Nate at Harbor Roofing not only provided a timely quote, but he gave me his cell phone and always responded quickly to me by text message. They have a gutter company that works hand in hand with them, so no separate contract is needed. Upon requesting services, knowing I needed this done quickly, Nate offered to work his crew over the weekend to help. Nate is a great guy, he comes from a family of roofers, and they are locals, so they know how to KEEP a roof on your house in coastal NC! Nate was recommended to me by my realtor which is a plus!

Wanted to share an unfortunate personal experience with a local roofing company - Harbor Roofing…read moreand Siding. I purchased my home towards the end of 2021 and the roof had been replaced by Harbor roofing prior that year. The roof was supposed to be under a 10 year warranty that transferred to new ownership and yet they've refused to repair the roof and resulting damage that the poor install caused. After weeks of pestering the owner to come look at the issue, he came out and gaslit me the whole time saying that it was due to the gutter (not possible based on the water damage that is appearing on the ceiling throughout the house), HVAC (the HVAC was in the crawl space and condensation could not have gotten on the ceiling from that), plumbing leak (no plumbing in front side of the house, nor does any of it go up through the attic- it's all under the house), etc. At one point I had to drive to the office because no one was returning my calls or emails or texts. When I was there, someone in the office said that the company was struggling and could barely afford to pay staff. Half of them were injured, etc. Not my problem. He refused to call the company's insurance for them to look at the roof and damages, which is even crazier. The owner is shady and the warranty is a lie. If you check, 95% of the 5-star google business reviews are from people that are related to or friends with the owner (not illegal, but doesn't make it right). All around horrible experience. I just want them to do the right thing and follow through with the warranty - having a new roof is the #1 reason that I purchased this house.

Where do I start? We hired JDW in Wilmington, NC to install a fence in October of 2021. The project…read moredid not begin until the end of December 2021 and it is still - technically - not completed in June 2022. I have given up hope on it ever being completed, but I will update my review if they repair it. I say technically not completed because it is paid for (which was my mistake) though neither of the gates are operational and the fence is falling over. The owner, David, outsourced the work to some very nice gentlemen from out of state who had never built a fence before. He told the gentlemen that he would be there to give them guidance on how to complete the task - be he did not. We showed him pictures throughout the process of things going a bit sideways, but he still did not supervise. Within days the fence and gates are not operational. The gates are literally falling apart. Add to that - the shadow box is missing pieces and does not appear to be professional work. While working, they nicked our gas line - which led to a very high gas bill [we paid that] - and tried to insinuate we should pay for the gas line repair [we did not pay for that] though they were the ones who did not mark the line. Though the concrete was not yet set and there were already documented issues, we were given a very sad story about how the nice gentlemen who worked their butts off in the rain with no supervision would not be paid unless we paid our bill. We were given written assurance that the current and future issues would be taken care of by a set deadline. Clearly, that did not happen. After 6 months of calling and texting, we have continued to receive the same assurances with no resolution. They have come out to assess the issues several times - but have yet to actually DO anything about it. We have logged dozens of calls and texts to their office - but they are no longer responding. I have never gotten an actual human being on the phone when I call, though I can now navigate their call menu like a pro. Based on their own assessments, the fence was not installed properly and the gates were not built properly. Despite their repeated promises that the issues would be repaired, there has been no actual attempt to correct the issues. I literally just went through my texts and saw 19 promises made to show up - and they were all missed. Some with excuses, most ignored. Zero stars. Would not recommend. (6/6/2022) -- Update: 6/16/2022 After I posted the above, someone came out to assess the issues. A week passed with messages left unanswered. After a week, someone showed up and they were able to get one of the gates operational and pour additional concrete to secure the leaning fence. It's been a week and is still straight - so that's an improvement. However... They missed 2 more deadlines and they seem to think they have repaired the second gate. They are now back to not responding to messages. They did not secure the second gate, so the post wobbles. They installed a very nice latch - on the wrong side the gate - so there is no way to get OUT of the yard, you can only get into the yard from the outside. To do that, you also have to use a work-around because the latch is installed on the wrong side of the gate [i.e., it doesn't work]. Once open, you have to lift the gate off the ground, because the post is loose and the gate caves into the ground once it's open. Also on that side, the hinges for the gate are missing screws and splitting the wood, so it's just a matter of time until the hinges fall off. We sent videos of the issues and have received no response.

