This place reminds me of a classic department store - all the departments with all the products but without the glam. Staff here aren't as dressy, they are friendly in a comfortable way. There weren't much of a men's department. The home department didn't have much utensils and selections of kitchen appliances. I love Boscov's. Ok, so this location is not the newest, but it fills me with fond childhood memories every time I walk through the doors. If you are looking for great deals and a good selection of items you can find it here! They have everything from women's, men's & kid's clothing to holiday decor, kitchenwares, luggage, and even furniture! I got my mother-in-law hooked on Boscov's when we were in town for the engagement party and she continues to order from their online shop. The clothes are surprisingly great quality for how little you pay. Brand names at a fraction of the cost (I sound like a commercial, but it is true). I've always loved visiting this particular Boscov's, which is a very charming older building. The store is situated between four floors with escalators and elevators to carry you to whichever floor you need. There's ample (but narrow) parking. You should be able to find just about anything you are looking for here with great prices. I've found that store associates vary from very friendly and helpful to temperamental with a scowl on their face that makes you afraid to approach them with a question. This review is for the Wilkes-Barre Boscov's oy. In it's heyday, Boscov's was a great place to shop. But if you've been in there recently you know that Al Boscov has done little (if anything) to upgrade this store. For a store bordered by two colleges and has a high school nearby they carry very little up to date, trendy merchandise that would appeal to college aged shoppers. I don't know if the buyers are ancient themselves but most of the apparel in the store is geared towards senior citizens. A serious complaint I have is the Juniors section. They have an area called "Career Wear". As a Career Counselor there is not an item of clothing in that area that would be career appropriate! Low rise pants, mini skirts, low cut blouses, sequins & sparkles are club wear, not career wear. The management does not make the store comfortable for shoppers either. No matter what time of year you are there, it is so hot in parts of the store that you can't stand being in there.its actually hard to breath its so hot! It's been that way for years! Can't they get the ventilation system fixed? Or is it purposely so hot because all of the employees are so old and cold all the time. As a 40 year old career woman I never find any clothes here that are appropriate to my age, career or taste. Who actually buys polyester and elastic waist pants? The only good thing about Boscov's is that when they have a sale, you can get some great bargains, if you can find anything you want to buy. This store needs some younger employees and young mngt to bring the store into the modern age and to provide merchandise that will lure in the high school and college students, thats what will bring the business in and help the store make money! Caer to the local demographic! You've got them right outside your door, going to the Movies 14 adn Barnes & NOble, Hardware Bar, Rodano's....Downtown Wilkes-Barre NEED a decent department store and Boscov's COULD be that with a little effort. I did spot one really creepy mannequin, but I do think they are quite intriguing to look at. As for the clothing department- this is really as good as it gets. I love that items on discounted racks are actually discounted! Having shopped at hot ass mess macy's stores, this was incredibly refreshing. I got about 4 dresses, some leggings, and a sweater for a little over $100. A bargain if I've ever had one. Furthermore, the quality of the clothes cannot be beat. I went to Ross shortly before coming here and the difference in fabric quality is like night and day. So why not have the better quality for the same price. Can't wait to Boscov again! read more

Not a fan of this department store. I have found a few nice sweaters there but most clothing is overpriced and ugly. The lower floor features absolutely terrible diner food. The service is extremely poor and I've waited an insufferable amount of time waiting for my meal or check. The restaurant usually isn't crowded, but the waitresses are so slow that the food is still usually cold by the time it reaches my table. Sit at the counter if you want to have a meaningless conversation with the dregs of society - this is the place where they all hang out. The Wilkes-Barre store became a Boscov's over 30 years ago. When Boscov's bought it from its previous owners, they put some major money into it. Problem is in the 30 years since they haven't put one dime into the upkeep of the store. This is the dumpiest of all Boscov's stores. Horrible lighting. Slow to non-existant service (you'd think the staff would have to retire or die off eventually). If you see something in a sales flyer that's on sale at Boscov's head down to Hazleton or up to Scranton. Both of those are modern stores. In the Wilkes-Barre store it's still the late 1970s. read more

i LOVE boscov's. i remember going here as a kid with my mother and being so entranced by the disney / strawberry shortcake etc paintings in the kid's dressing rooms. i went back here the last time i was in pennsylvania and they were still there, that made me so happy. anyway, this place has pretty much everything you could need. clothing for all ages, a lingerie floor, a restaurant, a home decor area, stationery, an ice cream parlor, beauty supplies, toys and they used to have a pet shop but i think that's gone now. oh and escalators. hello, escalators! i love those. if i ever become a business lady and i live in pennsylvania again this will be my #1 place to shop. read more

