Small facility makes for a great personal tour. We were the only ones on the tour and we were able to convey how much we already knew about bourbon so the tour guide was able to customize it to a more advanced tour language and not so basic more conversational. The people doing the tours also work the line which is 1 room warehouse which you can see from gift shop. This was definitely my favorite Rye in a bit. I liked that the tour was a great low price and an easy getaway for a day trip to try some good bourbon. read more

Whatchyagonado in Kentucky? Visit a brewery! This one is in easy reach of Cincinnati, so I took off in my rental from the Airport for a little adventure. If you expect some bucolic country scene, rolling hills of wheat and barley begging to be transformed into an elixir next to a bubbling brook, then you will be disappointed; Government bureaucracy and fire codes forbades this scene outside of an industrial park. Nothing Boone County Brewers can do but turn the interior into a fantasy blend of fascinating local yore combined with wonderful decor and great hospitality. My cousin planned for us to do a tour and tasting and we really enjoyed Boone! It's a smaller new distillery that has a rustic charm. Michael was an exceptional tour guide (five stars for him) and he was super knowledgeable. The story behind the distillery was very interesting. Since they're new they haven't released their bourbon yet since it's still aging but are selling a mix they worked on with a similar distillery. We bought a bottle of their rye and it was strong but delicious. The bourbon cream was my favorite! Loved it in the hot chocolate for my morning tour! Who knew I could find bourbon in Northern Kentucky? Every summer when I visit family, we go to a distillery. My dad had seen this one near his home and we decided to check it out. This was my first craft bourbon tour. The main area has a lot of gifts and their different products proudly displayed. Very rustic and what you would expect. There is also a large window where you can see the employees working. We signed up for a tour and tasting, $8 I think. Since it was a weekday, it was pretty slow and we were the only ones on the tour so it was very intimate. The tour was similar to other places we've been. It covered the basic history of Boone County Bourbon and the process of making bourbon. Compared to the bigger Bourbons, it was interesting to see how a smaller distillery operates. They are fairly new so they are still aging the first batches. They have partnered with another distillery with a similar mash recipe to sell the bourbon they currently have bottled. However, the white lightning is their own. The tour did include a tasting where we tried two versions of the white lightning (bourbon and rye), a bourbon and bourbon creme. The bourbon creme was my favorite and I liked the rye. We took some creme home with us. It's worth a visit if you like bourbon. I would suggest seeing a larger distillery first before moving onto the craft tour. read more

My husband is a huge whiskey/bourbon guy. We have a huge collection. So when we were passing through Kentucky to get to Nashville, we had to stop at a few distilleries to check out the local stuff. Our first stop was Boone County. My husband's best friend suggested it as that is where his sister got married. The distillery starts in a small room with their alcohol displayed along with some other stuff. Very cute overall. They asked if we wanted to do a tasting and four of us said sure. They took us to a separate tasting room. It was designed to look like the inside of a barrel. I had never seen anything like that. It was so cool. The staff member was so informative and gave us a great history of the company along with great techniques and descriptions of everything. We even got bonus tastings of an alcohol of our choice. Because of the tasting we walked away buying four bottles. Everything was so yummy. I'd love to come back if we are ever in KY again! read more

