When I agreed, he added those to the list. He gave me a start date, told me to choose my cabinets, and said that once I'd done that, he would work up a list of bids for each job so I could decide what he should do first. I hurried and selected cabinets the week and, per his instructions, ordered my new refrigerator and stove,, which he said he would hook up as soon as they were delivered. I picked out cabinets a few days later and that information was emailed to him. Over the next 3-4 weeks he contacted me about odds & ends; each time I mentioned I hadn't yet received the bids. He told me that "in the next few days" he would get them done and email them to me. I contacted him a week before he was to start work (about 5 wks later), and he informed me he was running behind, and it would be 2 additional weeks. I was fine with that. I reminded him that I still hadn't received the bids -- I got the same answer about "the next few days". I called him again the Friday before he was supposed to begin work, and he said it would be another month. I asked him about the bids. Again, he said he planned to work on them in the "next few days". A week later, I asked him if he could come hook up the electric to my stove, as he had said he would, and I asked about the bids. He responded, "I can't work up the bids until I know what work you want done." I was shocked, as had the list, measurements, etc., and he had referred to the different projects several times. I reiterated the information about the list, etc., and he said he couldn't meet my deadline. I had not given him a deadline and had been adjusting to the dates he kept establishing. Long story short -- 3 months of stalling and not doing what he promised to do. As a result, I have been unable to cook or do laundry here in my home the entire time, and nothing has been done.

These are high-quality because the place does not do its own castings; it buys the best from the area's casters. Then you notice something special...there is a camel staring at you. Yes, a real camel, not a concrete camel. Then you spot the zonkey, the emu, the goats, the birds. These animals are for sale. I would call this a worthwhile stop for people traveling on I-55. Paperwork means nothing and he has no morals. If you still give him a chance, make sure you get a copy of his insurance, you will need it! I am being thorough to warn everyone possible not to hire him. Save yourself thousands!!!! We hired this man trying to give him a chance as he said he and his family were wanting work. He used religion as a front to make it seem as if he had morals - it couldn't be further from the truth. We thought it would straight forward and we had documents that outlined the work, the amount to be paid, and what materials what would be provided by the home owner vs. the business. Months pass and to put it at best, poor work happened and we continuously had to have "meetings" where we would out line the issue (extremely crooked wall, see photos - he built the wall not old construction)and he would defend why he did it - we have had contractors confirm no, there is no reason the wall needed to be crooked, you are just terrible at your job). Our bedroom currently has over 1,000 lbs of floor leveler on it because he didn't think it worth was just replacing the subfloor (maybe $300?) on 110 sq ft - if you know you know. He also tried to level this floor at 10 PM in the dark (no electricity was out there) with his young daughter (10? 12?) being the judge of the floor being level... I can't even begin to explain the regret of hiring him every single day of him showing up to the house wondering what he damaged or made worse. We only allowed him to continue because he said he was willing to make things right and we had already given him the money - literally the only reason I ever allowed him near me or my home again. Sure, we continued to try and work with him and his family. They showed up at the worksite with young children in dangerous situations: we had no floor and had nails, insulation, mold, and other things exposed. We were already uncomfortable with this in our home but especially with kids and being in our home. We asked for insurance purposes they not come. He continued to bring them to the work site. When they began work on our basement bathroom the real horrors began. It shouldn't be too crazy, install a pre-fab shower pan 48x24 and move a toilet. Sure, we will need to cut our basement floor - agreed and noted. However, this was noted in our estimate, and instead of disconnecting the old sewer, he just used literally (see photos and mold) a full can of flex seal, a Walmart bag, and electric tape to disconnect our old sewer line. I expressed concern over text and verbally numerous times about this health hazard as it was leaking and growing mold more by the day. We had a contract and I was about to ask for the money back because of the health risks that they kept minimizing (see LITERAL FROGS COMING IN OUR HOME, FROM SEWER LINES LEAKING IN OUR HOME WITH ACTUAL SEWAGE FROM OUR UPSTAIRS TOILET) yes - I do feel all caps was needed. We tried to ask for money back for the incomplete work and his deadline of completing the entire project had passed without a single room finished - in fact, we had to repair EVERY SINGLE THING the man touched AND MORE. The work was not completed and months past his promised deadlines so we again ask for his updated timeline. We had given him a deposit, half of the remodel cost (again, lessons learned but want to warn/save others !!!) and he kept saying he would refund us and that he was "in over his head" but he was continuously flakey and never showed up again. He removed his trailer and we never saw him again. We were out over 18,000.00. We filed charges with the local sheriff department and are actively working on figuring out how to proceed legally. Bottom line: do not hire this man - he is a liar, dangerous, told me he had poisoned a previous clients dog with steak "so he couldn't resist it" (as if that's something that's normal and you should tell a homeowner). I did however get over twenty cameras professionally installed to ensure the man will not be visiting our property to harm our animals or cause more property damage. This is a person who hired this man and lost close to 20,000, I was young, trusting, trying to help a person out who needed work, and I regret everything.

