Ive been a mammoth person for 15 years. This year- we came to book joint. First trip we spend 500$ on awesome stuff. Came back the next day- met the owner. What a dang joke of an owner. We spent another 150$. The owner is a joke. He pushed us out of the store. I am at a loss. We won't be back. And we wont spend more money with an owner who cant tell his face from his ass. read more

So many books, puzzles, art supplies and legos! Really nice find in Mammoth Lakes. Parking is easy and they are very helpful!

No, you can't bet $5 on the Lions here at the start of every season, but what you can get is a fascinating collection of books, toys, stationary, writing instruments, boardgames, and Legos to give a short overview. They close at 6pm so I had to wait another day to drop in and I left duly impressed. For the relatively medium sized space they occupy it felt much bigger given the extremely well curated selections of pretty much everything mentioned above and more! I'm a big fan of pens and writing instruments in general, so this place would get my business frequently if I lived up in Mammoth. The Legos collection is enormous, and any kid would be in second heaven here. We also liked the toys and games sections. From basic cards to app driven epics like Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-Earth. It's nice to know such a store exists up there and it's also a good place to buy maps and books of hiking trails. Very neat and orderly too. A++ read more

Cute bookstore in mammoth! We went in yesterday looking for a particular book but left with two different ones. After asking the worker if they had what we were looking for, he said no but that he was willing to order it for us. We were only there for the day so that wouldn't be an option for us, but I thought it was a nice service to offer. He was a kind man and after having a terrible experience at a toy store in mammoth, it was nice to come across this cute book store with a friendly employee. So after leaving a bad review for our experience at the toy store I wanted to leave a positive review for a store we had a good experience at yesterday! This store has a good variety of books and even a section for used books. We were there on a mission for a particular novel so we didn't really roam around but there was a decent crowd inside and they seemed to offer a few other things aside from books. I wanted to purchase a Pokemon Booster Bundle for the new Journey Together set which was clearly visible behind the counter and have purchased others here before, this time the guy behind the register 4/3/2025 at round 4pm didn't let me purchase any. This is the only store in Mammoth where we can buy cards from. I was super upset. I called one of my girlfriends to see if she had better luck and she was also denied(hoping it isn't because we are girls).They're for sale, why would a customer be denied. Super heartbreaking because Pokemon cards are so difficult to get. I hope this is looked into. read more

I love stopping by local bookstores wherever I travel. Mammoth Lakes, CA was no exception! Booky Joint is a small but well stocked bookstore in the middle of town. It is unassuming from the outside but it has everything an avid reader needs. The used books are at a fair price (I got them for about $7-7.50 each). Lots of new books to choose from as well. The best part is that they have lots of books that are specific to this area. Books about the sierras and hiking. Lots of travel and hiking guides as well. It was very fitting for the area it is in! I loved walking in there and am excited to come back the next time I go to Mammoth! read more

I was so happy to have stopped in here! This is an amazing bookshop. "Bookshop" does not even remotely cover it. They have art supplies, oracle cards and other witchy stuff, books including bestsellers, kid books and craft kits, absolutely gorgeous art cards, games, puzzles, and all kind of book-adjacent stuff. I have to say, I was particularly excited about their gorgeously curated collection of jigsaw puzzles. 10/10 would absolutely recommend read more

Went in day after thanksgiving 2021 looking for a game to livin up our after thanksgiving celebrations The gentleman recommended two games and said that PIT was a super fun family party game. My husband and I always stop in The Booky Joint whenever we visit Mammoth. The two employees of the store were incredibly loud with their conversation. Tearing down certain authors in the store, offering constant criticism of their parents "disgusting generational view" of their outdated parents, and even that Mom's green bean casserole was like "vomit" in her mouth. I came to look at books. Person at the register couldn't even summon up a "thanks for coming in" after my purchase. And, yes, I said thank you. I think Booky Joint in now off my list. read more

We did not purchase anything, but love to visit a local bookshop! This one is full of great reads, a bunch of great national park posters(which we should have bought!), many beautiful journals and bookish items and the most Legos we've ever seen it one spot! Overpriced and cluttered toy store with a limited selection particularly on used books. Smells too strongly of incense in such a tight space, could only spend a limited time looking around before developing a banging headache and having to leave. An entire shelf of witchcraft related sorcery without even one religious book. Which was just an observation but speaks too a lack of diversity. As well you can find some political bias laying around like Easter eggs. All ideological bias is a turn off to me when shopping. Specifically, a book store should be a place to escape from the outside world. Even still, I would have loved to spend money here and support a small business, but with their markup it's just not justified. Seem to have a much better craft and board game selection than book selection. Which I would have 100% explored further if not for the overpowering stench that ran me out early. read more

If you can't find something to entertain you and/or your family at this spot then I think there's something wrong with you! There is something for everyone here: books - both new and gently used - at a discount, games, puzzles, local maps and guidebooks as well as assorted funny cards and gifts. My only complaint is that when we returned to purchase a book we'd been "waffling" about buying, they weren't open at the stated hour that they indicate they do business. I don't get the hype. I thought it was expensive and the person behind the counter wasn't very friendly. I thought it would be bigger too with the reviews. I planned on taking my toddler and staying for awhile but that wasn't possible. Also, I did end up buying things but EVERYTHING smelled like incense when I got home. Wonderfully curated selection of books that cover all the best sellers and indie selections as well as outdoor adventure books relevant to the tastes of sporty outdoor loving people who would be visiting this area. This is one of my most favorite stops in Mammoth without a shadow of a doubt. It seems to be as famous as Schat's which is close by and it has a similar phenomena. When you get inside the cozy lil shop, your sense go wild with the sights and smells (yes smells) of this place. Its almost like new car smell, but instead its new book smell!!! I always love to come in here to see what is available in their eclectic collection of random codexes and tomes. They sell books literally on every subject under the rainbow as you can see in the others comments. The workers in the store can discuss hundreds (perhaps thousands) of different authors/works. I highly suggest taking a step back in time 20 years and setting down your tablets and ereaders and picking up a paperback and enjoying a real book again. Who doesn't love a good bookstore? I went looking for a book on the geology of the Sierra Nevada, and sure enough they had several to choose from. They also had an impressive selection of art supplies, some yarn skeins, lots of games, puzzles, locally made cards, unique leather journals, interesting bookmarks, etc. The owner was super nice. The Booky Joint is my favorite place to shop in Mammoth! It has been a staple in every trip to Mammoth since I was a little kid. No trip to Mammoth is complete without picking up a book at Booky Joint (or 2, or 3). They have a great used book section that actually has current titles - which I find to be pretty uncommon. I always appreciate the staff book recommendations and often buy a book based on these alone. Finally, they have great climbing guide books, books on the local animals, nature, geography, and good Eastern Sierra history books. I can't recommend Booky Joint highly enough! read more