After being holed up at home for the last 6 months due to COVID, my husband and I decided to venture out here for a tour & tasting since it is less than a mile from where we live. We arrived a few minutes early to our tour and ordered some cocktails while we waited, both with their bourbon cream. I tried the chocolate martini and my husband tried the root-beer float. Both were tasty, but the float was the better of the two and reminiscent of an actual root beer float. We did the Grain to Glass experience, which was less than $8 a person. We felt safe because they were hosting small groups, but were disappointed that seemingly none of the staff were wearing masks. The tour was a typical tour on any stop on The Bourbon Trail, with a nice mix of the history of bourbon/whiskey making, how their distillery came to be and some of the science of how to make bourbon. After the tour we were seated for our tasting (with complementary shot glasses), and they did seat the different parties separately due to COVID. By far the winner was their bourbon cream. The staff is very very friendly. We did the hour long tour and found it very entertaining and informative. I've been to several different winery and brewery tours and find them all to be the same so it was very refreshing to hear a lot of back story and heritage. You can tell they care and take pride in their bourbon. The tour was only $8 which came with 4 tastings. We didn't reserving a slot online and just walked in and paid for our tour when we got there. Birthday weekend in Cincinnati and Gatlinburg. Stopped here for the Grain to Glass experience, Father's Day gift for my husband. He's a bourbon guy very informative staff. Ashtin greeted us and knew it was my birthday. That was awesome. I'm so glad this place was open to do a tour (with all the pandemic stuff going on). Our tour consisted of two other people and our guide, Justin (I think LOL) it was nice to see behind the scenes and hear the history of the place. We got a drink prior to heading in for the tour. Very tasty! We ended the tour with a tasting of their moonshine and bourbon. Not a fan, but husband was! He walked away with several bottle and several ideas of what to make with them! Do not expect custom bulk orders to be easy. They are funneled through the Operations Manager as the ONLY person at Boone who is permitted to do any aspect of ordering, confirming, problem-solving, and escalations. This means that the amount of time it takes to place the order is slow, you must prepay, and if there are any problems with the order after 3-4 weeks of waiting without cash or product in hand, she is the only person you will be allowed to work with for escalations. read more

"Made by ghosts" is the haunting slogan from this excellent distillery and they'll tell you exactly why. Boone County Distilling Co., bringing back recipes from a pre-prohibition era distillery of the same name, is making great small batch Kentucky bourbon. My lady and I came here on a tour with American Legacy Tours (Distillery & Spirits Tour) and really enjoyed it all. The location is very close to I-75 so it's easy to reach. It's a pretty nice, open area too... Even with the massive Fedex building nearby, but it's still very nice. The tour was very informative and enjoyable, as they go very in depth with the history of the name, the area, the product, and everyone involved in the original distillery before the wretched beast that was "prohibition" was signed into law. Thankfully, that law is long gone. After the tour, we were treated to some nice samples; Tanner's Curse New Make (aka white dog), Eighteen 33 (their 10 year aged bourbon), and White Hall Bourbon Cream. The Tanner's Curse was a bit rough at first but was good for what it was. I really enjoyed the Eighteen 33 for a nice, complex, sipping bourbon. The Bourbon Cream made a excellent and not too sweet like some bourbon creams are to me. I could see it added to desserts and drinks to make them really tasty. Easy to get to, easy to enjoy, Boone County Distilling Co. is an outstanding destination for bourbon fans of all levels. Buy a bottle, buy a barrel (one day, if I ever have enough money), and take in some of Kentucky's finest small batch bourbon! read more

Dannnng I wish I took photos. The entrance was really picturesque. The guide was very informative and took control really well. There were only three of us. The part that really was mind-blowing was the tasting: we got to taste so many that I said no to the rum, just so I could drive to the next appointment. I had bourbon, gin (spring and winter mix), and bourbon cream. There is also a bar where you order a drink prior to the tour! So I had a mule! So just be careful driving here. Also the original price was only dollars, and they let you keep the shot glass as well as the plastic shot glass. I bought a shirt but wanted to buy more things because they had great merch. read more

