Kerry asked a lot of questions to help narrow down our options. She recommended several places to help us determine what size/feel would work best for our situation. Kerry set up the appointments for our tours and checked with us to get feedback. Our timeline for moving needed to happen sooner than we thought, and Kerry helped keep us on track. My father-in-law is happy with his new home and we appreciate Kerry's help.

Having her return home was no longer an option; which led me to quickly get to up to speed on senior living options, mostly on my own. I found her a place & moved her in all before her release. While I ensured her safety, I second guessed my decisions as she vocally struggled to adjust; it was a lot of change particularly for someone who rarely left her home. Almost 6 months in, a different set of doubts & worries took over. Did I make the right call, could she live somewhere more affordable, would she outlive her money, etc. I don't even recall what search term led me to Senior Living Experts, but I'm grateful. Rebecca listened to my story and made me feel less alone. She thought where my mom was at was the best option in terms of cost, desired location and care needs addressed, but would do the research and circle back. We also discussed the care she received currently and provided a few suggestions. As promised, Rebecca followed up and confirmed her initial assessment. Yes, I'll still worry about her finances, but I now have a better understanding of the landscape and what comes should her care needs increase. If I had a do over, I would have started with Senior Living Experts, they are amazing!

I have very mixed feelings about Riverside Courtlands. On the surface, the facility is beautiful,…read morewell-maintained, and offers appealing amenities for residents. The admission process was quick and efficient, and for someone who is largely independent and only needs minimal support, this could seem like a great option. However, once any level of real care is needed, serious issues become evident. The facility does not have an RN on staff -- only CNAs -- and during the night shift, the entire facility is often run by just two CNAs - not even a manager in charge. This lack of proper staffing creates a dangerous situation for residents who need more attention or might be at risk for falls. During our time there, falls were frequent, and one day alone saw three residents were taken to the ER due to injuries. I was constantly seeing residents with bruised faces, etc. walking around. The call button system is unreliable, especially at night, and response times can be worryingly slow. Often when they did have adequate staffing you could find 4-5 of the CNAs outside the dining room door congregating. This would be a good time to round with the residents who might not be able to go to the dining room. Nonetheless my loved one had a nasty fall and passed away the next day. I believe that fall worsened the condition at hand. Another concern was the pressure I felt to use CorsoCare for hospice services -- a provider located two hours away from our location. Unfortunately, that experience was far from ideal and felt more like a convenience for the facility than a benefit for us. I wonder if there is some sort of partnership between the two. In short, if your loved one is active, fully mobile, and doesn't require much in the way of assistance, this might be a pleasant place for them to live. But if they need attentive care or medical oversight, I would not recommend Riverside Courtlands. It offers a nice place to stay -- with meals, activities, and a roof over your head -- but very little in the way of actual care, which sadly did not support my loved one in their final days. Also, I will say the sales gal was SO nice and helpful during the sign on / move in process but once our loved one passed away we received not one condolence from any of the staff - not one. We received a bill and a notice to vacate the room. I found that very unsettling considering how nice and helpful they were to start.

Mom has a 'studio' apartment that is huge - and we could add as much of her own things from drapery, to pictures, to shelving to really make it her own home. The apartment decor is up to date (stainless microwave, if desired in her kitchenette) and everything is clean and fresh. Housekeeping is amazing, along with maintenance and laundry. Staff seem to have a great attitude. Always with a smile and willingness to help or answer questions. Some stop by just to chat, and see how your day is going. Aids, med techs and nursing staff are wonderful and well-trained. Concerns are listened to. (Former nurse with long term care experience here...) This is 'assisted' care. Loved one can refuse showers. Staff is WELL aware of things, and certain behaviors are spelled out in the month-to-month contract that avoid serious issues. This is not a nursing home. They assist you when you require help. Different licences and rules apply here than at other kinds of care places. Some residents have had hospice here, and then pass on. They don't kick you out if you are sick. Yet, this is NOT a memory care facility. If loved one declines that way, there are other local Vista facilities (Northview) that they can transfer to, certain things being in place (room availability, etc...) Food is very good - with a nice pub-type alternate menu choices. Room service meals are no extra charge. Guests can eat for a reasonable charge, just inquire at the friendly concierge. Everything (except onsite beauty salon) is included in the rent. No "care-level" add on costs if loved one needs extra assistance. Choice of doctors who specialize in elder care come to the facility... including blood draws. Activities are creative and varied (artists come and paint with residents on a project... flower arranging... song performances... animals visit...etc) lots of outings are offered in their own van/bus as well as any entry fees covered. Residents are welcoming, and very friendly. They come from all walks of life and most from middle class income levels. (This age group saved and invested, lived on less than they made, paid off their home, and some, not all, received some kind of retirement package... unlike today's reality.) I have never noticed or overheard any attitude of "looking down" upon any other resident from these residents. An outstanding facility, in my opinion, and worth checking into.

