About a year ago, I ordered about 10 pounds of ground beef. The woman behind the counter went…read morebehind the wall where the butcher was, and within two minutes, she came with a clear plastic bag of ground beef. That was way too fast. I grabbed it and paid for it. I never checked the meat. That was my mistake. I went home and started making patties, only to realize the meat was sticking to my hand! Weird! I smelled it, and it had a rottenwouldn't do any smell to it! Gross! I went back the same day and exposed the thing to the butcher. He flatly denied anything wrong with it and told me off. I tried to have my 75.00 dollars back, but he wouldn't do any of that. I walked away, leaving the meat behind and took the loss. That is when my friends who hunted told me that the place had become infamous for doing those shady mixes with God-knows-what. They all walked away from that pigsty.

I've been a happy customer for years but new owners have recently taken over. I purchased 3 pounds…read moreof frozen lean ground beef from them last week. Opened the package yesterday and the meat was covered inside and out with 1/4 inch diameter black spots. Returned it to them and they apologized profusely and gave me a larger package to take home. Opened it and instead of being red, the meat was dark brown but I decided to cook it anyway. The bottom of the frypan now has over a cup of water that they had added to increase the weight and and the cooked meat smelled bad. Another good business destroyed by greed.

After wrapping the meat she goes and using the cash register touching filthy money and doesn't even wash her hands. After serving me she goes on to the next customer without even thinking of hygiene. I tried the place again, thinking it was just her, but no same thing the next time. I will not be shopping there anymore and have told many people about this practice who will not either. Shame on you Karl's meats for not training your staff properly. Have we not learned anything from covid?

As a kid I…read moreremember going to the old Dutch stores and getting things like terrible salted licorice, chocolate sprinkles, Nutella with white chocolate, and Mentos. Karl's Meat has all of that and a bit more. Great selection of deli meat, poultry, beef, and pork with usual daily specials. They shine in the Dutch department which blew me away and they have a lot of great Dutch products all from Holland such as cleaning aids, wooden shoes, flags, shirts, and of course food. For those who collect those blue and white plates and cups there are plenty about. I love the selection of chocolates, candies, croquettes, olyballen, and stropies. I always get a kick shopping here because most of the people who shop there are Dutch and of course they speak it in the store so it's fun listening to their conversations about the other shoppers and even about me when I'm in line (terrible) The kicker is that I understand 100% of what they are saying, so there's no fooling me ha ha

Add to this a really wonderful staff: helpful, knowledgable and it is easy to see why I have been shopping here for at least 20 years now; from before they moved to this site. There is also a large selection of frozen prepared meals - I could appreciate more that wasn't "gluten free" but I know this fad is very profitable. Lots of wonderful deli items balance this out - plus a fine small dairy section. So much more to explore and sample!

My most recent discovery in Langley is Heritage meats. I prefer to buy meat at a specialty shop, rather than a supermarket for freshness and quality. I confirmed their beef is grass fed raised up until the last stage of life and then fed oats, barley and rosemary to fatten them up. Which sounds cruel but at least they are given free range. Heritage meats reminds me of Bosa foods inside. They have son-in-law products in the freezer--artisan meat pies, Bison sausage etc.. The only downside to this shop is it's very pricey however that's that cost of good quality. They also have a little niche of local Fraser valley loose tea blends which look amazing.
