Being a novice, I felt comfortable and at ease with Tesia, my pilates intructor at Pilates Studio of Carmel. She demonstrates what she would like me to do which is great since I'm a visual learner. It was my first pilates lesson but I've spent most of my younger years taking lessons (mostly tennis) and then instructing myself and her style is very professional yet she creates a warm inviting atmosphere. Tesia is sweet, patient and overall a superb instructor. The studio itself is in a prime location in Carmel by the Sea and there are several windows giving it an open, clean and airy vibe. I look forward to taking many more lessons with Tesia there. Oh and Tesia is a hottie too! Haha! I strive to be as fit as her some day.

The small size means that you get 1:1 or 1:2 attention -- she can watch your form, adjust the resistance, or swap out exercises if you have an issue to work around. She's a pro and can also do non-Pilates personal training, weights, cardio, or hikes. She's super welcoming, no matter your level, and her energy is contagious. You can tell she truly loves helping people get in shape.

It was my first time ever doing it and it was awesome! First, the studio is large and well-maintained. They have both Gyrotonic equipment and Pilates equipment. I'm a PIlates instructor and quickly noticed how fantastic the set up was. I'd definitely recommend doing Pilates here. I was with Domini on the Gyrotonic side. There are quite a few machines and a lot of space to workout. Her instruction was top notch. She is a Master Trainer, extremely smart but she also explains things so that even a beginner could understand. It is very different than Pilates. All levels of fitness can do this and all ages, too. There are other barre studios in town that are good, but why go to the Chipotle of barre studios when you have the opportunity to be a part of an actual community? The instructors absolutely have their soul is in it. I've been pushed harder in these classes in an utterly respectful way than I ever have at my franchised barre studio. There are 3 studios. The Monterey studio is sun drenched (something out of a catalogue) and the beautiful windows open so you can feel a light breeze on your face during your practice. The Carmel studio is intimate and perfect for the Barre After Dark class (candlelit slow and intentional). Arianne really cares about your experience in a way that just isn't prevalent in fitness. The physical therapy by owner Hiromi is unbelievably effective. After only several visits to her,…read moreduring which she used a "shockwave therapy" treatment on my very injured wrists and hands, I had significant improvements. This is after almost no improvements from 7 months of physical therapy at a different medical center and being told by a specialist I would never be able to move my thumb normally again. I was overjoyed by the progress after seeing Hiromi for only a few visits. I would estimate I had an 80 percent improvement from two visits with her versus approximately a 5 percent improvement of twice weekly physical therapy, cortisone shots, doctor's visits, etc. for many months elsewhere. Hiromi is precise, very informed, and extremely talented. The studio itself is spacious and spotless, and includes all types of Pilates equipment. I can't recommend Hiromi highly enough. She truly listens and understands the human body and turned my "hopeless" case into a success story! I went from not being able to bend my fingers to being able to write again in just two visits! I am beyond grateful to her.
