Booklegger is a great place for cheap used books. Treasures abound. If you can find them.

I love this bookstore. I love the owners and staff, the quirky decor, the Victorian building and neighborhood it's in ... oh, and the wide variety of books. ;) If they don't have it, they'll order it for you. I've been visiting Booklegger for thirty years. My kids grew up going there, and now my grandsons continue the tradition. read more

Eureka's version of tin can mailman. Great used books with a friendly and helpful staff.

One of my favorite things about used bookstores is the unexpected treasures you can find. Booklegger is especially conducive to finding those surprising gems because of the layout of the store. An abundance of whimsical chotchkes in the windows, ceiling and around the register add to the charm. The staff is friendly and extremely knowledgeable. My favorite sections are the children's books, the cookbooks and the literature section. I also find the prices to be reasonable. read more

A well-loved used bookstore. The staff is consistently friendly and welcoming, and they've got a wide selection in pretty much every category. I like to stop in before I leave for a vacation, and I always walk out with two or three paperbacks I've been dying to read. A real treasure. read more

I only get to the North Coast once every couple of years but I always make a point to shop here. Great selection of mysteries! I came away with a banker's box full. Another no-bathroom store - is this a college-town thiing or what? Luckily, I had eaten next door so I used their bathroom but I think it you're a serious shopper, you've been in the store for awhile and you need to use the bathroom, you should be able to. They did give me a little discount because I bought so many books at once - that was nice! One star missing for lack of bathroom. read more

Maybe everyone else here has had good experiences, I did when I was young, but I took my wife and kid there and the staff was rude. I asked for a certain author and got sighed at like I am a bother or maybe she hated that author, and then someone else asked her for something, after she helped them she complained how people keep asking her where certain books would be located as if she doesn't work there. I guess this local business doesn't mind losing local customers. It's also very disorganized and had a hard time looking through authors. read more

A nice well-stocked used bookstore in downtown Eureka. They got books in every category that are reasonably priced. The staff has always been helpful too and they've got an interesting and odd set of ephemera near from front. They have a small selection of rarer items that are worth taking a look at too. If you're on a book hunting then this store and Eureka Bookstore a few doors down are a good place to spend a couple of hours. read more

My new favorite Eureka bookstore since Mark no longer works at Eureka Books. Mark-up is kind of high on worn paperbacks, but there is a lot to choose from in varying price ranges. Staff is friendly and helpful. While it's a huge plus that I can take used books in for sale or trade, I don't understand why store credit expires after a few months. read more

I am a Humboldt local and have been to the Booklegger many times. I would like to know where all this friendly service is coming from, because more often than not I have been "helped" by an employee who is completely in their own orbit, acting like it's a huge burden to do any work while on the job. Today was no exception; the girl behind the counter gave me attitude during the transaction and didn't even bother to smile or say "thank you." Well, just because you are a funky local place, that doesn't mean you are beyond reproach. Improve your customer service skills, and maybe I will be back...but probably not, thanks to my trusty Kindle. Less headache, you know? read more
