Kinda strange place. Its main dishes are Korean Chinese like jjajangmyun and tangsuyuk but they also have some Korean dishes like soondubu jjigae. Banchan was very basic but home made and not too bad. Soondubu jjigae with beef was pretty good. Beef was bulgogi I think (Korean marinated beef) which is kinda weird but it worked. No raw egg to put in the soup though. But it was spicy and good. Jjajangmyun was okay but I imagine this is the only game in town for that dish so you have to give them credit for having it. Tangsuyuk was the star though. It was freshly fried and crispy. Make sure to ask for sauce on side. Ambiance is absolutely zero. LOL. They have tables and they were clean I give them that. No AC so probably best to order delivery in the summer. The owner is Korean Chinese and very nice. Mediocre Korean food. They seem understaffed. The ban chan was not good. There only seemed to be one person waiting on all of the tables, so we didn't have water for a large portion of the meal. I ordered the kimchi jigae as a main- it was fine. Definitely an improvement from the ban chan, but not spectacular. Overall, I would probably not return. read more

Decided to come here for some Korean food in Ithaca. We ordered spicy rice cakes and spicy squid over rice. The waiter seemed to be a bit confused on what we ordered. The spicy rice cakes were not good. The spicy sauce they were in tasted a bit too thick and too sweet than normal. The rice cakes were also a bit stale and not chewy. Unassuming hole in the wall korean/Chinese place in collegetown. I've been several times in the past, but today was the first time I had to wait for a table. The wait was pretty short, though. We ordered the special fried rice and two stone pot bibimbaps. Everything came out quickly and piping hot. The bibimbaps had an over easy egg on top. I loved that the bibimbap came in a hot stone pot because the rice got crispy at the bottom. Everything was flavorful and the bulgogi meat was tender. This is a no frills korean restaurant that gets the job done and serves solid food at reasonable prices(in big servings!). I will definitely be back. read more

I've visited a couple times during my lunchtime at work. Location is convenient, staff is attentive, service is prompt... and hey, when I'm craving bulgogi? It's nice to have a place so accessible. The only downside I would say is that some of the dishes are certainly more expensive than I'd expect. The bulgogi is just under $19. Most dishes seem to range between $12.95 and $17.95. In terms of taste, the dishes are fairly generic in taste... I've had better, I've had worse. Again, it's a matter of convenience and wanting to appease a craving for a particular dish. read more

Favorite place to hit up for Chinese-Korean food- or at least the best 3 dishes they have to offer (in my humble opinion). Pictured here are the black bean noodles and sweet and sour chicken (jjajangmyun, tangsuyuk). I've recently came back from Korea and I'd say that they're both pretty authentic and tasty. A bit expensive for the tangsuyuk, but share it with a couple friends and it's definitely worth. Not pictured here but also a fave is the jjampong (seafood soup). Portion sizes are great-- don't expect too much service here, but it's part of the charm! read more

The food was really good and the owner was very nice. He came over to our table and explained to us that there was a new chef who didn't use MSGs in the food. He gave us some kimchi jjigae on the house to try, and true to his word, it was very good and tasted like home cooking. I would recommend the kkanpoong shrimp, kimchi jjigae, and jjamppong the most. The other things on the menu are great as well but those three are my favorite. The kkanppong shrimp is especially crunchy and tasty, and I think even those not familiar to Asian food would enjoy it as well. read more

I had a ok experience here the first time eating korean food so I haven't come back in a while. But a friend recommended the Mala Xiangguo here so I came back, and it was pretty good. The corn pancake was also really good dipped in condensed milk that we asked for. The owner is super nice and tried to make our meal the best it can be. A little better than Four Seasons (hence the 2 stars), but still very underwhelming food. I'm not sure what is up with the Korean restaurants in Collegetown. Almost everything on the menu doesn't use real Korean ingredients such as ground up dried red chili pepper or paste. They try to substitute with chili oil and it tastes more like those imitation Panda Express pop ups at the mall than anything Korean. The dishes that somewhat resemble the food it should actually taste like... their jjambbong... have tons of MSG. My advice is to go to the Korean market and just buy the pul-moo-won refrigerated noodles and food. It will be much better and actually more healthier. read more

Severe hygiene issues. I watched the waitress clean the window using Windex using her bare hands and then, without washing her hands, handle food. When she cleared the plates from one table, she would set the large dirty plate tub on the adjacent table. That dirty plate tub looked filthy. When the next party came in, she sat them at the table that just had the tub placed on it, and the table wasn't wiped. Food wise, their banchan (Korean side dishes) is abysmal. They don't serve cabbage kimchi; instead, there is a weird-tasting daikon kimchi, along with various others that are scrapped together. If you can tolerate these issues and various others, their Soon Doobu Jigae is better than Koko's and Four Seasons'. read more

I had high hopes for this place because of its four stars rating. I was craving for Korean style Chinese food. The staff appeared to be Chinese, not Korean. They also have extreme limited English, which made it difficult to order. I ordered three basic dishes for a Korean style Chinese restaurant: fried dumplings, chajangmyun and champon. The dumplings were obviously not home made. They were frozen packaged dumplings. To make matters worse, they burnt the dumplings, making the skin dark and crunchy and dry. Chajangmyun was also not home made. It was also from a package. I know it well because I have had that package chajangmyun before. Fine for $5 package food. Not fine as an $8 dish at a restaurant. Champon was unremarkable and bland spicy soup with noodle from the same package chajangmyun that I had just tried. And they added broccoli into the soup. What champon place does that? Not authentic at all. For nearly $13, I expect much better. The service was fair but the cook kept loudly shouting Korean-Chinese mixed swear words at the waiter throughout the dinner, ruining further an already unpleasant dining experience. Between multiple "mother----cker" and other choice Korean swear words, I just felt sorry for the waiter. Avoid this place like the plague. read more

The service wasn't great (slow, mixed up food, etc.), the soft tofu soup just tasted all wrong and weak (besides, I didn't realize it had large chunks of both zucchini and onions, neither of which I like), and the chopsticks were so soft they felt like they were rotting. The owner/waitress that works here is absolutely the best on service. She's super sweet and nice. This place is good for lunch, since their lunch specials save you about $1-5 on certain dishes but I'd consider it a bit expensive for dinner. JaJangMyun - best dish by far and definitely worth it for the amount they give. The noodles were super chewy and the sauce was extremely tasty and included a fair amount of pork. Bulgogi Lunch Special - not the best of dishes for someone looking for a lot of meat, that being said it still tasted rather good. typical bento box style, everything was pretty standard. the bulgogi was more of a stir fry with a lot of veggies than a typical kbbq. Budae Jigae - The soup itself was pretty good, definitely better and more spiced than the soondobu soup from koko's. Since the description included ramen I was expecting more of a ramen based noodle soup, but it's more soup with a bunch of random meats (include cut up hot dog(?) and vegetables with a splash of ramen). It did include a lot of kimchi though, so is definitely good for people looking for a kimchi type soup. Kimchi Fried Ramyun - definitely would not recommend getting this. The ramen was fried to the point of being more soggy, and again, there wasn't much ramyun, but an overload of kimchi. It also just didn't have a good taste overall. read more
