores of Adelaide. Both guys were extremely friendly and made you feel welcome in their cafe. They were not short of a story from the old United States either. The wife had the Seattle hotdog which was extremely tasty (I had to sneak a bite), where I had the good ole trusty American Hamburger with a side of fries. My burger was delicious, but the whole meal lacked that little bit of America- it needed to serve a quarter stick of pickle with every American meal served you could get one as an option, however I think that extra little touch would have gone a long way. These guys also serve a bit of Mexican food as well. If we were locals, we would probably drop in again to try some more of the menu, however 700km these days isn't exactly local.

The wait wasn't too lengthy and my burger was pretty tasty. It's a different type of burger than what I'd normally have, because this one was really fresh and quite light. There was plenty of hummus along with pickled cabbage, cucumber, tomato and a bed of rocket. It stands out visually with the colours. The kofta patty was not bad but I felt it was a bit on the thin side, because there was quite alot of turkish bread that formed the buns. And yeah, as a result the whole experience was quite bready for me but thanks to the hummus and the veges the burger wasn't dry. My friend also wanted to try one of their house made tarts as well so I just had a little bit. It was a passionfruit curd one and it was decent, not too sweet and refreshing due to the passionfruit. But at $4.50 for what's essentially a mini-tart it's getting on the pricey side. I would have gone for a baklava if I was craving a sweet pastry. The interior is very clean looking and inviting, on par with alot of the nicer cafes around the city. The prices are solid ($10.50) for the lamb burger and the breakfast ($15.50). The location is one reason I'd come back- no need to drive to the city just for brunch or lunch. There's a few other things I'd like to try as well if I come back. It's next to the Norwood Concert Hall and easy walking distance. Brick and Motar creative had a special event on for and I was lucky enough to attend on of these workshop free events. This place is open 7 days a week from Mon-Sat 8.30-5, Sun 10-4. Independent design stores, creative workspaces, cafe, workshops + events. 49 George St, Norwood South Australia. I attended a ESTY Craft workshop and had to register online to get a placement. I attended a Friday night on the 17.06 from 6pm to 9pm. The theme was stationary, where each person receives free materials, instructions and guidance to make old-school paper stationery such as notepads, books, zines and notebooks, travel books, and it was all about being creative and book binding. This was a great social event, as many of us never bound books/note books by hand, it the guests and staff helped each other to complete out selected activity. I was greeted at the front door, received a name tag and greeted by more friendly and helpful staff. The place was cleaned, well situated and laid out with a workshop area and retail area and coffee/cafe area. We guests and customers and work on their projects while purchasing coffee/wine or nibbles. I made a japanese binding book and a traveller's note book, by selecting different papers, materials, stickers and then had to bind the book together with needle and thread. It was a fantastic experience and will probably do this again. It was fun if you are into arts and craft and social mingling. There are other events coming up, so head to their website as you can sign up for workshops/events to make soaps, stationary items, paper flowers etc or just come along to view the exhibitions and displays.