Stopped by while we had some time to kill in Cincinnati. We showed up a little early and were going to sit outside in the rocking chairs. Got lucky because one of the employees opened the door just to tell us they don't open for another 20 minutes and she let us use the bathroom instead of running to a gas station. This location sits inside of an industrial park. They have a tasting section along with plenty of items to purchase. They do have a wheat bottle that is only sold at the distillery. This review will be fairly short. A festival going on (why we visited,) made our experience different than the norm. Bourbon, Bites and Brews Festival was much busier than I had been anticipating. There was live music, several spots outside to get cocktails, bourbon and beer. Due to the crowds, bottles of bourbon could be purchased inside but not sampled. Food trucks were on-site for food. There were a few games for kids, or kids at heart. Tours are available usually, but weren't for the festival. Employees seemed genuinely happy to talk about their products. I have a feeling this was not out of the norm. The employees at Boone County Distilling Co seem to all be excited about breathing new life into this once dead (closed) distillery. We weren't planning on coming here. We were on our way home to Cincy from Louisville and saw the road sign on the highway for Boone County Distilling. So I looked up their site and made a reservation and off we went! This is not a Jim Bean or any huge distillery tour you would normally think. They call themselves a "craft" distillery. The owner was there, jumping right in, working with the staff. Fun to visit a spot not owned by a big corporation. The tour guide was great- very informative. I was impressed with how much history he could share. The rickhouse was very impressive. The tasting was cool- needless to say the bourbon creme was awesome. Made me want to start being a coffee drinker, lol. I found their prices a bit on the pricey side. And they ran out of........guess what.......bourbon of all things. read more

I start this review by sharing that we have been on 2 distillery tours and spent hundreds of dollars on their spirits (both in the distillery and from retail stores). This review is more focused on their event coordination side unfortunately. While searching for wedding venues, Boone started as an option for us however their availability did not match our wedding date but we discovered their offering of custom labeled mini bourbon bottles, which we loved the idea of sharing with our friends and family. After sharing our interest in the mini-bottles, we were provided the pricing which varies based on the number ordered and were informed that they need 3 weeks to make and label the bottles. With that info, we contacted Susan (The Operations Manager) directly on May 12 (8 weeks prior to the wedding date). We received no response for 3 weeks, so we called the manager in the gift shop to place the order. From that conversation, it was 10 days (multiple calls, multiple emails were exchanged) in order to get things confirmed and paid for. Susan said she would contact us when they were ready. No dates were given however they knew when our wedding date was. After that, it took another 3 weeks of no updates, so we called them for one. We were told on the Tuesday(week before the wedding) that it would be ready by the end of the week. We received a text and email on Thursday letting us know they were "completed" and ready for pick up. We drove an hour 1 way on Friday afternoon to pickup the bottles. Upon inspection, we discovered that the labels were not the provided and approved proof, and had our names reversed. We shared this with the manager and he then went to call Susan. The Manager returned letting us know that they couldn't get the bottles corrected until Tuesday at the earliest and Thursday at the latest (our wedding is on Saturday of that week). That was not acceptable to us because we are 1 hour away, we have a ton of final things to do on top of our day jobs so we asked for a discount on the price to make up for the error and our time. The manager disappeared again to call Susan and he returned letting us know that she was going to call us before we left. 10 Minutes later, Susan called (we didn't want to cause a scene with those in the lobby so we took her call outside) and said that she could have the bottles remade over the weekend however it would require us, once again to make the drive over. That didn't work for our schedules and we shared this with her. We asked for her to discount the price once again. Susan said that she couldn't because their margins were already small. This is where it became obvious in the conversation that Susan was more interested in their margin than making this right. I made it clear that it sounded like she was less concerned on fixing this and repairing a damaged relationship caused by a miserable experience, and that customers walking in the door also heard our discussion. She at that point, stated that the call was going to end, that they wanted us off the property and were going to issue a full refund, even though our tone was calm and professional. We went back inside to speak with the manager, give him the bottles and share our disappointment. He was already on the phone with Susan and had no interest in hearing what we had to say, or address the poor service/experience we received. He just wanted to take the bottles back quickly. We were not issued a refund immediately as promised. We share this only to educate and hopefully prevent anyone else from going through a miserable experience with Susan or Boone County Distillery, with what should be an incredibly memorable and fun day, in ones' life...Their wedding. The bottles were going to be a part of that for those attending to take home a memory of that day and the area in which we call home. The business owner below never contacted us (Customer Service 101) to discuss this, and chose instead to reply with dishonest information. Another red flag! read more
