The best BBQ I have had and I am from the south!…read more We tried the Full Texas (has all of the meats) with the potato salad, mac and cheese, cornbread, and a lemon curt tart. The tart was tangy, bright, not too sweet, and the bottom wasn't soggy at all. Excellent! As for the BBQ, all of the meats were so smoky and melt-in-your-mouth flavorful! I wasn't expecting to like the chicken, I typically go for brisket, but the chicken stole the show. It was moist and so full of flavor! Definitely my favorite! Closely followed by the brisket, then the ribs, then the pulled pork, and last, but not least, the chorizo/sausage. I also really liked the chimichurri sauce as well as the addition of pickles and pickled onions. They paired really well with the BBQ. I preferred the golden bbq sauce a over the classic bbq (sweeter and too smoky for me). Honestly didn't love the mac and cheese. It was a bit bland and would not recommend or order this again. However, the BBQ and everything else was so good that it makes up for the faults of the mac and cheese. Cornbread was solid- on the crumblier side and not sweet at all. I prefer my cornbread sweeter, but this was still good cornbread. I was pleasantly surprised by the potato salad on the other hand. I don't like potatoes in general because I find them to be too bland and chronically underseasoned. Much to my surprise, I rather liked this potato salad. I loved the addition of dill and green onions. This was really good with the BBQ. The interior is a bit lackluster and the building is unassuming. Everyone there was really friendly and helpful when deciding what to order though! Overall, I would highly recommend State Eatery! Incredible BBQ!

However, the smoked meat is so flavorful! I would put this in the top three of all bar-b-q places I have eaten, and I've been too many, many, all across the South, in Texas, in the west and the Midwest and in the east. Who would have thought I would find such a great place in NY state. I loved the pickled onions, they go great with the meat. The. Coleslaw was better than most. Sorry we did not try the pastries. Prices were very reasonable.

To continue with my birthday celebration, Joseph suggests we come here to try the food. What a good choice! For my soup base, I choose the mushroom broth. It comes with light green onions and a touch of cilantro. By itself, the mushroom broth tastes delicious. From the menu, I pick the various mushrooms, broccoli, bok choy, watercress, shrimp and sole filet. It tastes like a feast! Joseph orders the meat selection which contains coby beef, and brisket. He orders the lotus root for me. In the back, Hot Pot Meets BBQ set up a sauce station. This station features various Asian sauces such as soy, cilantro, bbq, ponzu sauces. In the middle of the station, customers can choose various fruits such as pineapple and green melon. Near the end of the station, the staff sets up a seafood tray. The tray includes a mixture of shrimp, mussels, and cut corn in the cob. The wait staff explain to us of how to order the food. I give the wait staff an A+ for their service. The servers notice all the goes on in their restaurant. They quickly answer our questions. A fun part of dining here: Hot Pot Meets BBQ uses a robot to serve and take finished trays back. That deserves a star. Come and bring dates, friends, or even family.

We would have loved a place like this when we were on campus. This is probably an Ithaca 5. As in, for where you are, this is a good spot. When evaluating this place to a comparable offering in a bigger city, and it falls short. Staff were awesome. They came by when asked and were great. My favorite part of the entire place is the tablet ordering. I love places like that. You're not left waiting for someone to hopefully come by. Even refills and the check can be requested through the tablet, and that's great. As for the options on tbe menu when it came to BBQ, I wish they were a little better. The marinated meats lacked a little something that would take it to the next level for flavor. I found myself wishing for just a tiny bit more, but that's in comparison to coming from a bigger city with plentiful options. They had a self serve area with some foods and dessert. That was great as well.

It's one of those places where you need to know exactly what to get to have a good experience. If you want the perfect affordable meal for two people (they note two but honestly if your friend group is small backed like us, three might also do the trick), head on right over and try their casseroles. If you want to perfectly replicate our experience, try their Boo Dae Jeon Gol, better known as Korean army stew (for curious folks and my fellow food baddies, definitely check out this link about the history of this sexy dish: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budae-jjigae#:~:text=It%20also%20goes%20by%20the,stew%2C%20and%20spicy%20sausage%20stew.&text=The%20dish%20has%20its%20origins,Korea%20was%20experiencing%20significant%20poverty. ) It's not a healthy meal for sure nor is this the best budae jigae I've ever had (quite bland for what it is) but omg, it's definitely THE ONE where you can have the most bang for the buck. They have an massive hotpot pan just for their casseroles. My friend and I, both very hungry college students, literally could not down this thing. The menu also mentioned to "share with my people" but perhaps it was a warning all along. The soju here is pretty expensive per bottle, which is a bit of a letdown. However, I do like their green grape soju and the specific brand that they have; it doesn't have that alcohol taste upfront, which is arguably dangerous. Will I willingly come back? Probably notttt, heh heh. There are better places out there to spend your money and time. Nothing about the food or the atmosphere really wowed me. It's just okay for a casual meal, but it didn't leave a lasting impression.

Banchan was very basic but home made and not too bad. Soondubu jjigae with beef was pretty good. Beef was bulgogi I think (Korean marinated beef) which is kinda weird but it worked. No raw egg to put in the soup though. But it was spicy and good. Jjajangmyun was okay but I imagine this is the only game in town for that dish so you have to give them credit for having it. Tangsuyuk was the star though. It was freshly fried and crispy. Make sure to ask for sauce on side. Ambiance is absolutely zero. LOL. They have tables and they were clean I give them that.
