Beware of the Globe $1 offer. They are now offering $1 for 26 weeks for the digital subscription. But at the end of that "gift" subscription they start charging $27.72 a month. No notification that the subscription is ending. It's in their contract to bill for continuation. The supervisor Alan was not very helpful for a credit other than to offer a continuation rate, This Boston Globe issue has been reported numerous times in YELP. I have been a home paper subscriber for over 30 years and 4 years digital subscriber but they are losing subscribers with this bait and switch practice. The value is not there, so beware. read more

The TV page that is printed each day was suddenly discontinued around Sept. 1. This is totally unacceptable, and not a nice thing to do. I am paying a lot of money for this paper every month. Having the TV page is a good asset for those who don't have access to computers and seniors who can't navigate one. This subscription is under my mother's name, Beverly Linsky. Got 2 or three bills a month! Asked them (3) times to do auto payment pull! Fell on deaf ears, they stopped the delivery and I had to pay large fee for restart...told then to put my suite number on bag, but never did and 66 units in this building and two globe deliveries to this address, so a lot of times didn't get paper! Paid $1 for 6 month subscription through a promotion and was billed a 27.72 renewal - with no emails whatsoever. I'd looked for a way to cancel long before the 6 months but couldn't find one so I figured I'd just wait for an email notification and cancel then. Not a notification that they were about to charge my account, not a receipt, not even a notification that I had been billed. I just happened to see it on my statement. For everyone leaving a bad review because you can't get your paper delivered, The Boston Globe is so pathetically inept that they've been delivering YOUR papers to my doorstep in Shirley for 4 days now! Yup, I canceled home delivery last year and now have an online subscription, yet somehow their distributor decided that I really still want it delivered, and they're not gonna stop. To add to the hilarity, each BG agent I've called about this assures me they're sending a "critical message" (ooh!) to the distributor - oh yeah, and also totes "escalating this to upper management." Obviously the recipient of these so-called "critical messages" isn't bothering to read a single one of them, and as they refuse to transfer me to anyone from "upper management" as they don't deign to speak to customers, you can see how vested they are in solving this. What's really ironic is that one of the reasons home delivery was such a nightmare was that the paper would end up everywhere but at our doorstep - now that it's not wanted, it's right at the edge of the porch. read more

Dont even try and run a classified ad!! What a joke. The online was Not working. I called and could not get someone on the phone and when I did the connection was terrible. I could still hear the on hold music. I asked them to call me back and they did not call back for over 15 min. Then I finally get someone and they tell me to email the ad. They also told me that the online was not working but they don't charge for that and basically too bad so sad my ad will Not be online and I do not get a discount for that. Four stars for news and TWO FULL PAGES of comics. My apartment complex gets the Globe delivered every day and I'll usually glance over the cover while I'm waiting for my colleagues to catch up. The last couple of days, I've been stuck in the apartment all day so when I popped out for coffee, I bought a paper at the 7-Eleven. Obviously, much of it is slanted towards Massachusetts happenings and it seems to go a leeeetle bit liberal towards the current occupant of the White House. Other than that, the news is good and you can't beat the coverage of the Boston sports teams. read more

Have been a longtime subscriber and actually was the Globe Account Manager at a College. Absolutely love the sports page during the week and weekend, except when they editorialize on other topics. The rest of the paper should be reporting, providing both sides, instead I feel everyone is a columnist providing their slanted perspective. News reports should be fair and balanced and not provide an opinion or snarky comment. Separately, their home delivery service is absolutely horrendous. In the last week alone, 3 missed deliveries where I had to call and many more. Their Customer Service reply is we will credit your account (it's amazing how much a daily globe in a store is $3.50) and notify our Delivery Team....then just crickets. 150 year anniversary? It's a terrible excuse for a newspaper. Not only that, but once you make the mistake of subscribing, they make it as difficult as possible to unsubscribe. Reputable vendors have a link on the page where you can manage your account and end your subscription. Not the Globe. I made the mistake of signing up for 6-month $1 subscription. Without advance notice, they just rolled me over to three months for $27. When I tried to cancel I spent nearly 30 minutes dealing with their "virtual assistant" and then someone on chat. When I said I wanted to cancel, I got this message: "I have pulled up your account and want to thank you for your readership to The Boston Globe since 2022. Why are you looking to cancel your account?" I responded: "It's a lousy newspaper and I'm angry that you charged me for a subscription without advance notice after my 6-month $1 subscription ran out. I also think it's very bad that you won't let a customer simply cancel from the website, and instead mad me jump through hoops and waste time online. It's not your fault personally, but the Globe is not treating its customers right, and I'm writing a review on Yelp to say so. Thank you for canceling my subscription. Please send me an email confirming this, and please refund the charge to my credit card of 7/25." The customer service rep responded with further pitches and offers of discounts. We went through a few more rounds of this, then she said she'd cancel my subscription and left the chat. And then I got a message saying that "Unfortunately, we cannot accept cancellations by chat or email. Please call us at 888-MY-GLOBE (888-694-5623) Mon-Friday, 7:00 AM ET - 6:00 PM ET, Sat and Sun 8:00 AM ET - 3:00 PT ET." This despite the customer service rep saying "you cancel by chat or over the phone." So now I have to be on hold on the phone with the Globe for who knows how long to cancel my subscription. A reputable vendor doesn't make a customer jump through hoops to cancel a service. Their newspaper is so shoddy they sink to this to keep people paying, hoping they'll just give up. Customer service nowadays at the Boston Globe is awful. I have subscribed for over 40 years, and recently received another big monthly price increase, arriving in the bill with no explanation. When I called the customer service number a man from another, distant state answered. He could not explain the increase and said his supervisor was "in a meeting" and that was the way it was. He wasn't rude, exactly just unhelpful. The Globe is regularly shrinking, letting reporters go and eliminating much coverage of books, film,music,travel, etc. The Sunday edition usually features a "makeover" of homes of wealthy clients, which seems frivolous and tone deaf to people struggling to keep up with inflation. The local news coverage remains relevant and the columnists are interesting to read for more depth. The local sports coverage is adequate. I am fortunate to have had a series of reliable delivery people over the years, so am satisfied with that. read more

