Only wish I found them sooner. Suffered in pain with a foot wart and After just ONE laser treatment, one year worth of pain was gone within minutes. No really, minutes! I had an appointment here at 2:45pm. They called me about 5 minutes before the appointment to ask if I would still be there, I notified them that my GPS said I would be there right at 2:45, but I also needed a few minutes to park. She said that was fine. When I arrived, it was 2:56 (after parking and navigating to the 2nd floor). The receptionist asks if I am here for my 2:45pm appointment, I said yes. She looks at her watch, pointing out the time and lets me know that the doctor may not be able to see me. "It has barely been 10 minutes" I said. She tells me to hold on and she will speak with the doctor. The doctor is just steps away in another room, I can hear their conversation. The doctor says "Just put her in a room and I will look at it real quick" with an annoyed attitude. I politely left. I will not allow a doctor with that lack of care in her voice to perform any kind of care and treatment on me. The vibes of this place and that doctor were not good at all! read more

I went to Dr. Szpiro for nearly two years for a planters wart - and the wart is still there (albeit smaller). But she was incredibly unprofessional, would bad talk her staff in front of me, would blame them for her forgetting things and then the two big things were 1) she prescribed an ointment for me and when I told her at the next visit I wasn't using it she said "why would you have that medicine?" As if I prescribed it to myself! And 2) she was incredibly hostile toward me when I calmly asked her to clarify a bill that I received and she claimed I was trying to "get a free treatment" I had to calmly say to her "I don't know why you are getting so angry, I am just trying to understand my bill, which is my right" she the later apologized and then proceeded to throw her staff under the bus for misbilling me. Net/net I would not recommend her to anyone , which is a shame because she came highly recommended, but I think things have changed in the last few years. read more

I don't typically write reviews, but my experience here compelled me to warn others. I initially booked a consult with Dr. Bolla in August, which was easy to schedule, and she seemed knowledgeable and professional. Surgery was recommended, and I felt I was in good hands. However, from that point on, communication with the office staff was extremely disappointing. Every time I called, I got inconsistent information or just the runaround. Voicemails and portal messages went unanswered, and I had to call multiple times just to get any response. I repeatedly asked to speak directly with Dr. Bolla or to have her reach out, but I never heard from her again after the initial consult. Months later, one of the medical assistants finally called back, claiming the office manager had tried reaching out to me but I never returned her call--which is completely untrue. I'd reached out multiple times with no response. It's now November, and I'm still in pain, with no clear next steps. I would not recommend this practice. Save your time, money, and sanity, and find an office where you'll be treated with respect and actually get the care you need. read more

