The WiFi is free and they have seats outside if you're lucky enough to visit when the sun is shining. As with any pub of this kind it can get pretty busy, especially on Friday evenings. However the staff can handle it and even seem to be unusually cheerful for Wetherspoons staff. I'm not sure I'd visit here first of the pubs available in Falkirk, but it's not bad, and it's always nice to know that there's a place available with cheap beer and plenty of seats.

One of them (I don't know his name) was a bit of a local historian and he told us about the history of the building and showed me some of the old pictures on the wall. It was named after the famous Carron Ironworks here, established in 1759, which became Scotland's largest industrial complex and dominated the area for 200 years. Perhaps a little dark inside or maybe it just seemed that way because we called in for a meal on a bright sunny day. Despite the history and pictures I felt this pub lacked some of the character and more attractive surroundings of some of the others we've come to know.

Perhaps the mid-afternoon timing of our visit played to our favor. Other than the large table of businessmen in the corner, I think we might have been the only other party there. It is nice and quiet during the day though, and its proximity to Queens Park makes it a good place to stop after an afternoon stomp though the park. Ultimately, it is a drinkers' pub, with a "locals" atmosphere, a reasonable range of alcohol and a friendly staff. The fittings are special, too. The lack of a refit has left the wooden features intact and it cries out for a good old fashioned smoky ambiance.