My mother passed away December 27,2021. She had been a resident at Vista Springs Holland Meadow…read morefor 4 years. She chose this location based on the Administrator at that time. The first year was very good. Then the administrator retired. During the next 3 years they changed administrators 4 times. The last few months they had two co-directors. The Wellness Director was the LPN in charge of patient care. The other Director was in charge of the Business office. I am an RN and have worked in various fields of nursing care for the past 30 years. I know that working with assisted living members can be a challenge. That is one of the reasons I made myself available to the staff for calls, assistance in care, etcetera with regards to my mother. My mother was 96 when she passed away. It was her choice to die with dignity. Therefore when her health declined, August 2021, we requested Hospice of Holland to assist the staff at Vista Springs. In November she became wheelchair bound so her care level increased. She needed assistance with all activities of daily care, such as bathroom assistance and she took all meals in her room. Both the Hospice RN and myself communicated frequently with the Wellness Director concerning my mothers requests and needs regarding care. December 19, 2021 I was informed by Hospice that my mother had not had a shower in three weeks. After communicating with the staff, talking to my mother, and making an assessment of her room, I sent an email to both directors. I requested that her clothes be changed daily, that she be given a shower twice a week with assistance, I would be taking her laundry home weekly and I was available for them to contact me with any questions. At that time I increased my weekly visits to two or three. I never received any communication from either Administrator regarding this email. December 27 I was with my mother from 8 am to 9:30 pm. It was evident that she was dying. The only time any aide came into her room was when I put a light on for assistance in moving her. The Wellness Director came in late in the afternoon to help move her up in bed. She seemed surprised by her condition and the fact that I was sitting at her bedside holding her hand. In my experience, as a nurse, when a patient was dying they were placed at the top of the list for care. The Wellness Administrators attitude was extremely disturbing. My mother died with family around her at 9:23pm. The next day my husband and I were there, cleaning out her suite for 3 hours. The only people who came to offer condolences or offer assistance was one of the cleaning staff and staff from the maintenance department. Neither Director spoke to us although both were in the building. Four years ago Vista Springs of Holland Meadows was known as "The Cadillac" of assisted living. That is no longer true. If the corporation does not take seriously who they place as Administrators they may someday be looking at a negligent complaint. Quality of care is directly related to training and appreciation of staff as well as effective communication with family and staff. One of the websites I looked at, after my mother died, had 28 reviews listed. As I read the reviews I noted that a number of the positive reviews were by staff and at least eight of those had been posted all the same week. To me, that is quite disturbing. The negative reviews were posted at various times and were from family members of residents. On other web sites there were negative reviews from staff posted at different times. Please be very diligent when looking for an assisted living home for your loved one. Susan W Holland, Mi.

They are always hustling to ensure that every need is met in a timely fashion. Being a small community of only 34 beds, the staffing ratios are insanely high! The staff have a great team approach and love to care for each community member like they would their own family. Even though the rooms are spacious and the layout is grand, it has a great close-knit community feel. We constantly have community members playing cards and games or enjoying another activity. We have a BEAUTIFUL courtyard and plenty of space for family to enjoy. There is even a full-service dining room for families to create a meal together, if they would like. We have a chapel for Bible study and Sunday services. Even management is very hands on as they get involved in care and activities such as the weekly manis and pedis. It really doesn't get much better than this. I would HIGHLY recommend Vista Springs Holland Meadows to anyone and everyone!

The story point staff managers are great and they are there to talk to and help with your situations but they don't do the carrying of your loved ones. MOST OF THE CARE STAFF IN ASSISTED LIVING ARE "TEMP"!!! They are people going through training. THEY DO NOT CARE OR EVEN ATTEMPT TO CARE ABOUT YOUR LOVED ONE. Some are foreigners and can't understand them. They have ZERO knowledge of anyones medical needs. When my dad was in memory care for a while and some of the girls would be sitting in the corner on their phones after 5:00. I was at this home every single day !!!! I know what went on. Just so you know the SALES women IS A GOOD SALES PERSON !!!!! Once you commit and she gets her commission she didn't have anything to do with me or my husband. So if you're just looking for a place to live and you don't need medical attention daily This may be the place for you. It's a beautiful building and has great entertainment. Let me be clear - the management staff is wonderful. The few ladies that have been there forever are wonderful.