I was told to look back on the appointment schedule online to rebook. I got several texts, emails and calls confirming my new appointment. An hour before my appointment, the office called me to let me know she had a "family emergency" and had to cancel the appointment. I'd give zero stars if I could. I made an appointment for the first time with Dr. Bolla a few months ago for chronic heel pain. The appointment consisted of me getting asked generic questions by an assistant, getting photos of my feet taken that weren't used for anything, and then getting evaluated by Dr. Bolla for less than five minutes. Her assessment was to jab her finger into my foot and then tell me I had the most generic form of heel pain. When I tried to ask questions or tell her more of my symptoms, she was rude, cut me off and steamrolled the conversation. I WAS MISDIAGNOSED HERE. This podiatrist told me the solutions to my problems was to take ibuprofen, and I had to self advocate to receive a physical therapy referral. I then did two months of physical therapy that didn't work, because I was misdiagnosed. So frustrating to be charged a 100+ dollar co-pay for an assessment from this "doctor" that lasted maybe five minutes. Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere that will give you a proper evaluation. If you're having chronic foot pain, go somewhere else. It helped me to see Ripple Physical Therapy on Boylston since they gave me a full body examination to determine the source of my pain, and their first session only cost 50 dollars and lasted over an hour. Bottom line: Go elsewhere. Extremely unprofessional office- both the doctor and the front office guy. If you are having anything extensive done, they will make this far more difficult than it should be. From the office being located on the 2nd floor of a building without a ramp to get into the building for the patients on crutches (you'll have to hop on the stairs), to using Longwood MRI exclusively because she likes the small "cuts" the MRI radiologist gives her. This place didn't even use gloves to insert the dye into me for my MRI after she had just removed an IV from the guy ahead of me! They should be closed down by the health board. On your bad foot, you'll also have to be the FedEx delivery person because they put your MRI on a disk and you have to deliver it to her office. In the middle of two different appointments, she had to take a call from her "condo board" she said. BCP also repeatedly forgets to put "weight-bearing" on the x-ray orders so when you go to Mount Auburn Hospital for the x-ray, sometimes they never received the order from the BCP front desk and also, if they do have it, they don't indicate "weight-bearing" so you have to go back a second time to have the x-ray done once BCP has fixed the x-ray order. Right after surgery, on your newly acquired crutches, you will have to go to pick up your pain relief (narcotics) prescription at CVS because Dr. Szpiro doesn't know how to do this in the computer system so she has the resident at the hospital at Mt. Auburn do this for her. After having extensive surgery, at the six week mark post-surgery, the doctor walked in to take the pin out of my 2nd toe clearly in a bad mood. She never even looked at the x-rays that she ordered before my appointment and only did so after she had a hard time getting the pin out. She went to move my big toe to see the range of movement and yelled, "Of course it's going to be painful" when I was wincing in pain. I have a high pain tolerance so anyone would have been wincing with how aggressively she was moving it in her bad mood. She threatened me with having to go back to the OR to get the pin out of my foot at the 12 week mark (the next step of the recovery process) then backed off and said maybe we can use lidocaine. At the 12 week mark when I was celebrating the end of this difficult recovery process, the appointment was cancelled (a third cancelled appt. in the 6 months I saw her) because she got a COVID booster and had mono and was out sick the rest of the week. The following week she had a vacation planned. Since the pin had to come out, she contacted another doctor to see if he could take me and without fully knowing I had an appointment, took off on vacation. There were three patients she said that had urgent issues that had to be taken care of during the time she was sick. Instead of taking us on the following Monday when she was better and then going on vacation (this would have been the professional thing to do), she farmed us out to other doctor(s) and took off. By the way, the doctor who took the pin out knew it was a painful procedure so he gave me extra lidocaine- no OR needed. The front desk guy is totally incompetent- he will literally goof up every single thing he handles to the maximum extent it can be goofed up. As others have said radio silence on your emails to the office... unless they can make $ off an appointment for you. Also, this doctor will sell you everything for your recovery including a $500 ice machine (not covered by insurance) to a gizmo to get your toes moving after surgery (Dynasplit- very little covered by insurance despite their efforts to let you know that some of it will be covered... oh, and the salesperson for Dynasplit is a good friend of hers). Kickbacks? All in all, the level of professionalism from this office is ridiculous to say the least. Every step of the way was difficult from a slew of rescheduled appointments to goof ups on just about everything. She also must not write good notes in your chart because she never remembers anything she told you previously. The worst part of it is... I'm probably going to need another surgery because the doctor guessed wrong about how my foot would turn out. Just poor quality care and a poorly run office. read more

Since my original experience, Dr. Szpiro has reached out to me personally to both apologize and assure me that her staff has been reorganized. I'm highly confident that I'll have a much better visit in the future with more responsive administration, as Dr. Szpiro herself is extremely responsive and seems to have hired staff that aligns with her demeanor. While I don't know any details, I'm very happy with how this office has made amends. I saw Dr. Bolla for cuboid syndrome (a diagnosis I received from my ortho) and she told me I had an ankle sprain. Her diagnosis did not align with my symptoms but she refused to listen to my case (instead she had me tell my background to her assistant and then he relayed the info to her before she came in... not sure why we played this game of telephone?). She immediately got stuck on this misdiagnosis and was extremely rude and unhelpful. I saw another podiatrist a few weeks later who confirmed my diagnosis as cuboid syndrome and was able to treat it with the cuboid whip. I would not recommend Dr. Bolla as she does not take the time to consider your specific situation and symptoms. I wish I could give zero stars because it was a complete waste of time. read more

