He also thought through details that we hadn't thought of, like prewiring the circle so we could have spotlight lighting on the tree at night. Lastly he replaced an ugly old retaining wall (house has light bricks and old retaining wall had dark red bricks) with a lovely new retaining wall next to our garage that matches the front entrance and circle in the driveway. His work is top notch, as is his crew. He was/is so nice and accommodating to our detailed requests and is extremely hard working, reliable and dependable. I just purchased a home in Brooklyn and I needed to have a couple trees removed. I called a few tree removal services. Three of them were disconnected phone numbers and three responded relatively quickly. Ryan was the first and he gave me a what I thought was a good price that I agreed to. He said he'd do it for less if I paid cash (first red flag) while I appreciated it, I asked if I paid full price if he could get it done quickly to which Ryan agreed. We agreed on the following Friday which was only a few days later. Friday came and I hadn't heard from Ryan by 1230 (as promised) so I called him and he said he text me twice and left me a voicemail, but hadn't heard from me. I'm not sure what he was allegedly waiting for since we previously agreed he was coming Friday for sure. (second red flag) The problem that came up as his story evolved was that my voicemail has been full for several years. I don't use it, and I had been texting other people all morning so i know the old story that I didn't get the voicemail or text messages he sent simply isn't true. I checked my phone history while I was on speaker phone with him. None of my texts were from him. (red flag number 3) When I asked him if they were still coming he said they "already knocked off for the day" (at 1230 on a Friday) and they could come next week, I have no idea why he would say he tried to reach me three times when he and I were the only people in the conversation. He had to know I knew he wasnt telling the truth. Last important point is that he said he'd email me a copy of the our quote and proof of his insurance and I never received that either. (Fourth red flag). Yes I checked my spam and trash email boxes. It never came. So Ryan was unable to reach me via phone, text (twice) and email?!? The summary is that Ryan was quick to give me a quote, quick to make promises about the work but slow to show up and perform. It was extremely hot that day so if that was the real reason-just say that. He never mentioned that. Instead he chose to make up a story that I KNEW wasn't true. It was insulting besides being inconvenient. I took the day off of work to be available and look where it got me.

Abandoned by Backwoods Tree Company…read more After spending three days working to trim some walnut trees and to partially remove a large elm in our backyard, Ryan failed to fulfill our contract and abandoned the job. He left us with a large pile of wood, several large limbs and a 30-foot "stump." After a few weeks, with several different plans on when and how he would complete the elm removal and clean up, Ryan ultimately stopped responding to our messages. We made the great mistake of paying Ryan before the job was complete. Don't make our mistake.

I really wanted to give this business a phenomenal review, but after taking time to reflect on my experience, I unfortunately cannot. My 3 star explanation follows: 1st Star - the owner Scott Garrett comes out to give you an estimate. He is personable and does a thorough job. The estimate is also itemized, so you can see exactly what you are being charged for. This felt much more honest than having an arbitrary number handed to you. 2nd Star - we have spent approximately 40K on landscaping with Garrett over the last few years and most of the work has been stellar. In July 2019 we had a major project done to our driveway where it was extended approximately 5.5 feet on both sides with brick pavers. We have a large driveway and the job turned out fantastic. They also offer a lifetime warranty on the brick work for as long as we own our home. They stand by their brick work and that says a lot. 3rd Star - the crews sent were great. They were professional, worked diligently from 8 am - 5 pm, cleaned up every day, and did a wonderful job. No loud music, no littering, no sloppiness etc. Very respectful and hard working. Why I removed 2 Stars: 1st Star Removed - the large driveway project literally started an entire year after it was supposed to. It went from starting in July 2018 to being pushed back until July 2019. Garrett initially ordered different brick pavers from a company other than the one my husband and I signed off on. It was not an issue to get the original / correct pavers, but it pushed the job back. Other factors- not on our part, also kept pushing the job. We were patient and understanding, however it was an inconvenience (trips postponed, multiple parties scheduled around when the job was supposed to be completed but hadn't even begun, etc). 2nd Star Removed - the large driveway project took longer than what they estimated and as a result a smaller job that was part of the bill was completed in a sub par manner. We were supposed to have a "decorative boulder wall" created near one corner of our house, and what we received was not my idea of a boulder wall. We received approximately 10 rocks, sized 12" tall X 12-15" wide, set down around an already cleaned, existing bed, with mulch tossed on top. We were charged $1495 for something that truthfully, I could have done myself in an hours time (I already had the bed weeded, cleaned and prepped). I feel that since the main driveway project went over the time they estimated it would take, the "decorative boulder wall" was disregarded and we were shortchanged on it. It was such an upsetting way to end the working relationship I thought I had cultivated with Garrett. In the end, I feel that being patient and understanding didn't fare well and that being firm and more assertive would have yielded better results.

Because we live in an area with an HOA, Mrs Garrett would not agree to no spraying on my property or tell me when spraying is scheduled. She said that they will spray chemicals because the contract is with HOA. I explained to her that the area in question is not property of HOA, but my property and she became increasingly rude. Ecologically nasty and interpersonally.... I'm still shocked.
