I've always loved this store but today was especially wonderful. Their hours are a bit odd and varying, which I didn't realize when I ordered a gift basket for my boyfriend's family friends for a bday. However, I called today and the owner answered (I had to call a few times because of some phone issues) and she was so friendly, kind and was able to get the order done straight away so I could pick it up before leaving town tomorrow morning. My review is based on my online order - never been to the storefront. Not yet, at least! I heard about Made in the Mitten on Fox 2 who was doing a story about the store and interviewed the owner. This was also during the COVID-19 pandemic. I decided to check out their website and see what the store had to offer. I noticed a ton of unique products! Clothing, candles, treats, home goods and more all from different vendors. We re-did our bathroom not too long ago and I was looking for a cute decorative sign. So I checked out the home goods section. I found the perfect sign - "Wood Poop Here Again" and had 5 stars - perfect sign for the bathroom and perfect for being a Yelper! The price was $17, then after shipping and taxes it was $22.25. I felt like this was a little steep for a 6x6x2 tiny sign. But, I put my frugalness aside and figured that during a pandemic I could treat myself and support a local business during a tough economic time. Placed the order online on 4/24/20 and it was very easy! I also signed up for their rewards program where you can earn points for your purchase. The product was shipped out on 5/2/20 and came to my doorstep today (5/4/20). The Made in the Mitten sticker was cute on the packaging! Inside the box was a thank you note and coupon code for my next purchase - very nice surprise. I was also impressed with the sign - it was real wood and not cheap balsa wood. It was great quality and I felt a little better about paying $17.00 for it. Perfect size for my bathroom shelf! We all need a laugh during this strange coronavirus time, so thank you, Made in the Mitten, for brightening up my bathroom and giving me a laugh! read more

This is a small but such a cute store. So many local artist crafts all themed or inspired by Detroit or Michigan. They have so many random gifts for all ages, toys for kids, kitchen accessories and even mittens for the kitchen too, cutting board and charcuterie boards or wall decor of all sorts, cocktail glasses and pints for the guys, jewelry and other Knick knack items for mom and grandmas alike. This is a great spot to spend a bit of time and explore the crafts and local artisan's interpretation and love for our Great Lake state. As they say, shop small and shop local. read more

I love this store so much! The first time I came here, I was drawn in by the teal / mint green awning, door, & storefront. As I walked in, I immediately knew I was going to love it here because the walls & stands were all along the teal-theme as well & well...I really love teal things. The owner and I bonded over the fact that we were both obsessed with teal after I walked up to her at the back of the store to check out and everything I had selected to buy was some shade of teal! There are so many cute items here in this Michigan-themed store & the vibe is definitely geared more towards millennials & younger, a category that I & all my friends belong to. You can really feel the love of Michigan as you check out all the vendors in this store that have been carefully selected by the owner & there's a constantly rotating selection of goods to check out as well each time I come here. I just love it here so much & as someone who is well-versed in this general area's plethora of Michigan-themed stores, this one, despite being smaller than most, stands on its own two feet as a unique place to shop! I tired to help my dad do a local pick up at this business, and the experience was beyond frustrating. We tried to buy 2 simple coffee mugs, and it turned into a month of going nowhere and waiting. We purchased the coffee mugs for local pick up a few days after Christmas. That day we didn't hear anything, so we waited about 5 days before reaching out. Was then emailed by the owner stating they were working in the store for the next few hours and we could come pick up the mugs. We went to the store and no one was there. The place was dark and empty. We then emailed her stating we tried to come by, and we'd like to get them ASAP because they were a late extra Xmas gift. She then out of nowhere said her daughter had Covid. Not saying anything about that in our prior email. She then said her husband could drop them off. We said we understood and that would be great. She responded and said he would come by Monday night after work. We were totally fine with that. Monday came and gone. We didn't hear anything from the owner. And it turned into Thursday, and we still didn't hear anything. We then emailed her saying can we please just have our mugs that we paid for up front? Didn't get a response, was just completely ignored. So finally, we just said forget it. And started a PayPal dispute. We were then fully refunded. My question is, if all of this is going on. Why not state that on your website or let people know up front that orders are going to be way behind? You have no problem taking the money for the product, but then when it comes time to do your part, it's a big waiting game. I totally understand in these times of covid that she needs to take care of her daughter. But does that justify waiting almost a month too receive a product you already paid up front for? She responded to my dads review by saying, he should have some empathy. I think waiting over 3 weeks for 2 coffee mugs is being pretty patient and empathetic. At what point do you have empathy for your customers trying to support your local business, and spending their hard earned money. And then stringing them along for almost a month? She then said he should stick to "big box stores" Maybe that's a good idea. I can guarantee you wouldn't have to wait a month and hear the constant runaround on why you don't have your product that you paid for yet. She responds faster too negative reviews left on her page, then she does to a paying customer asking about a product they already paid for. What does that say? My advice is to stay as far away from this place as you can. It is so obviously unprofessionally lead and ran. Do business with someone who actually cares about the customer. read more

This is our absolute go to place for gifts. You can find something for everyone you love, on your list, and we love that it's all handmade. It's also inexpensive! The owner always goes above and beyond to help us every time we visit. We are transplants and have been shopping here since our move, especially for gifts for family out of state. I would encourage you to ignore the really sad review below someone left when considering shopping, as I know her store was closed for more than 3 months, as her 6 year old had covid. I had to make sure to come on here to leave a review after all of the help and above and beyond Colleen did to take care of a broken package. I reached out when the shipping provider damaged a gift basket we ordered. I was instructed to fill out a form for a UPS claim. With her help we were able to get the refund promptly, and she reshipped the entire order the next day. While we visited to shop to purchase the gift basket, we could see just how busy this small shop was with seemingly only one employee. In conversation she let us know she had 800 open gift baskets orders she was currently building, and all on her own, just a couple weeks before Christmas. To see that kind of dedication is incredible. It is clear that Colleen truly believes in helping small business and putting a personal touch on the orders she receives. I will absolutely be back and recommend Made in the Mitten to everyone for shopping small. read more

The owner is terrible at communication and offers services she has no intention of delivering. I ordered 2 items with free delivery offered- if address is in the same city her shop is located in. Waited 3 days with NO communication as to delivery day. Messaged her, no reply for 2 days, emailed and messaged again. FINALLY on 5th day, she messages me and tells me I have to pick it up from her store during a three-hour window on one particular day. Makes an excuse saying she can't drive to deliver to me. Never apologized!! I called and asked for a refund. I was trying to support a small business, will never shop there again. read more
