So I love this place!!! I've been for several reasons, to have readings, to buy sage, and I've always planned on going to a Wednesday meditation. My first reading was with Alexandria. I had literally 10 minutes with her and she touched on everything. Which is extra amazing because I gave her nothing, I was so confused myself and despite that she was very intuitive. The most recent reading I was unable to get Alexandria so I went with Audriana. It was an OK reading. I feel like I was giving her a lot of info when she asked and she was feeding off me. During the half hour it was all about the same thing and I didn't get a ton of new info or insight. It was more like counseling. Granted my aura may have been "one-track-minded" but I would have appreciated getting off one topic and seeing more of the big picture of my life. I will be going again and can't wait to update this and hopefully give a higher rating. But I would definitely recommend going and finding the psychic that works for you. read more

I went here the day my dog died to get my mom something to cheer her up. I was looking at a book and Lydia (worker) was right next to me and said she loved it. I immediately broke down crying and told her about my dog (I'm an oversharer) and she talked to me for like 15 minutes trying to make me feel better. Then she gave me a rose quartz crystal for healing. THEN I was checking out and talked to Carly at the register about how tough it is to work in the customer service industry and she gifted me a crystal for protecting my energy. These two ladies seriously made one of the worst days of my life so much better. I cannot say enough about these women. I've only been here twice but the kindness they showed me that day makes me want to go there all the time. It really felt like a safe space for me because of Lydia and Carly. The staff is incredible. They know their stuff and they're very very approachable. The candle and crystal selection is great, and they have a surprisingly strong book section too. So, i frequent Boston Tea at least a few times a month. Love the store and for the most part, the staff is lovely and helpful. However today, my friend and i were followed around the store and being watched closely. Ok ok i can understand if you're unfamiliar with the people or they look sketchy, however we literally see these people often. We wanted to smell a scent that had no tester and it was a major inconvenience that we even asked. You would have thought we asked for a first born child. Terrible. After being followed around the store, closely mind you. I cashed out (with a sweet woman... also there is another woman who usually wears black and a hat who is super accommodating) as we were walking out Precious Angel was following closely behind and says "Have a great day!" In the most condescending tone. Listen, I'm not sensitive, however, she is just horrible for business. As far as I'm concerned i will be of course returning here but i pray i never come at the same time that this person (Precious) is working. She left a bad taste in my mouth. Today was my second ever reading Liz was so good the first time (last year) That I had to come back this year for another reading In the half hour that we have together you walk out feeling like you just had a great conversation with your best friend, like she has known you your entire life and understands your past struggles present and maybe future. It's refreshing to be assured or reassured we are right where we need to be... to be validated for who we are or who we were. It's a fresh perspective and a window to the outside of your own life. She and her gift gives you a chance to look in. I highly recommend a reading with Liz, at the end of the session I just wanted more so I will definitely be doing an hour session next time. She's able to make you feel comfortable and at ease for someone who isn't all too familiar with her gift but I have definitely been very open and wanting to learn a lot more about it. Jane is my favorite reader and has become a friend over the past few years that i've been coming here. She is great to talk to even about mundane things with. She's not only on point with her readings, she also gives good advice as an outsider to life situations. Alexandria gave me a very good reading about a job offer that i was given. She was straight to the point and seemed to be very honest with what I've had my reservations about without sugar coating it. I like the vibe when I walk in the door of Boston Tea Room. As soon as I walked in the back door I was warmly greeted by the staff and the amazing aroma. There is a wall of teas, of course, in every flavor you can think of. The staff is knowledgeable and very helpful. I wish there were more stones/crystals to pick from and a bigger range (there are very big stones and very small ones I'd like to see more medium sized stones and everything in between). I love coming here. Sometimes to just browse at the variety of holistic and metaphysical goodies. Sometimes to try their amazing tea. And sometimes to actually get a reading, shocking, I know. They have a lot of different readers and a knowledgeable staff so my personal advice would be if you're looking for something specific, be specific when making your appointment. Ex: I'm a spiritual person, but not very religious and I would like my palm read in addition to tarot. Or something of the sort. I've had 3 readings here, all very different but good in their own right and they provided what I needed at the time. The first one was dead on, frighteningly accurate for years to come. The second hit home emotionally. The third felt like a therapy session. But I probably needed some therapy lol. Regardless, they have everything you want, need, or desire. I had a phone reading with Jane while I was still in AZ. Even though the information she was telling me was not easy to hear nor did I want to hear it and believe it to be true she told me very tactfully... I could tell it wasn't easy for her either. Also, sitting back a little over a month later EVERYTHING she said has been accurate. She told me the relationship was over, it was and is, she told me things about her before she changed and now that are true and she would have no way of knowing. She told me I would come back to MI for a visit and not know if I was coming back for longer until I was here, but 8 wouldn't stay. I didn't know I would be coming back until the day I was leaving back to AZ and she was right again ... 3 weeks and a day is the longest I am staying as I have a great opportunity out of state and will be on my way this Tuesday. I drove a distance to visit the store and was looking forward to a nice experience. The store is so crowded and full of staff, so it is hunting experience. Most of the staff members are young and know very little - but are quite friendly. They literally follow you everywhere! I am about 60 years old and having a 17 year old follow me and ask me dumb questions, like "do you want to hold a crystal?" They have a LOT of calcite and that was a disappointment. They do have some nice stones in the cases & if the staff can find the key, they do readily open them (they should fix the key issues). The prices are high. I mean really high. I had just purchased a nice polished 4-5 pound labradorite for $50.They have one that is only polished on one side for $200. The Super Seven stones in the size and quality they have usually sell for about $18, they sell their Super Sevens for $30. They have a lot of very small rocks. They do have tarot card readers and I overheard the staff telling a new reader that "she did a good job and told the person what she was supposed to." So I don't think I would pay for reading here. There are so many staff members following you that the store is hard to navigate. Since merchandise is everywhere (floors, shelves, etc.) you can't really locate things easily so prepare for a hunting experience as you step over other customers and their staff shadows. Suggestions to the owner: Move the small stones next to the cash register so you can watch for theft without gluing a staff member to each customer. Move the Buddhas and non stone supplies to where the tea is. Eliminate the non used chairs and other useless furniture. Move the reading areas to the back wall and open the place up. If you do this, you might have enough room to sell tea by the cup. I think the place has a lot of potential, but being hounded by the staff is too much. I left without making a purchase since I felt the place had really bad energy. read more