We have a Sunday subscription. Every other week it is not delivered as scheduled. Decent paper, terrible service. Complain to customer service and they tell you they will tell the carrier and that the carrier will likely deliver the paper between 11 am and 2 pm. They also say that if the paper is not delivered between 11 am and 2 pm call and get a credit. Terrible delivery service, terrible customer service. read more

Obnoxious. I signed up for the super cheap rate to read one article. I think it was $1. Should have run out 7/11 and I should have had until then before being billed again. On 7/4 they charged me $28. I called and asked to cancel and for a refund. They promised the refund but tried multiple times to offer lower and lower rates. I finally cut the guy off the third time to say I wasn't interested and he acted like I was the bad guy for not letting him run his shtick that I already made clear I wasn't interested in for the 3rd time. Very sarcastic attitude because I wouldn't put up with his pestering. 2 days later I get another call from them offering me more discounted rates. Seriously? I have had home delivery with the Boston Globe for years. Today, when I received the Sunday Globe, half the paper was missing. Their have been several times over the last few weeks that the paper was not delivered. So I had to spend the money and buy the paper. When I call Customer Service, I can't get a live voice. This is so frustrating as I want to ask them if they will allow me to use the digital version for that day. But I can't get through to a real person. Now I have to spend more than $5.00 to buy the other half of the paper. Very frustrating. read more

The Boston Globe online and its affiliate site, Boston.com, are both politically bigoted and biased, almost acting as an arm of the Democratic Party. Comments for stories left by conservative or moderate readers, which do not violate posting policy, often get removed, or readers get shadow banned so that only they can see the comments that they post. The issue of racism for example - a worthy topic that SHOULD of be covered - is insinuated ad nauseum into articles having nothing to DO with racism, or racism is seen where it doesn't exist. Example of the latter: a Boston mayoral candidate distributed a flyer in which her photo was in color and that of her opponent, a black woman, was in black and white. This technique, called "gray scaling", has been used for decades and it is done to make one candidate stand out and the other NOT stand out. MANY political candidates of all races have had their photos gray scaled by opponents, but now cries of "racism!" come from the uber left, and the Globe ran with it, adding NO discussion that brought balance the their skewed coverage. And God help you if you leave a civil and thoughtful comment about about our national borders and illegal migrants or race that doesn't "fit" the sanctioned narrative, or point out hypocrisy and double standards coming from the left in regards to Covid rules or any other topic. Example: The name of Dudley Square in Roxbury was changed because its 17th century namesake had ties to the slave trade. It was renamed "Nubian Square", yet the Nubian people of Africa had a centuries old economy and way of life based on, guess what? Slavery! Another example: Biden, Pelosi, and other Dem leaders have been seen breaking Covid rules, but oh, the glares you get if you walk down a sidewalk in Cambridge without wearing a mask, even if not required. Does the Globe criticized Dem bigwigs over this? Nope. We get our news from a variety of sources: all major networks, Fox News, the BBC, various newspapers, and until now, the Boston Globe. Just canceled after 19 yrs of Sunday home delivery. Would get skipped 2 wks in a row, then it would show up, then not, etc. Was always promised a paper later in the day by customer support and it would never come. Getting out with a special needs child to hunt down a Globe on a Sunday afternoon is not easy and I consistently told that to customer support, asking for help please. Always tipped my carrier, but I guess not enough for him to drop a paper in my driveway each Sunday (sometimes in a puddle or just in the middle of the street-- I never complained about that at all). Will still give to Globe Santa. Just disappointed because I grew up on the Globe and I cut out articles for students and friends. I have quiet time and read before my family gets up on Sundays. Last year I tried to get a lower rate and there seemed to be a misunderstanding that I wanted a second subscription....Fine...when I started getting 2 papers I called to clear up the situation.....after 6 phone calls and 2 emails each time the person assuring me this was fixed. Finally this week after so much frustration..I cancelled "both" subscriptions! I understand the work situation right now is difficult...but I have never seen anything like this as far as customer service! 8 people dropped the ball! Of course turned down the "kind" offer. Really think the Globe needs to figure out a better customer model. I was given a 6 month subscription as a gift and when the 6 months was up they continued to deliver and bill for it. When I called to cancel they told me that it was up to me or the gift giver to cancel the subscription. They also told me that the bill had to be paid or it would go to collections. What a scam!!! I LOVE the Globe. Love it, grew up reading it, it's all I will read. This review is about their delivery, so wake up Globe, and take note: whoever is running your delivery center and outsourcing. etc is messing it up. I use the word "messing" instead of the word I really want. My Sunday paper is usually delivered around 9am, a good hour after the latest it is "supposed" to be delivered by. This morning I had to call - again not only because it is not here at 9:15 but because their website is down. Globe: If you cannot hire people who genuinely want to work early in the morning delivering papers, then just be honest and say you cannot deliver. Don't lie and deliver half-assed service.
