Not only were the sessions unhelpful, the counsellor was condescending. At one point when I briefly mentioned a past event, she leaned forward, shook her head, and said "and you bringing up the past, how does that help?" I was shocked by her response, and I said, "excuse me?", and she repeated the exact same words. We have since found a much better couples counsellor at another clinic. I would not recommend Jericho counselling.

Mary was the worst counselor I met in my life (I met at least 5 other counselors in the past). Note…read morethat she is a registered counselor not psychologist this means most of insurances won't cover the cost of sessions. Mary was inconsiderate and rude and overly confident about subjects she had no clue about. She gets really offended when you question her judgment or logic and becomes really defensive. I believe she needs to really work on some issues of herself before trying to help other people (she needs to get over herself). I went to her for couple therapy because I and my girl friend had some issues in our relationship. I spend 450 dollar for a 100 minute session. If you call her to schedule an appointment the first thing she will talk about is money. She simply does not even show she care in therapy session. In summary, the advice you get from her, at least about relationships is probably not better than the advice you get from your average friend or family member. Her final advice to me and my girl friend: you guys need to explore more and decide whether to see each other or not. Thanks Dr Marry for telling us the obvious :) Last but not least, it's true that she will keep you waiting outside of her office. At the end you just feel disrespected and judged. I am not sure how good she is in other areas. At least for marriage and relationships she is not the person to go to for advice.

She is great at CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) and I found her to be a genuine and competent counsellor. Everybody is different, finding the counsellor could be challenging sometimes as it is almost like a matching service, you and the counsellor have to have good chemistry and see eye to eye on some non negotiable (values). For me, Mary was excellent and I would highly recommend her. It is almost worthwhile to note that my employer's EAP service referred me to her.

Dale has been my therapist on and off for more than 17 years. When I come up on a challenge in my life, I contact him and we work through my thoughts and concerns. When I first saw Dale 17 years ago, I was in an abusive relationship. I had seen many therapists and they had encouraged me to leave my relationship. I knew I was being abused but couldn't leave. My first words to Dale were "I know I'm being abused but don't tell me to leave." He never did. He worked with me and I felt no pressure. I heard my voice. He centered my experiences and over time I became ready to leave. When I exited my relationship, I had not told Dale that I would be doing so. Yet I had booked a session after the fact. I came into therapy sobbing. I was not sad though, I felt immense relief. Throughout the years Dale has supported me in overcoming fears of failure, childhood trauma, and more. When I am at my most fragile he has helped me gain back my strength and feel empowered. Thanks Dale!

I know I wasn't exactly super keen on continuing that relationship. Second, some people may benefit from different approaches and maybe what didn't work in our case would have worked with others. However, I also think that, as in all professions, there are people who are more skilled at it than others. At the prices charged and given the importance of counselling in avoiding breakups, you better find someone that is good at it, not just someone who has the diploma. My gripe is simple. We were both at fault in our relationship. While I was willing to acknowledge some of my wrongs and apologize, my partner would never admit to any wrong doing. Always had a convenient excuse for everything. I believe a better counsellor would have called on it. Just because that type of one-way guilt (not involving adultery) is unlikely. Not openly discussing the underlying issues is simple when one partner's concerns are systematically dismissed by the other. After _lots_ of sessions my partner's core issue eventually surfaced, inadvertently and certainly not because of any insightful counseling. When I told one of my best friends we were splitting, he wanted to refer me to his second counsellor, the one that had saved his marriage. He told me his first counsellor had been less than useful. This is just how I felt. I didn't care by this point, and to be honest I was and am still relieved we broke up. Maybe a better counsellor would have been a bad thing, in a way. But that doesn't change the fact that Mr. Trimble just doesn't seem the type to ask hard questions. More the "tell me about how this makes you feel" type. Btw, we had a different counsellor later who was way better at keeping us both in line.

When my sister was given a few short month to live after her cancer spread, I sought out anticipatory grief counseling and Willow Tree Counseling came up. I have been working with her for months and now that my sister is gone she is helping me work through the incredible grief I'm experiencing. I wanted to post a review in contrast to the previous one because I really feel like out of a handful of counsellors that I've seen that's I've really felt the strongest connection and had the most help from Megan. She doesn't write notes while you are in session, but that has never been an issue for me. She has always remembered our previous sessions and I know she records notes of her sessions after the hour is over. She also provides a feedback form after every session that gives the client an opportunity to provide thoughts on various aspects of her counseling. I feel badly for the other reviewer who had a poor experience but I wanted to come on here and provide a different perspective. Without Megan's guidance and support over the last year my grief journey would have been far harder and more detrimental to my wellbeing. I am beyond grateful to work with her on my problems. She is a gem.