I've been to Boston Tea Room Ferndale for a reading 3 times in the past and had wonderful experiences full of insight, hope, and opportunity for self development. However, my 4th visit was very displeasing. I had a 45 minute session with a reader I have never had before. While she was very friendly, her reading for me left me more confused and distraught than I did when I came in. Despite having drawn almost the exact same cards every time, her reading controdicted itself on many occasions. For example, at the beginning of my reading she said I was very compatible with my partner and our relationship will work out in my favor (having a family in the future), describing our relationship as romantic and supportive. However 20 minutes into my reading she said the relationship will never work out and our personalities clash. When I asked questions, she couldn't give me a logical or straight answer. After my reading I went to the front desk to speak of my negative experience, however the store was very crowded and each staff member appeared to be with another guest. I, unfortunately, had an appointment immediately following so I had to leave the store. The first thing I did the next day was call the store and express my disappoinment with this experience because I had been a returning customer. The worker stated that because I didn't bring this up immediately, there isn't anything they could do. I gave her my phone number so she could pass along the message to her manager, but never heard back. I was very disappointed in how they handled my situation as I have heard if you don't connect well with one reader, they usually set you up with a new reader or refund your service. Even though my other experiences were great, I will not be returning in fear of getting another bad reading. read more

This place puts on a friendly non judgmental front but is quite the opposite. Employees leer over your shoulder as if you're stealing their subpar rocks. There are tacky "smile you're on camera" signs EVERYWHERE! Not exactly a friendly vibe. The items are ridiculously overpriced and crammed together. Alright, it's time for me to review this place because I've been there plenty of times and it keeps getting weirder and more expensive. First I will say that over the past few years I've had a handful of "readings" here and with all different "psychics," and nothing, I mean nothing, has been true of what they saw in the cards about my questions that I asked. I mean like dead wrong, I feel as if they were just trying to get my hopes up, or tell me things just so I would keep coming back. It was like they are forced to try to sell you as a repeat customer. One of the "psychics" talked almost the whole time about how I'm psychic and that I should take their tarot card class, that was a tacky sales technique. If she was a real intuitive, then maybe she would have known I already know the cards and that I could see through her BS. And when your reading is almost up, usually a desk girl comes and rudely pulls the curtain open so your privacy is gone and kills the vibe. It's sends the message to get out quickly because they've already taken your money. Next, all of their products are WAY overpriced, I mean everything. It's crazy, you can go across the street to the candle shop or Mystic Moon a few miles away and get sage and stones for cheaper that are better. My advice, if your looking to buy metaphysical tools, please save yourself the money and go somewhere else. You can even get almost all of the stuff they sell on Etsy, Ebay or Amazon for a fraction of their prices. You can even order the herbs and make your own tea for so much cheaper, and it's really easy. I've been to a couple of the meditation classes and they were so overcrowded & definitely not relaxing, I had to sit on a metal chair practically touching the people on either side of me. The teachers I had were not very good and I'm glad it was only $5, I guess this is the only thing here where you get what you pay for. Next, the staff has gotten super weird lately, it's like they are watching everyone in there like a hawk as if all of the customers are thieves. They have this obvious fake welcome spiel and it's sadly robotic. And I've even had some of the girls behind the counter have some condescending attitudes. Bottom line, for a place that sells healing tools, it just feels slimy and fake. They are just trying to get your money, get you in and out, but try to sell you on coming back, ew. I feel like it used to be better and this place has gone downhill, or maybe I just "see the light." read more

