Excellent practice. Very well run, providers are awesome. I got an appointment in about three weeks for a checkup, to be expected, and the quality of care couldn't have been better. My providers were amazing, and took my fear of needles into account. Completely painless. In a day and age when our healthcare system is so broken, and we so often feel like a number not a human, I felt seen here. Will definitely go back! Dr. Carol Marks is truly one of a kind. My daughter and I have been seeing Dr. Carol Marks for about two years now, and I can honestly say she is the most thorough, well-rounded, and genuinely caring doctor we have ever met. She is an incredible listener -- she doesn't rush you, she gives you all the time you need, and you can tell she truly hears every concern. What really sets her apart is how compassionate and dedicated she is. She went above and beyond trying to get my daughter's medications at an affordable price - making calls, doing follow-ups, and working through different options until it worked for us. No one does that anymore, but she did. She carefully adjusted and changed medications as needed, always checking back in to make sure things were going exactly the way they should. Dr. Marks has a warmth about her that reminds me of a loving grandmother taking care of her grandchildren - gentle, protective, and incredibly attentive. She is detailed, concerned, and completely invested in her patients' well-being. I still can't believe we are fortunate enough to have someone like her here in Boone. I am grateful for Dr. Marks. I have a form of Dermatitis and after 2 yrs and several specialist that could not help me, I found Dr. Garner, he has helped me so much. He took time with me and explained what I had and how to treat it. He is a great dermatologist His office has the most friendly helpful staff and they all make you feel very welcome and comfortable. Erin Howard is truly an amazing PA, although she is as good as any doctor I have ever seen. She is the most thorough, kindest, takes her time, etc. just amazing. I have been going to her for several years now and I will continue to go to her as long as she allows me because of her thoroughness, kindness, informative nature. Went here in college for facial acne treatment but each time I went the doctor would examine my entire body and wanted to point out moles that ~seemed possibly~ pre cancerous. I don't mind the concern but the bedside manner was cold and unwelcoming. Each time I went they pushed me to get them removed with a minor excision, I'm now assuming there was a profit motive behind this. I ended up getting two removed but their crappy stitches busted immediately after each time! Stopped going after their second failed attempt at a minor stitch. Now my arms have two nasty looking permanent scares! Guess that's just another reason to go back though, huh? This place pretty much has a monopoly on the dermatology game in town. Hope they're not still pushing this racket or have at least gotten better at stitching. Would recommend finding somewhere outside of Boone, in a larger city for treatment. read more

Dr Tolbert is wonderful. Dr Tolbert Appears to be very knowledgeable and very personable. He also gave me every option in the world to pick from and then let me make a choice. He did not push any procedures and was very kind. I would go back to him in a second. I just had to use a PA today (Erin) and I have never had good luck with PAs. Erin was fabulous.I would use her again in a heartbeat. Her assistant McKenzie was also wonderful. I was a little nervous but they both put me at ease. Waste of time, staff rude and pushy, visits are packed together so close, don't expect a kind beside manner, if your time is valuable don't expect it to be treated like that here, wait wait wait. Better perhaps to go off the mountain to more experienced doctors that aren't ego affected as the "biggest" place in town. read more

I saw Dr. Tolbert during the summer of 2020 and I was very satisfied. This year in June I was sent to the emergency room due to a dermatological issue and the emergency room nurse made arrangements for me to see one of Boone Dermatology Clinic's doctors the following day. I went there as per my instructions and found that a doctor would not see me after all but rather one of the PAs. Fine, she was good. Now in August I tried to make an appointment with Dr. Tolbert or other M.D. at Boone and was told that the doctors didn't see patients with rashes and that only the PAs did. I responded that I didn't think that this practice was a good match for me. My only regret is that there don't seem to be many other dermatologists in the area. read more

I have been going to Boone Dermatology Clinic/Dr.Whittaker since 2001. I was referred to them because I had a spot on my ear that I was concerned about. Dr.Whittaker said it looked like a freckle but he would remove it if it made me feel better. Anytime I go for my annual check-ups he is more then willing to check and remove anything I am feeling uncomfortable about. The staff is professional and very helpful.Any questions I have they are more than willing to listen to and answer.Everyone there is very pleasant and helpful. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a great dermatologist. read more

The staff at Boone Dermatology are professional and courteous. I highly recommend Carol Marks for the treatment of acne, and I'm sure she's fantastic in everything she works with. I gave her a thorough history of past treatment as well as current limitations (e.g. cannot avoid sun exposure) and she decided on a regime that has been extremely beneficial. I never feel rushed during appointments, she's happy to answer questions and discuss options and considers the best financial options for treatment. One valid critique of Boone Dermatology is that you typically have to wait months before you can be seen, which is a stronger concern with more serious and time sensitive issues. I was disappointed by having to wait three months for an appointment, but the results have been above and beyond my experiences at other clinics. You can always try calling regularly to see if they've had any last minute cancellations that could move up your appointment. On that note, if you're tempted to go to Maggie Sparks as a quicker alternative (she's the only other option in Boone at this time), I recommend asking around to confirm if that's the best option. I haven't personally had a bad experience, but I'm thankful for the doctor and friends who warned me away from that option. read more

I was a walk-in patient in Boone on vacation from Florida and was expecting to have to wait for an appointment. I was concerned about a spot that had been on my leg for about a month. After explaining my situation to the receptionist she checked to see if there was a doctor available. There was. After completing the necessary paperwork I was seen by the very professional, pleasant and congenial Dr. Gardner who examined me, decided to perform a biopsy and asked about any other dermatological issues of concern. I was 100% satisfied with all aspects of my visit. I was very appreciative of the prompt attention of the entire staff to my issue and I look forward to being treated by Dr. Gardner and the Boone Dermatology Clinic Staff in the future. Some very good doctors. Big downside is although they claim "reduced wait times" now, expect an appointment to be 30 days out from the time the appointment is made. Their claim is not matched by how they have organized the business. This is unfortunate. read more

This mishap has absolutely nothing to do with COVID-19. Having had filler injected last October, Dr. Summey pointed out that he was reserving part of the portion of filler for a future touch up whenever I would like. No mention was made of when I might like to do so. Imagine my surprise when, after having spent several hundred dollars on the intervention, I found out when I called this week to ask about that touchup and was told it was expired. I had to call four times in one week to try to ask for an appointment, always being told that I would get a call back, but it never happened until yesterday, a week later. Nurse Sherry's attitude was totally unacceptable! She said but it was too small and amount to be worried about, so I reminded her that the doctor had said he was specifically reserving that "small amount" for a future touchup. It is totally unprofessional and unacceptable that neither the doctor nor his staff lifted a finger to contact me, the patient to give me any advice about the expiry date of the product!! Perhaps Boone Dermatology is far too accustomed to dealing with the very wealthy, but not all of us have the pocket money to run out and I have this sort of intervention performed. Some of us have seen that Boone dermatology, or at least Dr. Sammy and his staff, are not trustworthy. I will save my money and seek out a dermatologist in a different city in future. For now, wiping the dust off my shoes with this "doctor" and "staff." read more

First of all.... beautiful office! Such friendly staff!! I was not looking forward to having the Mohs surgery, but Dr Westphal and his staff made such a difference in my procedure! The whole process started by me being taken back exactly when I was supposed to. How often does that happen in a doctor's office?! Right away the staff was so kind and made sure that I was comfortable. Dr Westphal and his staff were funny and upbeat. I even told the doctor that I wish there was a way to show his personality on the website. It's safe to say that most people dread going to the doctor but Boone Dermatology Clinic makes going to the doctor a lot easier!! Thanks for making my appointment go so smoothly!! read more
