The stops are so well placed I would imagine if you didn't want to use your car during the day you could use this. I also imagine locals use it too considering the stops. It is a nice breezy and free way to get a look at the downtown region. The only thing I would warn is about the bumpy terrain and lack of shocks in the Trolly. But for free it is well worth getting jostled around a bit. A nice find.

What a wonderful resource so closes to the city! We did the Porter Preserve trial - easy hike,…read more beautiful views, much smaller distance than it seems on the map. Took about an hour but we stopped at every vista and took posts of pictures! No trial map needed - very well marked with white blazes. Did the Oven's mouth east trial next morning - some views but not nearly as nice, harder to follow trial marks. Also took 1 hour, fewer stops. Went to the Mill Pond Overlook after lunch - DO NOT recommend. View was nothing special, goose poop everywhere, rear wheel drive car almost didn't make it back up to the steer - took 4 tries. Disappointing and almost regretful situation!

At that time it was just the founder Bob Miner and his wife giving tours. Now DH has grown to be a sprawling animal sanctuary that even had a short stint reality TV show at one point (really sad that did not continue). Currently, with all of the expansion, it is now hard for visitors to get a sense of how Bob started the sanctuary by taking in exotic animals seized by the Maine warden service and how creating a sanctuary for those animals helped him heal from PTSD he was experiencing as a Vietnam veteran. I almost wish there was a welcome video in the visitors center... In any case, this is an incredible spot to check out if you happen to be in the area!

Vivaldi's 'Winter' plays in my head as I step inside and the Russian Nutcracker dolls stare a warm blankness of welcome back at me - and I begin to observe things more closely as I go - to the end of the rainbow. Norwegian cup sets and German decorative plates are set up in front of flowing paintings of cherry blossoms, oils of creepy kids and alternative art canvases and it darn near broke my heart to leave the French prints behind. Look up to see candelabras and left to see a antique ice bucket - all of this I adore. Manual hand mixers and beaters next to flour and sugar silos, enamel coffee pots and Pyrex tanned glass crockery. My arms were filling up so I bought two bags and went hither and tither and placed two egg cups inside and a Ralph Lauren roll-up mat with pillow. Between the hand blown blue and green glass galore the large pewter population, frosted glass of polar bears and Mickey Mouse - I had to have it all, but I live on the road and I shant - much to my sadness my rainbow was shortened on this day.
