Not sure how this place has such a high rating, considering the customer service I just received on the 2-minute phone call just now. I called to get an estimate for gutter cleaning and ask a few questions, told the guy who answered the phone that I had spoken with another company that had given me me a price, and I had a question about pricing as well as a couple about gutter cleaning in general. He asked why I didn't ask the first place the questions. I told him they had simply given me a price without seeing or asking about the size of the house; and, since it's always best to get a few estimates when having work done, I was calling a a couple of places. He then laughed and said, "Our price would be on the higher end." I said okay and, "Since I have you on the phone, and [paraphrasing] this is what you guys do, is it best to wait until after all the leaves have fallen to get the gutters cleaned? I've never done this before. I just bought the house two years ago." I'm not sure at what point he hung up on me, but I think it was right around, "...after all the leaves have fallen to get the gutters cleaned?" These guys may do good work, but I will never know (nor will anyone who asks me to refer them to a gutter cleaning service), since I would never work with a company that represents themselves so unprofessionally and rudely. Maybe they should hire a receptionist to answer the phone instead of the jerk I spoke with this morning who sounded like he had a mouthful of marbles. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY!! To anyone thinking about using Boston Roofing and Gutters for a job, do not. They are unresponsive, untrustworthy and greedy. The owner Chris does not return phone calls, or texts. He has ignored me for well over 8 months! I have a job that is unfinished after over a year with no response from the owner or his sales team. Please read my story below. In July of 2018, I had the roof replaced on my home, in addition to replacing the existing red aluminum with new white aluminum to the entire house (fascia boards) and fix (left side) currently visibly damaged rake board and fascia board. I had 2 other offers to choose from and went with Boston Roofing and Gutters because 1. they were local and 2. a family friend, Ryan Gee was the sales rep for the company and I thought I would support his company as this was his latest endeavor. My roof was completed and it looked awesome and I was happy with the work and clean up. Fast forward 7 months later, February 27, 2019, there was a massive rain and wind storm. During this storm, the newly installed white aluminum on the left side covering the rake board blew off, exposing the existing damaged rake board. This rake board WAS NOT replaced as stated in the contract thus the aluminum not adhering and flying off. I immediately filmed a video and texted Ryan about it and left him a voicemail. He let me know that he will send his guys but they have a job minimum. I sent him a picture of the contract and circled where it was detailed that the board would be replaced and after seeing the pictures and video of the rotted board still on, Ryan said he was going to get his guys out there next week and fix it no problem. NO RESPONSE. Monday, March 25th, I sent Ryan another text and video letting him know his guys never came to fix it. He then told me I will be first on the list for tomorrow. NO ONE SHOWED UP. Wednesday March 27th, Ryan sent me a text stating Val, one of the workers will be calling me to set up an appointment to fix the problem. NO RESPONSE. Friday April 5th, Ryan sent me a text asking if the work was done and I told him no. NO ONE CALLED AND NO ONE SHOWED UP. Tuesday June 18th, I sent a text to Chris, the owner with pictures of my roof asking him to please call me. NO RESPONSE. Thursday June 27th, I started a group text to Ryan and Chris the owner sending them the videos and pictures trying to follow up and ask when they are going to fix this mess. NO RESPONSE. Tuesday July 2nd, I sent another text to the group text of Ryan and Chris, noting they have not responded at all to me. Not even a confirmation of receiving the text. Ryan responds asking Chris, his boss and the business owner to respond to me and take care of me. NO RESPONSE. Friday July 19th, I texted the group again letting them know it's been 2 weeks since I last reached out. Ryan responds to Chris asking if they are going to help me out soon. NO RESPONSE. I called Chris on his cell phone in September and left him a voicemail asking him to call me and NO RESPONSE. I then called his office in Quincy, an associate named Alex answered. I explained the situation, he apologized and said he or Chris would get back to me. NO RESPONSE. A company that calls itself 'Roofing and Gutters' told me they do not provide service involving roofing and gutters.