When I first went In for my appointment, everything was okay, I had an ingrown toenail that was acting up again - at first the Dr. only gave me two novocaine shots In my big toe, when in my first surgery in Chicago, I had been given three. Halfway through the procedure (removal of ingrown toenail both sides), they had to administer a third shot because the two didn't cut it and I still was feeling pain. She also dug around my toenail after I said I was in pain "just to make sure" even though I wasn't even looking at my toe, and said that this was pretty common during the procedure...If this wasn't enough discomfort I noticed after I got home that she had gotten acid on one of my other toes by mistake, and that it was blistering a bit. When I was on my way to the second follow up appointment, The office left me a message saying that the doctor wasn't in, and was it okay that another doctor was filling in, even though they wouldn't be familiar with my case? The only reason I'm giving two stars is because of their bedside manner, which is considerate for a doctor's office, and the cream they prescribed me for scaring/wounds works wonders. read more

They were very upfront about the treatments they used and the length of treatment I could expect. I am one or two sessions from being completely cured! This place was awful. I went here twice in the past six years to get a pair of orthotics (and a backup pair), and was told then the orthotics were strong enough to last a decade or even a lifetime. One of the pair I only started using about 9 months ago because the first pair was failing me so badly. I eventually ended up with a torn meniscus and other knee issues and was told by my surgeon and physical therapist that my knee problems may stem from my overpronation (which was evident to them and to me from the collapsed arch on my right orthotics), and that I should go see a podiatrist. Fast forward to two weeks ago, when I went in to BCP to ask about getting my orthotics repaired or replaced, and to also get an ingrown toenail looked at. While waiting in the waiting room with another patient, Dr. Szpiro absolutely berated an overwhelmed-looking administrative assistant for apparently telling a patient that their insurance wasn't accepted. She said that BCP never, under any circumstances, turns away a patient. This seemed a red flag, as I am wary of people who yell at their employees in front of other employees, and especially in front of their patients/customers. When I went in for my appointment with Dr. Szpiro, I found her curt and dismissive of my comments. When I told her I and my doctors thought that one of my orthotics was collapsed, she seemed to scoff and asked who had said that. I noted my physical therapist (who has a doctorate in PT), and she said "so not a real doctor", but then she took me more seriously when I noted my surgeon had the same observation. She admitted the arches had fallen on the right orthotics, and that that my uncorrected overpronation was likely what caused my torn meniscus. She then had a technician "fix" the orthotics to repair the arches. She then scheduled an appointment for me to return to have the ingrown nail removed. Today I went in for my appointment and to explain that my orthotics had once again collapsed (they clearly don't "last a lifetime")! I arrived at the site 15 minutes early, but didn't realise that it isn't possible to park within 5-10 blocks of the office on mornings of the third Mondays of each month due to street cleaning. After driving around for five minutes, I called the office to explain I might be 5-10 minutes late. The person on the phone told me that was no problem. After eventually finding parking and arriving at the office 9 minutes late, I was told by the administrative assistant that the doctor would not see me today because I was 10 minutes late. I saw her in the back make eye contact with me and then quickly leave the room. I explained to the admin that I had spoken to someone from their office who said it was "no problem" that I was 5-10 minutes late, but the admin said that was a mistake. I asked to speak to Dr. Szpiro, who came out, was rude, and seemed to blame everyone and took no accountability for her own business's mistake. She said it was my fault for being late, it was a technician's fault for giving me the wrong information over the phone, and it was "the other doctor's" fault for not coming in that day. Because she was the only doctor there that day, she said she was only able to do short appointments, and that mine was a long procedure (which makes me think they were never going to be able to have done my procedure even if I was on time). So, while publicly chewing out her admin two weeks ago because you "never turn away patients", she had literally turned away one of her patients herself. I told her I would find another podiatrist going forward, and she made no effort to try to change my mind or do anything on my behalf. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. read more

The office manager, Briannah, went out of her way to make me feel at ease before my appointment. I was a little embarrassed with coming in with a toe nail issue but she made me feel right at home. I was referred to Dr Szpiro by a friend who went to Boston Common Podiatry for foot pains. She's a professional triathlete, so I took her recommendation seriously. I called the office on Friday around 4pm and they were able to squeeze me in for a 3pm appointment on Monday. I showed up 15 minutes early for my appointment to fill in the new patient paperwork and the receptionist greeted me by name. Smaller waiting area, but I was the only one there and I had a feeling it never gets crowded. They are affiliated with MGH and as a past MGH patient, I found it neat to see that the appointment was pre-saved into my MGH Patient Gateway account (I didn't even tell them to do this). I only waited in the (very clean) exam room for about 1-2 minutes for Dr Szpiro to come. She was very pleasant to talk to and was interested in my back story leading up to my injury. She discussed conditions that it could possibly be and suggested taking X-rays right in the office to rule out the severe ones. After waiting maybe 5 minutes, the results were in and nothing major was wrong. As an active athlete, she gave suggestions to modify my current routine and did not pressure me into buying orthotics from them (which I suggested). Start to finish I was in the office for a full hour, which I was very pleased with because most of the time was spent consulting with me about how I could heal from this injury and prevent future injuries (yoga). Hopefully I will never have to come back here again, but in case a friend ever needs to see one, I highly suggest Dr Szpiro. read more

