The Boothbay Railway Village and museum is put together and maintained with a lot of love both for trains but also for the history of the area. Staffed with folks who will talk your ear off for hours but are also respectful of your time, you can see so much from train memorabilia to a huge collection of antique cars and trucks. Make sure to ride on the steam locomotive and explore all the buildings. There's also a nice antique store and gift shop on the grounds.

Bought the cutest rabbit weathervane here! The antique store was very cool. We did not actually go to the Railway Village museum, because of time. However, it looked quite interesting.

Superb detailing in the model train layout

"Railway museum" is a bit of a misnomer. There are fewer railroad cars than at similar venues and the ride is more akin to an amusement park ride around the property, but there's a lot more on offer: - A large collection of vintage autos - Beautiful restorations of old buildings, one of a vintage gas station with a vintage car to match - General store, with vintage boxed and canned goods - Old train station - Huge and very detailed model train layout - Vintage fire engines - Huge collection of vintage outboard motors It's a bit of a mish mash, and admittedly light on the train car/engine component, but lots of interesting stuff to see, very well done, and at a fair price.

This was a really fun last minute idea. The tickets are $20 each and if you buy online there is a small fee but it is totally worth it. My son loved the train ride. Start off with filling out a post card to Santa who you will meet on the train and can give to him. You can get cocoa, coffee and cookies too. My son never sits still but once the train started going he was all into it. After the train ride you wan walk around through the little village into all the buildings and there is something set up all around. From making an ornament to sitting on the big old fire truck (Aldens favorite).

Pretty environment, nice entertainment, burgers, hot dogs, homemade pies, pretzels, beverages, railroad ride was alright, ticket guy (50s, Caucasian, overweight, white haired/bearded) was rude, with aggressive tone, kept telling my family to move multiple times while standing on the platform but not clarifying where to move, when I asked him where he would like my family to move to, he said "you don't have to get ugly" and proceeded with his rudeness, horrible customer service skills. I felt there was a bit of discrimination from this ticket guy because my family was a diverse group of races, however, when there was 2 other groups of all Caucasian individuals, standing on the exact spots in which we were asked to move multiple times, they were not asked to move. Other staff throughout the property were kind and provided good service.

This was part of my Maine bus tour otherwise I probably wouldn't have visited. I am glad I stopped in. It is a pretty good preservation of history. There are a bunch of classic cars, buildings and more. It's a nice stop on the way to Boothbay Harbor. Plan to spend 30-45minutes.

This place is a great place to visit with your family, and they have a great set-up. They have a ton of antique cars in a show room and they have a toy train set to watch. The train takes you on 2 loops around the village and they have a ton of buildings to go through with old farming and train stuff. They have a old fire house set-up with classic trucks and equipment. Bring cash to pay for your tickets, but the store takes visa and Mastercard. It's 10 bucks for adults and can't remember what it is for kids. They also give military discounts.

This place is amazing! The steam train takes you on a full circle ride. The little shops are so cute and historical! I learned a lot of history here! They also had a house filled with antique cars!

This is an excellent museum which highlights Bath's proud history of shipbuilding in Maine…read more Although the admission fee is high ($20 or $22), it helps to support the volunteers and activities of the museum. We only had 2 hours available, so we focused largely on the exhibits. The museum includes various buildings which highlight different aspect of shipbuilding from caulking, blacksmithing, and building skiffs (modern day boats used to travel on Maine's coastal waterways). We loved the exhibit on lobstering in Maine - with superb displays that showed why Maine's lobsters are prized worldwide (they have the best claw meat), and a colorful display of buoys and traps. Talking with volunteers about the art of woodcarving and building skiffs was very interesting. It was cool to see the flagpoles (representing the Wyoming schooner) and Bath Iron Works in the distance (a current shipyard for the U.S. Navy). Since we only had 2 hours available from 10am-12pm, we could not join the afternoon lighthouse cruises (which looked like fun). Overall, we enjoyed our visit to the Maine Maritime Museum! You'll learn a lot about Bath's proud history of shipbuilding and the tradition of lobstering in Maine.

I have done cruises, taken classes, and attended dinners here, and each experience was such a treat! I know that I will NEVER again watch fireworks from shore when it was so much better to watch them from the water. I highly recommend becoming a Museum member, not just for the event discounts, but just to have access to the beautiful grounds. I have whiled away more than one afternoon, watching the beautiful Kennebec River and all the wildlife from the grassy shore. This Museum is so much more than a museum; it's a celebration of Bath's relationship with the sea. If I could give this more than 5 stars, I would!

Seeing the old equipment being used (like the hand-moved engine turn-about) is a highlight as is the shared experience with the other guests. There's plenty of time and plenty of food, so don't panic that the food line seems long; in fact, be prepared because there is lots of time left over after eating to explore the farm's lavender and roaming goats. Note: If you have mobility problems, this might not be for you: there are steps from the platform up onto the train and back down, a ride back and forth from the train to the farm site on a tractor-pulled wagon, and uneven grassy walking on the farm.