As a trustee of a 16 unit complex in Dorchester, I'm responsible for oversight over common facilities and repair of any exterior facing components of our units. Recently, the gutters above several of our units were starting to show signs of wear and downspouts were failing to effectively drain water away from our units. One unit owner reported leaking from the roof that was causing interior damage during particularly heavy rain storms. The trustee group reached out to a few roofing and gutter companies to solicit quotes for the work with mixed results. Many of these companies have you fill out a web form and enter your contact information so that they can call you back. Boston Roofing and Gutters was one of the first companies we were able to get on the phone and speak with a real live person to schedule a walkthrough and get a quote. On the day of the walkthrough, Boston Roofing and Gutters sent out Ryan to provide an estimate. He walked through the property with myself and another Trustee and we explained the problems that we were having. It turns out that the repair would require the replacement of rotted fascia board and installation of new flashing in some areas before we could install gutters. In addition to the roof repair and gutter work, Ryan suggested that they could help with a few miscellaneous repairs around the complex such as replacing rotting window sills and trim board. The quote we received was fair and reasonable. Due to prior client commitments, we couldn't get on the schedule for about a month and a half. This was all explained by Ryan up front. Given that good contractors are so hard to find, we decided to wait it out. A few days before the work was scheduled to begin, I got a call from Chris who confirmed when his guys would be on site. When his guys came on site, I did a brief walkthrough with Colm to review the scope of work. At this point, I was expecting that their team would need 3-4 days to address all of the repairs. By the end of day 1, they were about 75% complete with everything and by day 2 - the work was done. Not only was the work completed but it was clear that they take pride in their quality and worksmanship. I was very pleased with the results and the expediency of the work. A few days after the work had been completed, we experienced high winds which ended up separating a piece of siding near the roof that wasn't effectively secured following the gutter work. The siding was banging against the side of one of our units and was causing the tenants to lose sleep. I called Chris the following morning and explained the situation. Understanding the urgency, he deployed one of his guys out that day to fix the siding - much to the appreciation of the tenants. Overall, it was a great experience which I've found is a rare occurrence given our history with contractors in the complex over the years. He provided us with a quote and was very upfront about the work and the timing. UPDATE ON HIS COMMENT BELOW: I have a signed contract on June 1, 2019 so that is a bold face lie that it was 6 months ago. The siding was off when Ian came to quote the job and when you completed the job. When the siding when to be installed it was discovered that the aluminum wrap was installed with a huge run off and gap, not flat against the house so impossible to install the siding. So saying it has to be bent a different way makes zero sense. It is pathetic and cowardly they wouldn't even send someone here for 5 minutes to discuss with me in person, although I would still be willing to if they wanted to come see my face to face. I was very respectful when you told me you were tied up for a month and you told me you were willing to work with me. In reality, you were pushing me off so the gap in time was longer from the actual job so you could make an excuse not to come out. Everything in this comment is a lie, I am very disappointed on how dishonest and disrespectful this company is. ORIGINAL POST: The company installed a total of 40' of gutters and one 4' piece of fascia trim that runs off 1.25" to an existing piece of fascia trim. That run off creates a large gap from the fascia to the exterior wall and doesn't allow the siding to be nailed into anything, multiple vertical 2x4 shims would be required to make up for the gap in order to have something to nail the siding to, this would also create a hump on the exterior wall. Initially Ian Zmud came to my house to review the job, he said he would call if anything came up during the job because his crew are professionals and might see something that he didn't. We did discuss how much trim needed to be replaced and I said only what trim needs to be replaced because I did not know exactly. Ian was great and helpful at the time. The job was completed on Friday June 7th when I was not home. The siding was ordered and took a couple weeks to come in through Lowes (messed up delivery and a special color), by the time the siding started going up (June 29, I realized this issue when I was measuring up from the top of the exterior wall and saw the gap. I texted the Chris, the owner, with photos and a description, who said everyone is on a commercial job for 1 month. I said that is ok I want to work with you to get this resolved because I will have work in the future and want to stay in good standing. He agreed and said to touch base, I call him back a week later and says he will touch base with me in two weeks because they are still busy, I called him 2.5 weeks later (7/29) to review the situation again (after we did a few times via text and on the phone) and this is when he said he cannot help me out because the job is not big enough and I already had paid. This small job would only require a couple hours. Now I am left with a gap and have to find another contractor to come out, quote the job and complete it. I do not feel like I received good customer service or professional craftsmanship on the job. read more

