I liked the selection of books here and the blend of new and used copies that were available. This can be a treasure trove. I like to search the clearance and the games section can be surprisingly fun (found a card game there today). They are inundated with used books from the community and the only reason I don't give five stars is I wish they were a little more happy about it lol. I'm so glad (obvi many people are) that they accept used books, and imo some people DO get carried away (I mean, do you have to bring them ALL your boxes???), yet it would be refreshing to get a bit more of a welcoming vibe from that dept. That said, they go as fast as they can and def work hard on our behalf. And there are certainly many worse things to spend time on than puttering around a bookstore while awaiting the verdict on your used hoard. Thanks! read more

I'm so glad I came across this bookstore because you could pass so much time in here. This one is pretty hidden so you have to be intentional to find it. They have a wide variety of books from all over the years. They even have children's books. I was very surprised when I saw a clearance section because you don't see those that much in a used bookstore. "Half" price though? I wouldn't call it that mainly because a lot of their newer books are about the same price as retail if not more. I do feel like they jip you when you sell to them but that's not surprising. The organization was okay. It was still overwhelmingly crowded bookwise, so it wasn't too easy finding certain books. Some of the staff seemed rude and others were nice. Zero stars for the book selling line. Parked in front, went inside, had to re-park in the back, got help to a dolly to lift the box, waited an hour we were told to wait, then the two buyers disappeared after being told we were next. I suppose they went to lunch. Waited some more and one of the buyers came back and was just goofing around behind the counter. I asked again about the books and he said we weren't actually next and it would be awhile. We had to leave without being helped because they are not efficient. I felt it was a waste of time but it wasn't a total waste of time because I was able to find some treasures while waiting and waiting and waiting. Solid selection across a variety of authors and genres. A lot of the rare editions are overinflated for the selling price. Trade-in values are typically fair. Just time the visit right (avoid weekends) if you are looking to sell as that counter can get backlogged in a hurry with people bringing in 5+ boxes of books at a time. read more

I have only been to Half Price Books a handful of times, but no matter when I come, it is always busy! Keep in mind since it is busy, be patient while you are waiting to be helped while you are in the check out. Even with someone at each register, it can still take a couple of minutes to get through the line. It is located in a plaza, so parking should not be a problem. Books can be expensive, especially if you are buying them brand new, so coming here definitely will help your wallet! Very disappointing - 19 file boxes of books, including some new and gently used, several full sets of reference data publications, US and world history, wildlife and popular/classic novels and literature. What I love about a used bookstore is the smell of old books! Musty, dusty, woodsy smell! Sometimes, you might find a book that's so old - it almost smells like bacon! Bacon = Heaven. Anyway, I love this store with it's decent selection of old records and CDs. Books are categorized by genre and organized by author's last name correctly. Currently with the pandemic, they are listing little signs everywhere that they're limiting one person per alcove. That way you won't find multiple people crowding around the same shelf. If you need to sell your old books, be sure to head all the way to the back of the store. Will you get a good deal on the selling? I had to hit up the mall and found myself nearby one early morning, way before the mall opens so I stopped here. It was delightful. I think their hours open at 9 am every day?? I was surprised they were open at 9. Service from everyone was ideal. Bathroom is clean. This is a big shop, they have everything from records to VHS and all the books you could ever want, old and new. Their gift section up front was very enticing. I had trouble finding a book and someone walked me right over to it. I was not the only person in there before 9:30, a good amount of people were milling around, some waiting on book sales and some like me, just appreciating that this cool place was open for us to peruse. Good variety of media, but don't bother taking any there to sell. They basically offer low ball redemption "value" for your items at maybe ten cents an item, that probably cost you 100, 200, or 300x more. Save yourself the trouble, and give it to Value Village next door, or elsewhere. Otherwise, the store will stall you 1-2 hours to assess your items' "value". BS! They're giving you no alternative but to hang around to shop, or spend money at a nearby retailer or restaurant. read more

As a retiring teacher with a book "problem" even after giving away books to staff, friends, former students and family, I had a truck load of books left. I made an appointment with half price books. I was prepared to get pennies on the dollar (pennies on the hundreds of dollars), I was not prepared for the lack of respect, lack of kindness, being made to feel like a burden and being told to bring half of the books back on another day. This review is for how long they take to value your books. I came in at 5pm and they told me it would take 30 minutes. I only had 6 books for them to value. I checked in at 45 minutes; they still they were still not done. An hour after, I had to check in and ask for my books back. That's when they told me they were done. After waiting a full hour, I got $3.75 for my books. I won't be selling my books to them again, instead I'd just recommend buying from them. I noticed they were on Amazon checking book prices. I'm sure their formula is taking a % off of current list price. I would instead sell your books online to make the most of your time, and donate the rest. Should've read the review of customers who sold their books before coming here. Seems to be a consistent theme here. read more