When I lived in Rockland, I visited the Boscov's quite often. It was a lovely store with good prices. That place shut down a while ago and this was my first trip to a Boscov's in a while. The store takes you back in time. You feel like you are back in 1982. I love the candy department and the smell of chocolate. The narrow and noisy escalators were amazing. Seeing a restaurant in a department store caused a rush of memories of a Bamberger's of years gone by. The "basement" was a lot of fun to walk through. I hear there is a modern store in Scranton, but this one was just fine. read more

Horrible disgusting aweful. This place is gross and nasty. Service was wretched. Ordered classic grilled rueben. Got a turkey sandwich. When I finally got the rueben it was smothered in globs of dressing when I specifically told her the waitress NO DRESSING. I ordered the beef gumbo soup instead because by this time my lunch hour is over and my friend is done eating. Soup was absolutely sickening. Looked and tasted like vomit. Then the waitress charged me for the rueben that I didn't even touch. Sorry waitress free rice pudding is not bringing me back to this cesspool. This is for the restaurant in Boscov's not the store review. My wife and I went there about 5:15 pm one evening to have a nice quiet dinner. We sat at their counter area and ordered their Hamburger specials. It came with fries and a drink for $9.49. We got mozzarella sticks and she got coleslaw for an appetizer. The waitress brought those 2 things out and our drinks. We got meal and it wasn't what or how we ordered it. My wife's burger was medium well and mine was well done. Which should have been the other way around. So, we mention to the waitress when she came back about 10 minutes or so to see if everything was okay. We stated "The burger wasn't cooked fully." She stated "Well we cant put it back on the grill!" And walked away. She came back a few minutes later and took the burger and said "I will fix it for you." We said okay and she walked away. About 5 minutes later she always back with check and says "I took $3.00 off the bill." I waited a bit and my wife asked if I was ready and I said "No! Your burger isn't here yet." She goes they're not making a new one. So, I said I guess no refill on our drinks either since they been there and she's been back 2 times already. And she said probably not. So we went to leave and the waitress was checking us out and I asked to speak to manager and she said there was none. She says was there a problem. I said of course there was but, nothing can be done now but, would like to just pay regular price for the things my wife are it would probably be cheaper than just you taking off $3.00. She said "Probably not but, I will see." and it was $6.00 cheaper and she got upset because I was right. I said I understand you can't put it back on grill but, you should of said was I'm sorry let me get another one made for you right away or I can take your meal off bill but, you didn't you were upset because it was an issue and just like when a customer and her 2 children walked in 10 minutes before you close you tell your co-worker you didn't take the sign down quick enough. I then was told by her well since this is your first time here you won't be back so I'm just going to take it all off. I didn't want that and she said no you weren't satisfied so it's done have a good night. I just walked away and will say I won't be back due to this. Although the prices are great on most items the customer service is unacceptable. I have been spoke to by numerous employees in a manner that should never be allowed. I have brought it up with management several times and they have always acted like I was wasting their time. Our family lives in Tampa, Fla. We visit my in laws once a year, and this past June, we stayed in Wilkes Barre and visited the fabulous downtown store. I am not a typical woman in that I don't care too much for shopping. Nevertheless, I am like a kid in a candy store at the downtown Boscovs. We purchased clothing for my husband and son and granddaughter. We bought new luggage and walked it across the street to the Ramada Inn where we were staying. I love the idea of a basement, and we bought candy and other smaller items there. (there are no basements in the middle of Florida, since we are only a few feet above sea level.) I have never seen so much merchandise in one store. There is nothing that you don't carry it seems, and I absolutely love it. I have been in Boscov's at the mall, but much prefer the huge free standing one in downtown Wlikes Barre. I WANT TO SUGGEST THAT YOU START A STORE IN TAMPA, FLA. YOU HAVE GREAT BUYS AND DEALS, AND YOUR STORE WOULD BE VERY POPULAR WITH MANY PEOPLE HERE. I had so much fun in your store, except I realize you have some issues with erradic temperatures, but it is an old building. Downtown W/B is a very charming place, with the beautiful churches and old buildings. Florida is much more "new", but I could never live up north in the winters. It's much easier to live here. Al boscov is trying to get his stores back on track it will take awhile but he will do it. The store might not look beautiful because it is a very old building but the shopping is great it is even getiing better since AL Boscov took his stores back he has brought in new buyers and the quality of merchandise is getting better he has even brought in clinque. He will reface store one level at a time give him a break . Like everything else it was all about money when the other so called business man he turned it over to wanted to get rich quick and opened all those other stores.
