This will choke out the grassland plants. Caragana is allelopathic and stops surrounding plants from growing. Treetime sells unregulated invasive plant species. Some of these include European Mountain Ash, Burning Bush, Norway Maple, Barberry, Russian Olive, Scots Pine, Sea Buckthorn, Black Locust, Amur Maple, and Common Caragana. See the Canadian Coalition for Invasive Plant Regulation for more detail. Non-native plants that choke out native plant habitat are not a climate based solution. Look at Elk Island National Park where Caragana has invaded and replaced much of the native Beaked Hazelnut shrubs in the forest understory. Stop planting invasive plant species now to avoid problems with our remaining ecosystems in the future. Do your homework and think twice about where the plant you are installing comes from and the impact it will have on the surrounding ecosystems over the following decades. Native plant species need our support more now than ever.