First, he did not get the proper permits for the job and built it against code. There are so many things wrong with this build but i will highlight the worst. Water leaks in everywhere. The inside now has black mold on the studs. The roof had a dent in it and he was going to bring a full sheet of metal to cover it, was here with it and then left with it. I had a specific door i wanted put on that was $319.00. He put on a $125.00 door and told my daughter-in-law, "oops, i got the wrong door." He had workers that we supposedly learning how to do this and the man was supposed to be an electrician but could not install a 3-way switch without throwing a breaker if the light is on and they use an electrical appliance in the kitchen. He was frequently gone and didn't come when he said he would. He told me steel went up and he needed $800 more for it so i paid him in cash. My d-i-l watched me count in the house and then i took it out to him. Whe he came back he said i only gave him $600. He said i was not paying for labor but it is clearly on his bid. When i asked for receipts, i was not given any. He has insurance but only liability not against his workmanship. I attempted to take him to small claims court but he could not be found to be served. I contacted his insurance company for help in reimbursement and that's when i found out his insurance is only liability. The adjuster cannot reach him. I would not hire him to build a doghouse for me.

All the excuses CP wrote were absolutely true I also know firsthand that he takes money from people and doesn't even show up with the materials. There is something in action now that will stop him from cashing checks. Do not absolutely do not give him cash and if he's not willing to give you a receipt if you choose to hire him anyway after reading CP and all of this confirming everything then make sure you get that receipt before handing over any money whatsoever. He thinks he is the Teflon Don and everything is going to roll off him but eventually it will all come to an end and again SCP wrote whatever he responds is just another lie

I first contacted Shawn Belmar of Cape Construction & Roofing on 4/18/23 about replacing the roof…read moreon the 2 story part of our 1- 1/2 story home. He provided a bid the next day via text. I asked for start date. Said it would probably be next week. I informed him via text on 4/27 that the 1 story part of the house was now leaking & asked if he could bring enough shingles & had time to roof the whole house. He measured the additional roof on 4/28 & gave us a bid on 5/1. He said he would be down on Friday, 5/12, to start the job. I texted him on 5/11 to confirm. He said that rain was forecast & they would do it Wednesday, 5/17. He texted me Wednesday morning, stated they had another job to finish but PROMISED to come the next day. At 9:30 on Thursday, 5/18, Shawn texted that the shingles were on the way to our house. I asked if he was too. He answered that he had a doctor's appointment but his guys were on the way. At about 10, an SUV stopped in front of the house. I went out to greet them. No one got out of the vehicle. Instead, they turned & drove away. They came back shortly, & two Mexican guys got out & walked down the driveway next door looking at our roof. Because we didn't have a contract, I asked if they had one. They pretended to understand & speak virtually no English. By then, the semi truck loaded with all our roofing materials & an elevator had arrived, completely blocking the street. The driver wanted to know where to put everything. We had no idea & the 2 employees just got back in their car & drove away. I called Shawn & told him what was going on. He said his employees were headed to another job (no explanation why). I told him to get them back here. He told me where the shingles needed to go, & I told the truck driver. When the employees came back, the driver went over to their vehicle & told them he needed them on the roof to unload the shingles off the elevator as he loaded them from the bottom. They immediately turned around & drove away again. When I called Shawn to tell him what happened, he said his employees told him someone yelled at them. I told him that no one had yelled at them. He called me a liar, said I could find someone else to replace my roof & hung up on me. He failed to answer the phone after that. Thank God that he had required no money up front.