They did an awful job; the gutters sag in the middle, they left entire runs of gutter unscrewed and unsecured, left parts and trash scattered throughout my yard, left plastic "sawdust" shavings all over yard and driveway, and doubled the price per foot to replace facia AFTER they started the job. They said they would come out to fix it but now avoid my calls and emails. Lowest bid is not always the best bid, do yourself a favor and don't waste your time with these crooks. I always hate writing negative reviews because it means I had to have experienced something truly so ridiculous that I had to write it and warn others. I had used this company twice to do gutter cleanings (which they contract out) and they did a good job. Were quick (~1 hour), and reasonably priced at $150 for my side of the townhouse (~80 feet of gutter). Their owner notified me over the phone, when I mentioned during the gutter cleaning scheduling that I was having roof estimators come to give us a roof quote, that they also do roofs and that is the main part of their business. Due to my good experience with the gutter cleaning I invited his team out to give me a home estimate. Their team, was courteous (took of their shoes upon coming in the house), came off as friendly (see below), and were very knowledgeable, but that's about where the positive experiences end. The quote for the roof was astronomical! By astronomical, I mean I got quotes from 5 other places and only one was greater than HALF (and just barely greater) of their quote. All of the other quotes were between 1/3 and 1/2 of the price (without revealing all the pricing details, this was going to save me anywhere between 10-20K--a lot of money!) for the same work and same materials! The other companies actually all had better labor warranties as theirs was for only 1 year, while 4 of the other 5 quotes had 10+! During our conversation they kept making hints at the condition of our home's interior, and even asked me what the home was valued at! This is a normal conversation with friends or even acquaintances, but here felt like an attempt to size up how much my wife and I made and whether we would just pay for an overpriced roof--NEWSFLASH: we bought our home by saving money, and not by not doing our due diligence and overspending. Towards the end of the conversation I think they realized that I was going to be doing a lot of research and told me the price was "very negotiable" with at least 10% coming off if I did it very soon. Other Yelpers, please feel free to reach out if you'd like to know some of the other companies I reached out to for quotes--I don't want to publish them here. I have 5 that are all fairly comparable, and will have 7 by week's end. I will also be leaving a review for the eventual company that I go with, and let you know how that goes. In several of the reviews below, people recommend Boston Gutters for the fine work they did "repairing" and "cleaning" gutters. This is the reason we called Boston Gutters. However, when Chris arrived we told him we wanted our gutters repaired and cleaned. Chris's response was "I'm not the guy, we don't do that. If you want new gutters we'll put new ones in for you. But I'm not your guy for the other stuff." Our gutters only needed to be tightened up closer to the fascia board and cleaned out. There were no leaks in our gutters, there were no holes and we didn't have any issues with water. The gutters had simply come away from the fascia board slightly from two winters ago. Instead of agreeing to repair our gutters, Chris put the hard sell to my wife and told her they all needed replacing. Once I cam outside he tried to sell me too. The gutters are only about 6 years old, have plenty of life and have no leaks. It's appalling that a company that clearly does repairs for others and cleans gutters for others would tell us "I'm not your guy" but if you want to spend a few thousand on new gutters then I'll gladly sell you those. If it looks like a snake, sounds like a snake, and offers you new gutters like a snake, then it's probably a snake. Be warned. You may not have needed those expensive seamless gutters they convinced you that you needed. read more

We waited for our next rainfall before writing a review...and we're feeling good about our gutter purchase! Even in the time of COVID-19, representatives came to our home in a safe manner (masks, 6' distance), and were able to listen to our needs and provide knowledge to help us make as informed a decision as possible. We ended up seeking out 5 different gutter quotes after getting some suspiciously-low and ridiculously-high quotes, and Boston Roofing & Gutters offered a price that was reasonable for the work identified. Even better, we didn't feel pressured to make a fast decision. The payment process was done digitally (an easy process), and they were back lickety-split!