I had a great experience here. First I notice a lot of billing complaints in other reviews. In my first phone call to set up the appointment, the staff went over my referral requirements, gave me the NPI number and necessary information to make sure that would be taken care of from the start. I came here after a year of severe foot pain with an initial diagnosis of "I don't know what's wrong" from a prior doctor and plantar fasciitis. The curious pain turned out to be a neuroma, which Dr. Szpiro was able to feel immediately. (I did not have some classic symptoms, so the other office wasn't comfortable naming it.) I was already in PT so Dr. Szpiro quickly moved to next steps - steroids - and then a shot directly in the heel. I've heard those are supposed to be painful, but this was completely fine and I felt great for the following week. The initial relief has subsided a bit, but I am significantly better then when I first saw her. I have a few follow appointments and hope this will give me the relief I need to walk normally again, and get back into my favorite sports. read more

GOD AWFUL. Word of Advice: Go somewhere else. Anywhere else will be better than this horrible place. If there was a zero stars option, Boston Common Podiatry would earn it. Firstly, their Physician's Assistant is a complete liar & totally incompetent. Their doctor ordered an MRI for me, and their own Physician's Assistant was responsible for the insurance claim being denied because the PA provided 100% false information to the insurance carriers. That false information directly contradicted their own doctor's order. When asked about it, the PA (of course) denied the occurrence. When we read the verbal transcript back to the PA, they still denied it! ​ Secondly, they are 100% incompetent and unwilling to help. When we asked their doctors for help, radio silence. Nothing. Not even an acknowledgement to help sort out the approval for the MRI that their doctors ordered! I've been in EXTREME pain for the past 2 weeks and we were hoping to use the MRI to devise a long-term strategy plan. Third, they are 100% RUDE. After being treated there for over 8 months, and going there at least once a month, mostly 3 times per month, they can't even help out their own patient? And then they lied about it. Do NOT go to Boston Common Podiatry. Save yourself the hassle and use my lessons for your betterment. The first time I saw Dr. Spzira and she was great. Second time another Doctor who treated me unsuccessfully for fungi. I went to MGH Dermatology and was diagnosed with psoriasis in the feet. Third time I walked out before seeing anyone. Clerks, sitting behind a high counter were chatting constantly oblivious to patients sitting in the waiting room. I had a few different issues that make it impossible for me to recommend this practice. 1) The office staff is lacking customer service training. It was obvious when I was waiting in the office that they don't get along with each other and all the sniping back and forth made me uncomfortable. 2) I called to confirm a followup appointment and found out my appointment didn't exist! She just said, oh, sorry. Well, you can imagine how hard it is to reschedule then. 3) Then I get my bill and it's wrong. I've now tried to get it corrected for weeks but the person handling it only comes in on certain days and at certain hours--good luck with figuring out when. I visited Boston common podiatry a few months ago for an issue I was dealing with on the bottom of my foot. I saw Dr. Kurtz who took one look at my foot and immediately prescribed me antibiotics for "fungus." At this point I had already lost faith. First and foremost, that is NOT what I came in for. And it is extremely unprofessional to just start prescribing someone things without even asking if I wanted drugs, or felt like I needed them. I told her I work at a bar and my skin got a little damp from the night before. She took one look at my foot and said "hm, I don't know what it is..." great. Good start. I told her that the bump and skin keeps returning and even if I pick it off it doesn't go away. All she did was pick it off and told me to come back in two weeks. So with no explanation and antibiotics that I DID NOT need, because I'm still and will be infection free all I was left with was a 280 dollar bill. For what? No answer and for you to scrape the bottom of my foot? Needless to say I didn't return for my "check in" which is a nice way of saying "give me another $280" to pick the bottom of my foot. Yeah, I'm all set. A month later I'm learning for other professionals that it was a simple corn. A corn!!!! Do I have to say more? If she can't even see what a corn is, than I think you should stay far away from this place for your feet issues. They emailed and asked for my opinion and I expressed my concerns for the service I received and he price of the appointment. No one reached out, but I got an email saying "I hope we made this better!!!" Well you didn't, not even a little bit. And I'm disgusted that this institution and that doctor has my money. read more

