Great knowledgeable bookstore clerk, I walked in and asked for what book I was looking for, albeit they didn't have it. But she took me straight to the section where it would be. Everything was amusingly organized. All the featured newer books are upfront when you walk in. All the prices of the books are inside the book written in pencil on the first page. Not too pricey from what I saw. I spent a good $20 and was happy with my purchase and supporting small business. I was informed also of their trading policies for books and puzzles. While this bookstore is certainly not overly fancy, it does provide quite a treasure trove of books. Any genre you can imagine. Tons of old titles. You could get lost perusing for hours. Sadly, the passageways throughout the store are pretty narrow, so it can get a bit uncomfortable when it's busy (and a bit precarious when there are groups of unmasked shoppers sharing the tight quarters during a pandemic). That acknowledged, the owners always seem to be masked (even if not enforcing masking for their patrons), and they are also incredibly helpful and hospitable. Overall, this is a place worth visiting (maybe on a less busy day - for the best experience). Pro Tip: This bookstore offers credit for used books (some restrictions apply), so it can be a great way to replace your already enjoyed books with some yet to be enjoyed treasures. read more

This is such a great used bookstore! Like many others mention, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. You can be directed to what you're looking for, or just wander around to the many different sections of the store. The selection is very good. I have found books in large print, and also complete sets of series, both of which can be more difficult to find other places. We love the generous in-store credit which is provided if you return or bring in your old books in good condition. Overall a very warm and welcoming store! read more

Exploration - the one aspect of the bookstore experience that no digital medium has ever replaced. The unique sense of wandering the shelves, pulling a random title down and flipping through its pages, musing over its cover. Perhaps you put it back and move on, perhaps it gets added to a growing pile of books you plan to read. But it's an experience that nobody - not Amazon or anyone else - has been able to replicate. The tiny, easy to miss Port Orchard bookshop Book 'Em has that experience nailed. Like all my favorite bookstores, Book 'Em. is bigger on the inside. On my last visit, I heard the figure of 80,000 books on the shelves thrown out, but to look at the little space from the outside it's hard to believe it. Once you walk in, though - then you'll see. Every available inch of wall space is packed floor-to-ceiling with books - hardcovers and paperback, all used. There's a small display are near the front for new arrivals, and where you make your purchases and trade-ins, but once you start delving more deeply into the store, you immediately know where all those books are hidden. There's books along each wall, small rooms devoted to mystery or history or science fiction or religious books. The books on the shelves are neatly kept in alphabetical order, but there's also often books along the floor or stacked along the tops of other books. It's sometimes cramped and always smells like a bookstore should - like paper and words and the magic mixture of ideas old and new. Trade-ins are quick and easy (though no more than 20 books at a time) and old-school - credit is kept on notecards near the front of the store. The prices on the books are quite reasonable, and the trade-ins always fair (and often generous). If it sounds a little chaotic, it is - you have to be willing to explore a little, to not just open your eyes but to look up and down and maybe behind you. Some sections are very specific, others very broad. If you're looking for something specific, the always-friendly staff can probably tell you if they have it and where it would be. For someone like me, though, the joy is in the discovery, and that makes Book 'Em a joyful place indeed. Whether I've got something specific in mind or not, I nearly always find something at Book 'Em that grabs my attention. I can spend 30 minutes or more and still feel like there's more to see. That sense of discovery, of exploration, of a place bigger on the inside, is very much alive and well in this bookshop, and I'll keep coming back because of it. read more

Went into this charming used bookstore today for the first time and was warmly welcomed by Jody who took time to learn from me my book preferences and directed me to the areas where I would find them. I was there an hour but could have stayed three. There is so MUCH to see and the store seems to house an endless supply in multiple topics across fiction and non-fiction. It's much bigger than it looks and I'm positive has many more than the 80,000 books it claims to have on its sign. The generous store trade credit program, floor to ceiling bookshelves, the lovely smell of books, and a couple of cozy sitting areas combined with gracious and very friendly staff makes this a treasure I'm committed to visiting repeatedly in the coming months. I've been going to Book 'em for some time now. Their staff is very friendly and helpful with any author you're looking for! I've brought in some of my good condition books and they keep a credit on file for next time you shop. I was given a website that shows an author's books in chronological order which was a plus for me! Keep in mind, it's used books, but all are in good condition! I highly recommend them! When I was reading a book series and having a tough time finding the next book in the series, Book 'Em offered to keep an eye out and call me when the books I needed became available. They will also take your used books and give you in store credit. That credit gives you half off of each book purchased, and can be used in combination with their sales. My favorite local bookstore. Pretty good used book store but not the rare and vintage type, mostly recent stuff still in good condition cheaper than when new. It has the classic feel of an old-time used bookshop but for those of us with vintage and Victorian editions in mind, we're not apt to find anything.
