I really like this. The repurposing of a movie theater into a bookstore - it got me. As soon as someone mentioned this to me, I had to go. It's a Barnes & Noble, so they everything a normal Barnes & Noble has, but the interior has nods to a movie theater with the neon lights. This location had a great selection of items on sale. Like a lot of great items on sale that I feel like I bought or wanted most of it. When we checked out, we had a friendly and easy experience. Overall: Would recommend.

Such a cute and unique Barnes and noble. I love how they turned this old movie theater into a book store. It's huge on the inside. Don't let the outside have you fooled! There's plenty of books, fun trinkets and other items to buy. Our toddler loved the kids section. There's a bathroom conveniently located near the front and lots of employees. Book prices are typical, as you would expect in any other Barnes and noble bookstore!

I just thought these were so cute!

Allan is my guy!! I was looking for a specific tote bag I saw online and he first went to check and ask his manager then he said it was in the box in the back and he would call be back. I have him my phone, not really expecting a call back as it was an hour before close, but he called!! He had gotten my tote and put it on hold for me! Every time I've been here by books are handled with care and I never feel like I'm burdening someone with a question. Sure it has limited seating and no coffee buuuut to me I like strolling around and looking, not really sitting. Def one of my favorite locations.

We drove by this store a few times and needed to check it out because of the unique sign. There is parking in the back and we were greeted when we walked in. I did feel like it was a bit smaller than other stores but still had a good selection. We found a few things for the family and checkout was quick!

I have to say: This is one of the strangest looking, but oddly beautiful bookstores I've ever seen or been in. From the outside, it looks like an old style movie theater. The name of the store is on an old style movie theater marquee, which explains why there's a lack of signage from the back of the store that makes it difficult to locate (at least driving along Rosecrans Place.) The bookstore is also quite roomy, though the organization of the books is a bit strange as well.

I am a bookworm! So I can't visit any city without exploring the cities' book stores. I really love bookstar / Barnes &Noble in point Loma. The classic decorations of the bookstore gave it a soothing and unique ambiance. In this increasingly digital era, it is important to support brick and mortar bookstores. I really enjoyed being at this place. I wish all the SD residents understand the importance of having a unique bookstore like this in their area! The employees were very nice and friendly. The parking lot: Is located behind the store and it is spacious. There are two enterances; one at Rosecran which is the main street and the other enterance is from the parking lot.

Cute little place! I didn't realize this was a Barnes & Noble. I had some time to kill while doing errands so I stumbled in here. It seems like this is a revamped movie theater? I thought it was really cute. The ladies working here were friendly and made sure customers were being taken care of. Maybe a little update to the bathrooms and it would be nice. All in all, this is a neat place to browse books... I didn't see any areas to sit or a cafe.. but they do sell a few drinks and snacks up front by the misc gifts and music stuff.

Ask the Community - Bookstar / Barnes & Noble

Hey! I was wondering if there was a Board Game section, and if yes, how complete is it?

They have a fairly large toy section like a lot of the bookstores do now. I can't absolutely guarantee that they have board games, but I would bet yes. Honestly, I doubt the selection is very good. I would suggest going to Game Empire or a similar…

Yes, you can probably get books cheaper at big box stores, but you won't get the selection and service you get at Book Star.

I love to give books or gift cards to bookstores to children. Bluestocking Books is the kind of bookstore I would specifically go out of my way to buy gifts for people, or to (gasp) buy a book for myself. There are little cozy nooks around the bookstore, as there should be in a bookstore. There's also a section for kids, with a little table and some reading material to peruse. Inexplicably, Bluestocking Books is closed on Wednesdays! What an interesting day to be closed, but I guess you have to be closed at least one day, right? Why not Wednesday? The people who work here are very friendly and helpful, and there's just a palpable welcoming vibe emanating from the store. It's a nice place to browse and find the perfect book.

One of my favorite bookstores!…read more I think I found out about them because of the L.A. Times' Festival of Books that occurs annually. They were one of the vendors, and they always had such a great selection of books. And their staff was amazing, especially working under the pressure of a book festival! I've had the privilege of being able to visit their physical location, and it was such a lovely (and expensive) visit. Their store proved on what a great selection of books they have, and a good number of them were special edition, signed bookplates, or inked signatures! Staff was great at the physical location, as well. Also, we were able to visit on a Friday for a free book! They do have special events quite often, where an author may come by and speak about their book and do signings! Their Instagram page is quite active, thankfully, so I've been able to order a few special events' books to be delivered to me ( I don't live in the SD area). For the physical location, the parking can be a bit limiting, depending on what time you go. We visited them two (three?) times in a given week and had most success for a parking space earlier in the day, and didn't try to venture for an evening visit. Highly, highly, highly recommend you visit this bookstore and support their business!
