They've got both new and used books, a tiny sci-fi/fantasy/horror section to me but plenty of fantastic books on local flora, fauna, history and attractions (of which there are many) and books by local writers. They have a good-sized children's selection for their size. The staff we spoke to were super helpful, nice and welcoming. We got a couple books and went back the next day for more and I will totally go there again next time we come to town.

I wanted to get a used copy of Bossypants and the guy helped me find it for $9.50, a total steal. Ninety percent of their books are used and most all are in great quality. You'll also find a cat chilling in the children's book section, giving a cozy, homey feeling. Looking Glass Books is definitely worth a quick stop when driving on I-84.

It's hard to say if it remains intact in the trying times that city condones as of late. This I do not know. I no longer travel to Portland for pleasure. This shoppe is the other. The Archives. It's a place of solitude where you can be inundated with books. You can wander there as long as you like. No one will intrude on you. Help is available for the askance. If books are not your particular cup of tea on any given day many other amusements await. Video this, Audio that and several genres of either. The store is ever changing. Who knows what treasures abound this day or next week? You're looking for what book? Of course you can't find it! How could you? I've been here countless times and I seldom try very hard to find something particular. I query the wizard behind the book sellers desk, (you may have to look hard to see him), he may have what you seek, but not on a shelf. Perhaps tucked away for one reason or another. It may here but not for sale per se. Maybe it is on a shelf and still seems to be invisible. If it's here, he will know that and where. If it isn't, it's likely he can obtain a copy. Book sellers have stores that are like the multitudes you see, you know, in strip malls, in boutiques, and so on. It seems someone has a stamp and just stamps one in this city, then the next city and so on. Boxes, little boxes and they all look just the same. You get my drift. That, thank the Gods is NOT THE CASE here. The owner is a purveyor of books. He eats, breathes, buys, sells and covets books. Yes, he is a wizard. Pooh, pooh you say, I can't blame you. I may have just happened upon a review like this one thought pooh pooh it as well. If you disagree with me friend, you haven't been in his shoppe that's all. There isn't another place like The Archives. There isn't another wizard like the one operating this shoppe. I called to make sure the book was in stock because it is hard to find (I have ordered it from 2 other stores and they canceled the order due to it being out of print). The girl said she would talk to the woman in charge of online ordering and call me the next day. She did not, So I called and just asked if she had a chance to get any information. She stated that the book was not in stock and was actually way more expensive than what I it was listed for. I told her the $57.95 had come out of my account and asked if they could just refund it. She once again told me she would speak to the online ordering person. Moments later (I am on the east coast, so they are 3 hours behind). I get a voicemail threatening to call the cops on me??????? like really? I was kind and patient on the phone, willing to wait for a response and did not DEMAND a refund. This is how you treat people as a small business.? Attached is the transcription of the voicemail (I did not answer because they blocked their number), the withdraw from my bank, and the email confirmation of the order. Talk about shitty business! Next stop....better business bureau.

Peruse through the aisles for fandom knickknacks in random spots and find something you think is too cute you just have to buy. The strange staff lady behind the counter, possibly the owner or manager, is very uptight and could use some refreshing on welcoming service.

All of the employees here are super friendly, and the store overall has a great vibe. Fair warning, it is always PACKED around the holidays, but for good reason-- there isn't a better spot to grab a Christmas gift. The prices are very reasonable, and I think the selection is pretty good for the size of the store. During my most recent visit, my MIL purchased me a beautiful edition of Paradise Lost for ~$20, which I thought was a steal. It's well printed and contains a lot of the gorgeous Doré woodblock prints, which I absolutely love. I will definitely be back!
