I ordered 7 day a week delivery Dec 2025, I specifically required that the driver deliver to my garage door - my driveway is 150 feet long. My 90 year old father looks at the photos. The paper randomly is delivered anywhere from 230am to 7am. It has never been delivered to my garage door. The paper has been thrown on the grass , in the woods. up in a tree anywhere but in front of the garage door. I called and reported this dozens of times. Each time a manager called and said it would be corrected. Enough is enough, this is age discrimination and total lack of safety if my father wandered out 150 feet to go fetch this stupid paper. I had a trial digital subscription for 6 months. I cancelled the subscription before the trial period was up. A month later I see a charge from the Herald on my credit card statement. They charged me for a renewal BEFORE the trial subscription had ended. Called them up to refund my money. They refused despite the evidence saying they have no refund policy in place. Buyer beware. On January 18, 2025, my father passed away at age 94. He had paid for his Boston Herald subscription through February 7, 2025. My mother does not read the Herald. My mother told me she believes she called shortly after dad died to cancel the subscription because she couldn't afford it and did not read the Herald. Mom is 92 years old. Today the Herald called her looking for $200 for the subscription. Apparently it was never cancelled. She did not know that it wasn't canceled but was surprised they kept delivering it which she just assumed meant that there was time left on Dads subscription. Not only is $200 an outrageous sum of money for the newspaper but also I find it abhorrent that the Herald would come after a 92 year old woman for her dead husband's newspaper subscription delivered after his death. Obviously my father was not in a position to cancel the subscription from his death bed. My mother never signed up for this subscription. I am appalled at this business practice. I wanted to cancel my subscription but was told me or my wife didn't have one. Oddly enough I am still receiving the e-edition and paying $28 per month via automatic payments but because Herald can't find any subscription, there is no way they can cancel the monthly transactions so I cancelled my credit card to get the Boston Herald out of my life. I called 5 days ago to cancel my Herald account. "Ok, we will cancel your account." Fast forward to this morning and I get charged $234 to my debit card by the Boston Herald. I have no idea what in the world a newspaper that costs like $9 a month could be charging me $234 for. I called up and they said it was a mistake to charge that much and that my cancellation didn't go through the first time. They are refunding me $217 and not the whole amount even though it was their fault and it will take 7-10 days. When it comes to E-newsletter, cancelation is a F*****g nightmare! Horrible customer experience and way too aggressive sales approach on behalf of the subscription department. I talked to someone who claims to be Rob, same guy in subscription department who did not cancel my subscription a few weeks ago when it was stated that it was. I have to write this review as a warning to other people and what to expect so please read along. After canceling subscription a few weeks ago, today they charged again $16 per month. Anyways, I called 3 times. (First time I gave up as I was super busy and could't wait on the line) Second time I called a few days later and I got hold of someone. 1. They make you WAIT under disguise that they are experiencing too many calls. True or not, it smells like bullshit to me but that's not even the main problem...They'll make it frustrating as you realize that you're not talking to the right person. They'll first ask you for email and such which is another waste of time because you are not talking to the right person. Ignore the guy and ask for subscription department. 2. Phone number is hidden and you can't cancel subscription without calling. They hide the right phone number and you'll have to google it because there's nowhere to be found cancelation info on their website. In case if there's one, trust me, it's not easy to be found. 3. When you get hold of a subscription department and request cancelation, sucker will keep pushing the other payment options. He will down-sell you on subscription like crazy! After 3 NO's and my requests of immediate cancelation he'll still continue pushing subscription options for cheaper under disguise that they don't want to loose your business and you as a valued customer. After 4 NO's he canceled it. (but not really) Today the invoice came for $16/mo and I talked to the same guy Rob and finally received an email. I explained my problem and the same guy I talked to weeks ago started offering lower payment methods which triggered the shit out of me resulting in this review and rant how their customer service SUCKS. Big Summary: If you are wondering why you'll wait forever to talk to the right person, it's probably for their benefit. The longer the wait the lower is cancelation rate and more money to them. Boston Herald, If you want your business to thrive and have customers to respect you, don't treat them like garbage. Train your employees to treat people with respect and make it feel real. In my case it felt artificial as if I was talking to automated machine and not a human being who did not even acknowledge to explain why I got charged after cancelation but instead pursued and got pitched for offers again. Very annoying. If you cared in the first place you wouldn't play games around cancelation. Lastly and most importantly, when you cancel customer's subscription, DON'T DARE TO CHARGE HIS CARD. P.S. The deal clearly stated you can cancel at any time and your current subscription would continue for the entire year. There is no online option to cancel and expect a 2 hour wait to speak to someone who can actually cancel the subscription. After the 2 hour wait. the representative did agree to cancel the renewal subscription, but also cancelled the subscription I already paid. We ordered the SUNDAY Herald and paid for a 13 week subscription on June 4th. In August we received the first Sunday paper. We had forgotten we had even ordered it. So good. We will start getting the paper on Sundays. Wrong. It showed up again in September. Again we had forgotten it was supposed to be there. (We also get the Globe). Then hahahaha we got a bill for the next 13 weeks. At this point we had received 2 Sunday papers. I ignored the bill meaning to call and straighten this out. We then got a 3rd paper and another bill. I called and was told because I hadn't reported the non-existent papers they could give me no credit. And