My insurance company informed me that three weeks after I paid Boston Common Podiatry they submitted a claim to be reimbursed for the walking boot thus getting double paid for the boot. I recently purchase a Groupon for this place to have laser fungal treatment for 10 toes. I was skeptical given the reviews below, but at this point, I didn't have much to lose. I really don't understand how others had such poor experiences especially with their front desk. I called in, secured a time for an appointment 3 weeks out. I was told the procedure would take only 30 minutes and then was directed to a page on their website to fill out the preliminary questionnaire so I wouldn't have to when I arrived for my appointment. I arrived 15 minutes early for my noon appointment, the front desk addressed me by name as I walked in. Right at 12, Dr. S walked in and explained the procedure and what to expect. Before I knew it, she was finished and explained different products she suggests I use for the next few months to ensure my feet stay healthy. In this, she gave products they carried at the office and also over the counter stuff I could buy at CVS; there was no pressure or her insinuating only the products they carry work. When I was leaving, I looked at the clock; it was 12:25. This was only yesterday, so the effectiveness of the treatment is yet to be seen. You'll hear back from me in a few months it doesn't work... but I have all the confidence that it will. Service, timeliness, and overall, this was a great experience and I'd definitely go again if needed. read more

This is the first time I've ever been yelled at by a Doctor. First off, a podiatry appointment anywhere I've ever been has always been a fairly relaxing experience. Of the many doctors I see, it's the one where I have the least complications. When we got to the office, the check in process was fairly easy. We arrived about 20 minutes early. The doctor on the other hand was about 15 minutes late. I went with my husband. My husband has ALWAYS gone to every single doctors appointment with me since we've been married. I'm diabetic, it comes with the territory. The Doctor comes in and says "oh I didn't know there was two of you" and then proceeded on a rant about how her office staff should know better that she's not comfortable with two people. And that being intimate with the patient is "her preference.". Pablo started to get up and she ushered him to stay but just didn't understand why. My husband is a former Marine with medical training. If she had said it differently maybe I wouldn't be so taken aback but she scolded us and made both of us feel really uncomfortable. Not the best first impression. In sharp contrast, I've always been told to bring Pablo to my PCP and Endocrinologist appointments and he's been to other Podiatrist appointments before. It was ironic because she said something along the line of "you wouldn't bring him to a PCP appointment with you" - um, yes I do and it's encouraged. As a diabetic, the doctors typically use Pablo to gang up on me to take better care of myself. She apologized for being late and did come up with a excuse as to why she reacted the way she did. I saw Dr. Zachary Sax for an ingrown toenail. I was able to make the appointment within the week and they were able to treat it on the spot. I saw him after two weeks for a check-up post-procedure and he was super caring and efficient. Dr SzPiro is the GOAT Podiatrist! She's a very kind heart women! She asks how you're doing when she's removing your ingrown toe nail. I've been to other Podiatrists around the area. Went in for a wart. Was told this acid would get rid of it but I needed a follow up appointment to re-apply. K whatever - in between those appointments I get a bill for over $300. I call and the lady apologies and says she'll get rid of it right away. I thank her but say, well I'm not interested in more billing mishaps so I'll just go elsewhere. Fast forward a couple weeks and I get another notice about the bill. I call and the woman says she has no idea why someone said they'd get rid of the bill, I have to pay it. I have been to this office on a few occasions and always found the staff to be friendly, competent and professional. My first time was for an ingrown toe nail and toe fungus that was very painful I was very worried about it since I also have chemo-induced neuropathy. I was lucky to get an immediate appointment and saw Dr. Spziro and she was wonderful. Put me right at ease, explained what she was going to do and just in in 20 mins, the relief I felt was amazing. Terrific practice. I have seen both Dr. Szpiro and Dr. Sax, in person and by tele-health, and they have each been terrific every time.
