The main reason I decided to use Boss is that they claim to support vets. It was time for an AV tune-up. Website show AV tune-up may include; Check evaporator coil, Lubricate fan motor, Verify expansion valve operation, Clean evaporator drain, Check start and run delays, Clean blower wheel, Adjust bypass dampers, Monitor refrigerant level, Inspect valves, Check and clean drain pans, Clean or replace filters, Adjust operating pressures, Verify proper air handler operation, Tighten electrical connections, Evaluate safety controls, Measure amperage draw, Measure temperature difference, Clean condenser coil, Evaluate vent system, Calibrate thermostat, Check fan blades for tightness. What my tech did was first got lost with a GPS then only checked the start and run delays. Gave me a quote of $425. for replacing the hard start capacitor, (a $25 to $50 part & about a 15 minute job at most). Every tune-up the was done prior from other companies they cleaned Check evaporator coil, Clean evaporator drain, Check start and run delays, Clean condenser coil, Evaluate vent system, and Clean or replace filters. When calling to make an appointment, if you like A.I. phone system you'll love calling them. If you hate playing phone tag or have PTSD this is not the company to call. I call them back a day late to speak with a manager, again got their ARTIFICIAL intelligent phone system. I had these guys install a mini split system. I bit off more than I could chew with it. they did me a favor and helped me get it installed at a really good rate. They had some installers who were new come out to do it they did a poor job and there manager was really defensive of them, stone walling me about the poor install. my mini split system started acting up in the spring I feel like I was assumed to be a shady entitled person based on the previous teams documentation but I finally got a hold of the owner and expressed every interaction with them. He apologized informed me that the team that was out here in the fall as well as the belligerent manger were no longer employed with boss services. and that they would have there best squad out there to help square things up . Used too small of a part on plumbing issue ($1,000 job) & because we did not figure it out til JUST pass the 1 yr warranty, did not stand behind it. They would change it but at our expense (again). It was not a warranty issue. It was a wrong part and we hired them for their expertise. But they expected us to know what was wrong when the water pressure dropped so badly. They no longer have that svc. But we dropped our membership and cannot recommend them at all. read more

Shop around. The staff were great but their prices are beyond excessive. Our furnace went out and they told me repair would be $1000. Five minute internet seach and I found the part for $180. A pair of pliers, socket driver and 15 minutes I fixed it myself and it is working like a charm. Their sales guy quoted me $6800 to replace furnace. Another five minutes and I found reputable wholesaler selling more efficient furnaces of the same brand and BTU rating for $1700. Install isn't free and they need to make some profit but $5000 for a couple hours work slotting the new one into place? I think not. If you want to get skinned go with Boss. If you can only afford to be sheared find someone else. read more

Leaking pipe ruined my basement shower. I called boss out to replace it with an upgrade. Brandon arrived with a binder filled with all of our options. There were several items to choose from, in style, color, finishes. Parts were ordered, and arrived 4 weeks later. When rich came out to install he was very upfront about the manufacturer sending the wrong items. So we had to re order and postpone the install. Kaley called to apologize and to let me know Rich was headed to Chicago to pick up the correct parts, ( so we didn't have to wait another 4 weeks) and would we be good to install the next day. Next day Tim came in to finish the tearout ( I had started ) and set the base and run the plumbing. The following day the shower was complete. Tim ( and teammate) stayed late on Friday to wrap it up. It is beautiful, hot, and leak free which we have not had since the original was built.Also literally half the price quote by kohler, for nearly the same shower. Did a quick yelp search and found Boss, then I did a Google search, and also a Facebook search (I like to be thorough ok?). I reached out to them via FB messenger and got a very fast response. They told us there would be a $150 consultation fee for an after hours call, in addition to the work they'll be doing. They were able to come in within the hour, which was a huge plus. Jerry and Travis were transparent about the costs and discussed various options to go about solving our problem. Our heat went out Monday night. We called Boss Services at around 9:45 when our temp in the house started dropping. We told them not to bother coming out that night as we would just bundle up to sleep. First thing Tuesday morning, Hunter arrived and stayed for quite a while trying to find the problem. Turns out, our furnace just had to be reset because it had shut itself off - power glitch, wind, who knows? He showed us how to reset and then did not charge us!! We are thankful to have a contract with such an honest company that keeps clients' best interest in mind. Thank you, Hunter! And thank you, Boss! read more

VERY poor professionalism, VERY poor customer service. The repair guy was mouthy, had an extreme anger problem and absolutely no personality that showed ANY ability to have a professional, friendly and personal relationship. That guy should NEVER be in any ones home or even on their property. When I questioned a furnace part that suddenly went bad while HE was working on the furnace, he totally lost it. As a customer I would think an honest explanation is in order when everything was working fine prior to his working on the furnace. Instead, he acted like a 8 year old throwing a temper tantrum; slamming doors and peeling out of my driveway. The service manager was no better, making it sound like it was my fault he was acting like a child when I called to complain about his behavior. To top it all off, they charged me full price for the labor on replacing the part that was working fine before he started working on the furnace. BEWARE!!!!!!! read more

My water heater burst. They were professional and courteous when they came for the estimate. However, they were $1200.00 more expensive than Lowes. Additionally they tried to put me on a "Freedom Plan" where I paid $48 a month for the water heater over a period of 10 years. This increased the total cost of the project they quoted from $3100.00 to $5700.00. Included in their estimate was a $600.00 water heater that normally carries a 6 year warranty. However thier "Freedom Plan" extended the warranty to 10 years. The only advantage: They would do it same day. Got the water heater purchased and installed for $1800.00 with next day installation. In short, I felt extorted by my emergency situation. Ironic. read more