to give me a credit I would have to have a zero balance. So they want me to pay the next bill for another 13 weeks to get a credit for the 10 missing papers. And it would have to go higher up than the 2 people I just spoke to. I asked 'you will call with the results?' Nope I had to call back next week (I was already on hold for at least 25 minutes waiting for these 2 to speak, and I got disconnected at one point). I told them to cancel the non-existent delivery of the paper. So, 2 people; one a customer rep (Mia) and the other a supervisor (Rob #2864) and no one could do anything. Rob said this was cancelled. I wish I could give this paper negative stars. And there's only one reason for that, which is unforgivable. After the Red Sox won the 2004 ALCS over the Yankees, an unfortunate tragedy happened involving a young lady by the name of Victoria Snell. The pepper spray bullets used by the Boston Police? One that was fired hit a one in a million spot by entering through Snell's tear duct. She later passed away. Well, every paper covered this story. It was incredibly tragic. The family provided a picture, which most papers used. Not the Herald. I was working when a friend brought the paper in and said, "[t]ake a look at this." On the cover? A picture - full page - of Snell lying on the ground in a pool of blood. I was absolutely sickened and vowed to never buy this paper EVER again. The worst is that despite THOUSANDS of letters of outrage by readers, they still claimed it was still "journalism" and refused to offer an apology. You people at the Herald make me sick to my stomach, and if I ever ran into the editor that allowed such tastelessness to be printed, I would have choice words for you, if not a swift punch to your gut. I avoid this paper like the plague, because of its shoddy journalism, its superficially right-wing editorial and op-ed content (including the awful Bill O'Reilly, Don Feder and Cal Thomas, though Howie Carr can be witty), its childishly screaming cover headlines, and its unprofessional tabloid layout and typesetting that looks like they're stuck in the pre-digital printing-press age. Clearly they're trying to appeal to the average angry Joe Six-Pack and Joe Bag-O-Donuts, not to an educated crowd looking for thought-provoking content. The Boston Globe has always been ten times better for its wider variety of subject matter, its thoughtful and well-written editorials and op-eds (except for John Sununu, and Jeff Jacoby, whom the Globe snagged from the Herald), and its professional broadsheet appearance. The only thing that keeps me from giving the Herald only one star is its graciousness about always publishing my Letters to the Editor, probably because of the liberal slant I always take. Boston moves to the Herald! Is this paper "conservative tripe", as Jeffrey says? Probably. But we know what we're getting into when we pick this paper up. Does it get any better than Howie Carr ripping everyone and everything? I think not. I find it's best not to take him very seriously and just read him for entertainment purposes only, and to see how often he uses the term "hack" in any given column. Always fun. Good sports section also, and I'll take sports columnists like Tony Maz, Gerry Callahan, and Steve Buckley over the holier than thou trio of Dan Shaughnessy, Bob Ryan, and Jackie Mac any day of the week. One star is being docked for the embarrassing Inside Track section, and their endless quest to intrude upon Tom Brady's privacy. I mean, are they TRYING to piss the guy off enough so that he leaves town for another team? This is Tom Brady here, do you realize how crappy the Patriots were before he came here and started winning Super Bowls? Leave the guy alone and be thankful he's a Patriot, I beg you. The Boston Herald Customer Service Department is hitting new lows. I called this morning after not receiving my paper for the second day in a row. The rep I spoke to was polite and told me they would get a paper out to me. Six hours later, they had not done so so I tried calling again. After a 12 minute wait, I got someone who could/would not help me and, indeed hung up on me. I called again and waited 15 minutes to get the same rude, useless person. So, after three calls, I have no paper and a headache. This is not atypical. Their customer service is SLOW and many of the representatives are indifferent to rude. I will be cancelling my longtime subscription. Enough is enough. read more

I have become too frustrated trying to read The Herald's website, that I have replaced it with NECN. I got real tired of being in the middle of a story, and having the page refresh and go back up to the top. It seems they are more interested in loading the advertisements and double click dot net of whatever, than having me read. I sent a "letter to the editor" and went on my way. Tabloid paper that wants to be high brow on occasion, but comes off as pure smut. I will read it when there is a free one around. I like the layout of this paper too, it's easy to read. Unlike the Globe, which is more cumbersome (but has better content). The inside track is hellacious, though I do read it to kill some time. read more

I and my family have subscribed to the Herald for more than 50 years. In the last five years, this paper has gone downhill rapidly. I am charged over $600.00 a year for a paper that has had pages I couldn't read because the content of the article has been cut off or so light it was unreadable. The delivery has also been sporadic. Right now, apparently because the delivery person decided to quit, I have had to contact the paper every day and ask to have my paper delivered. One day it wasn't delivered at all, the next day I was delivered yesterday's paper. I realize that the person quitting has put the Herald in a bad position, but I am having the go out and purchase the paper at a store. I am elderly and on a fixed income so $600 does not come easily. I will cancel this paper if this problem is not solved within the week. I want my paper delivered in the early morning as it has always been. My husband was ecstatic that the Patriots won the SB and was excited to see that the Herald had a 5 plate printing set to commemorate each of their wins. These are super-thin plates and he paid a pretty hefty price for what they were worth (in my opinion). When we received this order all the plates were bent at the corners and some other areas. They shipped it to us wedge between two flimsy pieces of cardboard and a thin sheet of bubble wrap! Of course the cardboard flexed which caused the plates inside to bend! What a cheap way to send it! I contacted them and they didn't even bother to answer me back. Horrible customer service (or lack of). Will never be ordering anything from them again. read more
