CCNY is a very corrupt college. Save your money, go to a better engineering college. undergraduate engineering programs are disorganized, unstable, & deeply discouraging. Core required courses are often only offered once a year, scheduled at the same time, or canceled without notice, making it nearly impossible to graduate on time. Expect delays and plan to stay at least 6+ years. advising system is just as bad. Advisors are uninterested, unhelpful, and sometimes give completely wrong advice. I was told to take courses that were later removed from the curriculum, forcing me to repeat classes I never should've had to retake. Professors & advisors often seem unreasonable and disconnected from students, they don't listen, and they don't care. Professors are another major issue. Many are unapproachable, inflexible, and play blatant favorites. If you're their favorite, you might pass regardless of performance. If they don't like you, even if you're doing well, you risk being failed. Your success here depends more on being liked than on merit & that destroys trust in the system. Another huge barrier: you can't enroll for next semester's classes unless you get special permission (an advising hold must be lifted). But by the time you get permission, all classes are already full. So you'll spend day refreshing registration pages and hoping a seat opens up. It's unfair and creates yet another structural disadvantage for students who don't jump through the hoops fast enough. I came here believing I could become an engineer. Instead, I left with imposter syndrome and a heavy amount of mental stress. When I tried to suggest improvements or offer feedback, I was met with hostility, not support. This environment doesn't just discourage growth, it punishes initiative and protects dysfunction. CCNY will give you anxiety, nightmares, and PTSD. If you're an engineering student, save yourself the pain. Make a sacrifice to study engineering at a better school: SUNY Buffalo, SUNY Maritime, or Farmingdale State are all much better options

Swimming is fun because it teaches you how to swim and you have free time on Fridays. (Warning... when you don't bring your swim suit, then you won't go swimming.) Another reason is you could play in the gym. You can play basketball. You could also play any game you would like. Also, there are special days like the Carnival, which they have each summer! The Carnival is really fun because of the bouncy houses, and your parents can come!!! Another special day... is when you get to choose the period for two hours and do what you like. It is really fun so you should be there! Butler Library and Avery Architectural Fine Arts Library have beautiful interiors that are ideal look for a historic college library, as well as the modern style of Engineering Library. Among them, I like Lehman Social Sciences Library the most, though I rarely take SIPA courses, there is a microwave on the sixth floor of the building to heat meals, and small self-study rooms, which is very suitable for spending a whole day reviewing for exams and writing the thesis. One of the great things about the Columbia Library is that you can find almost every kind of study space here. Study on the second-floor mezzanine, study in the quaint rooms with low light, study in the small rooms like telephone booths, study on the edge of the numerous bookshelves... They have desks in almost every corner of the library, and you can always find a study atmosphere that attracts you.

Unless you like to see from outside this historical buildings OR you'll ask friends who're related to Colombia Univ such as teachers or students. it's not so worth to walk around surrounded by private security or NYPD. Unless you'll need to go to Columbia univ bookstore for survivors. If that you want, go there earlier they close around 5pm-6pm. White House level security here outside of Columbia univ. Spring 2026. if you really think boring in this neighborhood, just get a bus or train somewhere heading to midtown Manhattan or downtown manhattan in west village or something.

Barnard is situated across from Columbia and both campuses look like a shrine to academia. You can physicaly see the ivy growing up the sides of the walls, and you feel like you are automatically smarter for being physically present here. The faculty and staff were so helpful in developing my skills. I was here about 16 years ago and although I lived in NYC for a good chunk of my adult life, I no longer live in the city. But I sure make a point of walking through the campus to feel the nostalgia. (And then over to St. John the Divine to watch the peacocks, perhaps as I eat some pastries from the Hungarian pastry shop.) Thank you for being an essential part of my career, Barnard. With the exception of maybe one bad apple, all professors were clear and helpful in class and during office hours, as well as with internships and jobs. Everyone was receptive to both positive and constructive feedback. While I was on a satellite campus in Kip's Bay, I had access to some good and reasonably priced restaurants, and some nice parks, during study breaks. However, the building could have offered better internet access and more of a variety of snacks, however I still was able to get all of my work done prior to classes, as well as attend research presentations to network. I ordered the book on Amazon and I've read it three times. One of my favorite parts of SEP is part on Aristotelian world of shadows in the cave. SO DRAMATIC! Tragedy aND COMEdy at once, a perfect word. Prof Cyrus teaches about politics. Who to vote for? You might wonder, Pof. knows! Democrat, neoliberal, marks, capital, angles, you will learn it all. HUMAN RIGHTS!? Forget em'. Only problem with this excellente prof. Is handwriting too small. Can't see tiny letters on the chalkboard, and even smaller when he writes on paper. I took a winter course so I only know about Hostos before covid and briefly however, I was there…read morefive days a week so I'm valid enough to make a review. Right away 99% of the population is Dominican except for the staff. The class I took was very very simple and easy for it being Anthropology. This is a foundation kind of cuny so you'll be running into everyone you know and pass with flying colors if you just show up. The train station in front of the school is always packed so be aware of that and try not to go within rush hour. The police is always at the station which confirms with me that the area isn't the safest as it is in the south Bronx. Overall I recommend it seem really chill as Dominicans are lit ass ppl I feel as if it can be a good time when spending a semester there.