We were connected to, JDW EXTERIORS in Wilmington NC, on 4/27/20, through HomeAdvisor. David, the…read moreowner, called us, charmed us, & gave an estimate. He even watered our plants! What a charmer! He sent a link to apply for a loan to fund the job & he walked us through the process to apply. He instructed us to send him a check for $4,246.66, which we did. He put a dumpster in our front driveway, weeks before the project was to start. This is a vacation rental home with potentially 4 vehicles or more needing to park. The day the dumpster was placed we contacted David & explained the situation, asking that it be moved to the back yard entry where there was ample room. Initially, David sent us a message saying he didn't believe the dumpster blocked the driveway. After sending him pictures & explaining how critical this was to our business if there was no parking, David said it would be moved in 2 days. It was never moved - it sat there for weeks blocking the driveway while no work was being done. We received a bad review stating the dumpster was a "HUGE EYESORE" that spanned across 4 international vacation websites & got no rentals for weeks after that in peak season. After sending David $4,246.66, & paying the set up fees & interest for the loan he had us obtain, JDW EXTERIORS did not show up on 6/6/20 as promised. David sent us a text & a picture of rain stating they couldn't work. Our local rental manager reported to us that there was no rain. We relayed this to David & asked him where he was & where did he take that picture? No reply received from David. After more messages from us he finally said "I don't believe those people" in reference to our rental manager's report of clear weather. Unbeknownst to David, we drove the 4 hours from our home in Charlotte to the site that morning & saw that it was not raining, had not rained, & there were no clouds, no thunder, only sun. We informed David of this but he continued to say things like "I won't send my men up ladders in the lightening." There was no lightning. It was a beautiful day. We continued to message David that we didn't understand what was going on. Then David changed his story & said he was working in another town where it rained & his tools got wet so he couldn't work for the rest of the day. Now David must think we're stupid as it was so sunny that any wet ladder or tool would have dried in 30 minutes max. So an entire company is going to shut down their business for a whole day because a ladder got wet? We are not idiots. We sent a message to David asking him to please call - after several hours he did. He basically relayed to my husband, they had big jobs that were more important & they don't typically do jobs like ours. Huh? Why did they take on our job if this is not a job they normally do? So basically what it boils down to is they had another more lucrative job they were working on somewhere else. David sent us a message stating they would come & get the small amount of siding they had delivered & mail back our deposit check if we preferred to cancel, & we could find another contractor. We asked him to please do the right thing & just do the work they promised. We stopped hearing from David. He would not respond to messages. The next day we notified HomeAdvisor, by writing a complaint & we emailed JDW EXTERIORS of this. Shortly thereafter that day, Johnnie, from JDW EXTERIORS sent an email stating they were "opting out" of our job. We immediately emailed a response telling them to remove the small amount of siding they delivered & the dumpster if they were not going to do the work. JDW EXTERIORS sent us a receipt stating we owed them a balance but they were going to waive it & just keep the $4,246.66 even though they did NO work. How can a company agree to do a job, take money, do no work, then cancel the job & keep the money. Now this is quite a racket! You could do this all day long & make a nice living, huh? We had put a hold on rentals that week for this job which cost us an additional $1,670.42. We will never know how much the bad review cost us in rentals. Reviews are one of the main driving forces behind vacation rental property revenue. We have texts & emails documenting EVERY interaction with JDW EXTERIORS from day 1 as evidence to our claim. We would like to know how JDW EXTERIORS likes having a review like this that potentially hurts their business just like they hurt our business & ripped us off. We are giving everyone who reads this message & those we come in contact with a very strong warning against dishonest, JDW EXTERIORS. My husband is a senior citizen at 74 years old & I'm a nurse working 13 hour days through the covid-19 pandemic. We want to warn everyone of companies who prey on the elderly & take advantage of others during difficult times - Companies like JDW EXTERIORS .
