This is by far one of the best toy shops in CT. I've been here a few times and the staff is the best, always super nice, friendly and helpful with any questions, concerns or recommendations. They take their time bagging your items and checking them for electronic defects before buying, saves headache and money. I really ike that they offer to hold your items up behind the counter while you're shopping so you don't have to juggle and carry everything. They even offered to help get me a replacement for a toy that had a little issue within the material it was made of. They always have a wide variety of toys for men and obviously a bunch more for women so that is really nice. So many options for lube and toy care, it's hard to choose! The only bad experience I've had was the very first time I visited, about 3 years ago, where one employees followed me around and stood behind me while I was looking at their selection. Now I don't know if they still work there or not but that has never happened since that first visit which is awesome so don't worry about that. If you're in the area you should definitely stop by! P.S. I do have one suggestion for the owner, if there is any way to put up a fence or something to block the view from the McDonald's next door, that would be amazing, I know it is a long shot but it would be nice to not be seen while walking in or out from people buying food hahaha. First time me and my boyfriend went in one of the workers followed us around and was really weird about it. Second time we went to exchange one of the products we bought thats broken (had the receipt, box, etc) and the old lady was super rude and immediately said "no exchanges or returns" without even letting me explain what was wrong. Cool place that's been a landmark for a long time. They have just about everything to induce pleasure or pain to the human body. They also sell pipes and bongs, so you can be high while trying out your ball gag you just scored. DVDs and magazines to suit every bizarre and disgusting fetish you crazy Yelpers might have. I stop in (seriously) maybe once every couple of years for a laugh or to find something for a bachelor party. Staff is always friendly and eager to assist. Prices are high, and If you're planning on a big purchase, such as a fleshlight or a full size rubber woman you might want to check online first. Like Yelp says, meh. I haven't been here in a few years. If you need your fix and don't want to take a long drive, I guess this may be a decent place to rent/buy your porn. (That's never exactly been my area of interest.) However, ladies, if you're looking for toys, lube, costumes and other fun items, skip Bookends altogether. It's a good place for your first vibrator (maybe) but beyond that, it doesn't have a whole lot to offer. I recommend Oh My Sensuality Shop in Northampton, MA for safe, healthy toys and lubes (seriously girls, do you KNOW what some of this shit is made out of? Take care of yourselves!) and Luv Boutique in Hartford for a big selection of clothes, shoes and props. Luv Boutique also has booths. (Jason, when did Bookends ever have booths? I really like this place. The atmosphere is the best quality it has because the employees are always enthusiastic to help you out with any question you have and welcome you. They give you free batteries if you buy something that uses them. A huge DVD section, a good selection of magazines, my only complaint is a lot of things are locked behind glass and most people would feel too shy to ask.. Today I go to buy a few items and when I asked for help with an item / something new I have no experience using, the lady tells me "that's not something we're at liberty to talk about/ discuss. That's between (me) and the internet. I have NEVER EVER received such shitty customer service in my life. So, I stopped in here the other night... I am a frequent/regular customer of Bookends and honestly I am not ashamed to say it!!! I just wanted to take a quick moment to say how awesome it looked for the holidays and appreciate the endless possibilities of Christmas gifts I was able to find for all my closest friends (yes the adult ones) Not only did I find super cute and hilarious holiday cards, but they were SUPER INEXPENSIVE. I go here because it is a no frills place with knowledgeable staff that are readily available to help you find an item or give you a recommendation if you don't already know what it is that you are looking for. Always stocked and good inventory I always get what I need and am in absolute out in under ten minutes. I purchased an adult toy for over a hundred dollars with tax and come to find out hours after purchase that it was unusable kit was called the rabbit or something like that - it had faux pearls in it but when I brought it to my friends Bachelorette party that night it was no longer working! an employee of the store quickly put batteries in it to show me that it worked before I bought it but I had asked for a a diff color after and she did not show me the new one with batteries I was humiliated never again! so just FYI buyer beware! I will start off by saying it is a cute store. Has everything you need and don't need. So for that I will give one star. I had become a weekly shopper there, first purchase I got was a wonderful little bullet. Next visit was some awesome little oils. Went in with a bigger then normal crowd last week, so of course the people working on shift were walking around more and checking in on us. We left happy my friend got a toy we were all happy. I go in this week to buy a toy for a friends birthday and not 5 minutes of being in the store I had the manager or store owner telling me and my friend to get the fuck out of his store.