Yeah I think it could be better I think a lot of these books are old. you know I don't really like getting a 15 year old travel book that's kind of dated. I think they serve a great purpose. I've gotten some stuff from them there they're pretty good. you know a lot of books are hit and miss anyway because you know you don't really know if you're going to like him tell you read them. so specially like recipe books. I thought I'd like the pioneer woman once but you know a lot of times they have like you know pine nuts and stuff. I have zero interest in eating so yeah so it's an okay store. you know it's really it's very conveniently located. I love to recycle my "junk" and buy other people's "junk" and let's face it, browsing in the bookish junk! Great place to recycle those book, CD, DVD, VHS and other bookish items for in-store credit or cash. I also like they find "homes" for items they do not wish to resell. Most often, I find deals that I have placed on my wishlist on Amazon, but at lower prices! What feels better than finding deals, browsing to pass the time, and hoarding new finds is the feeling I receive when I recycle my once treasured "junk"! read more

I brought in about 30 books, and over an hour later they told me they could give me $6 dollars for them. Six. Dollars. I was fine with it, whatever, that's cool. Annoying but I can deal. I then asked what they would do with the books they couldn't sell because I was going to donate those. They said they donate the ones they can't sell. Rad. Except when I leave out back I notice there are TONS of books in the dumpster. And I grabbed a couple to look at and they were perfectly readable. So are they just going to trash the ones I left there? Really frustrating. They're literally next door to a Value Village, just donate them there! I was very irritated by that. I love this place. This location always has a friendly staff and good selection. It's easy to get to with plenty of parking. I recently went in to look for a couple of books, one to replace and one to read for the first time. Even though they didn't have them in stock, the clerk was kind enough to give me the option of having them ordered and delivered to my house. We like this place. I mean... It's a book store. How can you not love it? I recently found the DVD TV series section.... whoa... brings back memories. My kids love to wander the YA section, Comics and games. Fun is had by all. I sell books here pretty frequently. It is so sad how little you get when selling 2-3 boxes of books, HOWEVER - you get a 10% off card when you sell. (THAT IS GOOD FOR A YEAR). One sad thing I saw though is that the books that are not sell-able are dropped out back in the Recycle Bin. I get that... recycling is good .... BUT... This location is right next store to Value Village. Do you get my drift? Those books you are putting in the Recycle Bins could be in a good home! Could be sold to someone who might love them for more years than we have. *sigh* *frown* Clearly... I feel strong about this. read more

Even though I'm super busy at work, I still find time to read. I'm still old school and love a beaten down paperbook that I can squeeze in my mitts. Although this place isn't going to make you rich returning what you're no longer interested in, it's a good place to go and look for things to keep you occupied. It's large and well laid out. It's easy to lose yourself a bit in here. Another plus is the large parking lot in front, so you can cart your purchases quickly to the vehicle without a lot of navigation required. Addicting and I always tell myself that it keeps my tiny brain working by continuing to read and learn. read more