We signed papers to redo two bathrooms in early July 2023 and they were finished December 2023. We were told it would be 4-6 weeks. We had one functional bathroom over Thanksgiving for 7 people. Installers are good but they receive no support from the office. We found the supervisors had no idea what was happening in the field and the manager was beyond rude. Beware borrowing money from who Boss recommends because you have no control over when your money is released - even if the job is not finished. For less stress hire someone else. read more

Easy and quick check up for HVAC system scheduled, punctual and friendly, knowledgeable. Unfortunately, sloppy on the details. 1) left the system switched off, while it was on when they started, 2) re-inserted the furnace filter the wrong way around, 3) left the humidifier in winter mode, while it was in summer mode. read more

Their technicians are courteous and professional. They always have timely availability in emergencies. THEY ARE EXCESSIVELY EXPENSIVE! I've used them twice within the last 10 months. Last year our basement solid waste sump pump went out. Last week I asked them to install a new utility tub faucet I purchased to replace the original one, Replace a shower valve/cartridge in our shower that had poor flow and was leaking,Boss had to purchase a new Delta Shower valve, cartridge and shower head. Boss won't tell me what they paid for the shower replacement despite two specific requests but based on the internet it cost around $200. Their bill for the two installation last week was $1,770! I approved the price/repairs each time primarily due to the fact that the water was shut off in the house and the prior valve was stripped when it was disassembled. My options were to have them replace or gop without water in the house until I could have someone else source the parts and install. Just like the pump replacement last fall their strategy seems to be to disassemble the old part and leave you the option of finding someone else to complete the process or go without. I fully expected to pay about $600 for the most recent installations but was shocked AT THE $1,770 price tag. When I asked to talk to the owner I was told he rarely comes in and that I could talk to his Director. When I asked the director to help me feel better about the cost I was told that plumbers are expensive these days. I was also told that they don't charge for time and materials like everyone else. Instead they charge some type of average charge for the specific type of project at hand. That means to me no matter how simple the installation I'm paying a premium for more complicated work or for a variation in the quality of their people. I have not been disappointed by their people. The director did refund me a special discount of 10% to help me better. While I appreciate the discount I still feel fotally ripped-off and stupid for using this company. I've always wondered why their trucks and their signage shows what looks like a mafioso type on them and they go by the name of"Boss." After using them twice now...I get it! I called Boss Services Wednesday afternoon and I had an appointment set for a technician to come out first thing Thursday morning. Matt called at 7:45 Thursday morning to say he was on the way. Once he was here, he looked over the issue with the leak coming from my bathtub. I believe you should give home service companies Grace and give them a chance to make things right. It's a lot to handle when you service hundreds of customers each year, like I'm sure Boss does. However, home service companies also need to be held accountable with reviews when they cut corners and cease acting with integrity. Mistakes happen and 100% will happen with any services company. I have no issue with mistakes as long as they are fixed and the team owns up to the mistake, learns from it and makes it right with the customer. With Boss, there was a lack of ownership at almost every corner. On the phone, they blamed the issues on a salesperson that unexpectedly quit their company. He admittedly put them in a bad spot by not recording work performed in their internal software/CRM, but it doesn't change that he sold the work to us and we paid for it in advance. Boiler Work: Ongoing problems from May-December 2020. Inaccurate records of work needing performed despite paying for service in advance. Boiler still not working correctly despite a total of 6 visits from Boss, one of which was a no call, no show. On the first appointment, they had called and asked to reschedule which was no issue. On the day of the reschedule, no call no show. No apology or message from the Customer Service/Office team. After bringing it to the Sales rep's attention, he got someone out there. However, after the work was complete, they had only done a 1/3 of the work the Salesperson had agreed to and left a mess in the basement. When we called them back out, the Salesperson said he would do the work personally. After that visit, we still had issues and then learned the Sales rep had quit. They said they had no record of the work and that the they wanted to charge extra. On one showing for a potential buyer when selling the house, the Boiler sounded like it was going to explode (text an audio recording to their office) despite Boss having previously worked on it and telling us it was operational. We had to argue with the Customer Service person who was pointing the finger at the salesperson who quit and expecting us to deal with and pay retail for the repair. We eventually agreed to pay parts with Sarge. We were again assured the issue was resolved, only to then have another pressure issue. One pipe from the living room had sprayed black water build up on the ceiling and they left it! A buyer had walked through the house and said they were interested but the ceiling appeared to have Black Mold on it because the showing happened after the tech had worked on it and left the mess. When we called, they wanted to charge for another service call and made no offer to make it up to us on the fact their technician left spray on the ceiling. They said they had fixed the issue, but then we found out the master bedroom has no heat. They came back out and sent us another service charge at retail price as if it was not tied to their poor workmanship. In the end, rather than fixing their work, they told us they no longer wanted to service us as customers or our boiler. They didn't like being held accountable for poor work and wanted to paint the picture that it was us as customers that were the issue. Water Heater: We paid for a new tankless water heater, which is a big expense. On the day of the service, the team was rushed because they arrived in the afternoon but got it finished and it was working for a month. Then, when we had our first showing of the house with a potential buyer, the water heater was leaking Gas and NIPSCO shut off our gas until remedied. Boss tried to charge an emergency service charge until they realized it was their fault. They said they fixed it and Gas was back on. Then, we had another Gas leak again with potential buyers for the house. Again initially hit with defensiveness and another service charge until they realized it was leaking from their work again. read more