The woman who did my reading was very nice; however, I definitely felt as though she was asking me if what she was saying was applicable to my life rather than just giving me the information regardless of whether it was applicable. I went with my husband for a couples reading the other night and it was excruciatingly bad. My friend and her boyfriend went right after us, and they had the same experience. Our reader did not even pretend to use the tarot cards to support her statements. She asked us about our relationship and then gave general counseling advice that any tipsy aunt would give at a family gathering. My take, do not go in for a couples reading. You're better off (and it's cheaper) to hire a professional marriage counselor for an hour. I will say that the shop at the facility was quite nice and had a good selection though. read more

I have been coming to the Boston Tea Room for a number of years, and I love this place! As a person who loves all things metaphysical, I cannot think of a time where I did not feel welcomed and comfortable. Not only does the store provide a beautiful and calming ambiance, but the staff is knowledgable and accommodating. I have even witnessed Heatherleigh, the owner of BTR work just as hard to make every single one of her customers feel at home in her establishment. Her smile lights up the room, and customers are drawn to her positive energy. I value great customer service, and I can truly say that the BTR never disappoints! As far as the items sold in the store, and services provided, you can't find a better place. Whatever you're looking for (candles, jewelry, incense, books, etc.), the BTR has it. Every time I walk into the store I seem to find new and unique items! Also, the intuitive counselors are amazing! All of the ladies are very experienced, and I must say that the readings I have received in the past were very accurate. All in all, I would definitely recommend (and have already recommended to others) the Boston Tea Room. I really enjoy this store. However, I swear every time I go in and like something they're out of stock. Also, for this type of store I like to take my time looking and be left alone. The workers here remind me of the super pushy ones at Lush. If a customer says I don't need help, then please give them space. Pushing them to talk or look DOESNT give you business. The store is decently priced, but definitely not reasonable or affordable by any means compared to other stores in the area. i asked for a love reading and it was completely inaccurate! I was told that a man from my past would reach out to me by February, and that him and his current girlfriend were not serious. The reader said they would not be together in the future. This is as far from the truth as possible! He has not reached out to me, complete silence from his end, and him and his girlfriend are getting married! She also told me that apart from him reaching out to me, another guy would come into my life, to "court me". This also has not happened. Overall, very disappointed with the complete inaccuracy of the reading. They just want your money, all one giant scam! read more

I've heard nothing but great things but I was not impressed with my mini session. I wasn't sure what to expect out of a reading so booked the 15 minute option. I scheduled with Jayme but she called in sick the day of my reading. The receptionist let me know Vivienne was available instead, she isn't listed on their website as a reader so I wasn't sure of her background or specialties but was coming with a friend so didn't want to cancel completely. She wasn't very friendly, was about 5 minutes late for the session, and I would say only gave me about 5 minutes worth of a reading. I spent a lot of time sitting and staring at the cards she pulled as she asked me to think of how they relate to my life (no clue) and she didn't explain well what they meant. She also pulled up my natal chart, which I'm familiar with and could do myself and wasn't sure what that had to do with the reading. It seems as though I needed to come with a specific question for the mini session to be worthwhile. read more