Pretty cool, well stocked, cozy little place. Okay, it's actually a lot bigger than it seems. And wow do they pack stuff in. Lots of categories: fiction, travel, sports, finance, textbooks, childrens... etc. There are thousands of books here. They also carry comic books, dvd's, cd's, records, journals, and some video games. Brand new books are 20% off the listed price. There is also a clearance section in the back of the store. If you sign up for their text club you get 10% off your first purchase. Books are priced okay - can range from $4.99 - $50. I've bought a few here, but I generally am patient enough to wait and find something at Goodwill for like $2. Selling to them: I wouldn't recommend it, unless you have absolutely perfect brand new current books. I brought in about 20 books, some brand new, some older. They offered me $1.15 for 4 of my books, and then offered to just keep the rest for free if I didn't want to take them home - what. I opt'ed out of that. I ended up posting all of my books for $1 a piece on Offer Up and have already sold a few - I suggest that over selling here! Not worth what they will give you. I have been shopping here for years, but that ended today. I called them up to see if they had seasons of the show castle in stock and what the price was. A lady told me that it was 7.99 per season. that was only slightly higher then the half priced books online price, so I thanked her and my wife and I headed down. When I arrived I saw the prices and noticed that only season 1 was 7.99, the other ones where close to the same price as it was new on Amazon. confused I asked the man behind the counter if the prices where correct and explained that I had called in and the price didn't match what I was told. He seamed very irritated with me and said they are right. I asked if he could scan them to make sure, and he wouldn't, instead just looking more irritated said they are correct. he asked me to speak to a manager, I believe her name was Lauren. I went to the back where he was pointing and asked a lady there if she was Lauren. She said no, and that Lauren was on break. I explained the situation to here.. and she said "that's not true, I'm the one you talked to, and I said only the first was 7.99 and the others ranged in price. " so basically, she called me a liar and did so with an angry tone like I was a criminal or something. Very upset but still holding my cool, I went back to the front to try and lodge a complaint with the guy behind the corner. He gave me an attitude and explained that the dvd's always are cheaper for the first season. Like somehow I'm stupid for not knowing what their pricing is! every time I tried to tried to explain my complaint he had a quipy excuse as to why it wasn't their fault, including "its been a long day". As I left he said in a irritated tone sorry your upset, or something to that effect, and said have a good new year. The tone was condescending. I will never return here ever again.. I will also tell all my friends and family about the way I was treated! the two people I talked to tonight where rude and belittling. This is the first time I have ever been treated this way by employees of this company, but there wont be a second time. read more

All the half price bookstores I got to have really nice staff and such a huge selection of books. They are small enough that you don't get lost, but have a nice variety so that you don't feel like you wasted a trip. They have a lot of bargains at this location even outside on the sidewalk. I found a lot of decent VHS and DVD's. I love all the books in the Art section and even found myself stopping in the Fiction and Religion sections because there just some enticing reads there (not a fiction reader or into religion) Anyway HPB never ceases to amaze. And it's right next to Value Village so.....I'm dead! read more

After setting a great expectation via website and video, we "sold" about 100 first run, hardback books to these folks today. They were too busy to make the full transaction while we waited so we came back after 3 hours. Grand total: $20. Barely covered our gas for 2 trips and worked out to a 20 cent avg per book. Well, just got screwed selling books to half Price books, again. I stopped selling there years ago because they were buying for about 25 cents, maybe 50 cents per book if you were lucky. I tried selling new titles, old books,. Almost all in perfect condition. But nope. Enough money for a latte, that's about it. I have found other places who are more selective but pay a lot more per book. Or just give to Value Village. Or open my bags and let my book club take what they want. Don't like feeling ripped off. But, I had two large bags of books in my trunk, rattling around, and drove by Southcenter hpb. Thought I would give it another try. But, just as bad. 3.00 for 12 books. And offered to take the other 40 off my hands. For free. So sweet. Now, I'm telling myself, again, not to return. Annoyed at myself for being too lazy to drive to another vendor. Of course, purchasing books there can be a good deal. But don't sell them!!! I would rather give them away to my book club. Or VV. Or anywhere. read more

Hot shit. Plain and simple. I love me some books and comics and going into this Half Price Books, hell ANY Half Price Books, and I am in heaven. Not only am I a complete and utter bookworm but I love getting my reading materials for cheap. Great thing about Half Price Books are the genre selections. I've gotten adult sexuality books, feminists books, history books, art books, computer books, you name it and I've gotten it. Sections are clearly displayed making it very easy to find what you need. The comic section at this particular location is rather small yet I always end up leaving with something. The staff are phenomenal, very gregarious, and have a high regard for books such as I do. Not really looking for just books? Well, you are in luck. Half Price Books carries DVD, cds, and records. If they don't have the particular book you are searching for you can have the book sent to the location closest to you from another store. I remember utilizing that service in college. Went here to sell a box of books that we have no use for. They quoted me 20 minutes to check out the titles and make an offer. We looked around the store and I was impressed with the selection. If we had more time I could see spending a couple of hours there. They finished with time to spare. The price seemed a little mediocre as there were quite a few popular hard back and complete book sets, but hey, It was better than nothing which is what we were going to get seeing as how I just wanted them out of the garage. This Half Price Books location is okay. It's pretty cramped for the space - lots and lots of shelves of books. On the one hand, that is awesome because there are so many books, DVDs, CDs, etc to look at. On the other hand, it makes it hard to get around, especially on a busy Saturday like the last time I visited. I have found a couple awesome gems here, but not too much else. I am hopeful though that I will find more on future visits. Staff is super friendly and the lines go quickly here, even when it is busy. Parking can be tricky because the lot is a bit awkward, but it isn't too bad. I know I will be back here! read more
