Botanica San Miguel is a warm, inviting place with a plethora of candles for every spiritual need. Just inside, there is a large altar in tribute to San Miguel, or Saint Michael (known to us New-Agers as Archangel Michael), adorned with fresh flowers and burning glass candles, where you can make an offering if you wish.
There are fabulous small ritual work candles in every color, sold individually or by the box, which I have not found so easily here in Boston, as there do not seem to be many metaphysical shops here compared to California. There are many, many, MANY glass candles in a few different sizes and in every color, in most Saints and Christian deities, and many for such purposes as Protection, Attracting Love, Attracting Money, Reversal, etc. Most of them are the type that burn for 7 days. The herbs are loose and in small baggies. I have never seen such a vast and impressive collection of religious statues, which must be popular, as they always seem to replacing them. There are many more things I am not so familiar with, but Maria and her staff and even many regular patrons are happy to help you find the right botanical and other supplies, or interpret some of the Spanish words so you are clear on what you are being told.
But perhaps the most important feature of Botanica San Miguel is Maria herself, who does readings and can give you informed advice, botanical solutions, incense and instruction for a modest fee, to help resolve many of the challenging situations we encounter in life. She also has a few other qualified people on staff who do consults. You need not be superstitious; a healthy belief in a higher power along with the intention to take care of yourself, your life and your interests, without harming others, is all that is needed when you seek a consultation. Then you simply follow the instructions and you will see how things tend to resolve themselves in your life and affairs. Most of us end up there by direct referral, so take this as yours if it feels right to you.
As a followup to the prior review, I want to correct the directions. It is the 39 bus from Copley or Forest Hills Station that takes you a block from their door. (Get off at St. Rose St.). If you are coming from Forest Hills T station, it is only a 5-minute walk up South St. (towards The Monument in J.P., where the street meets up with Centre St. and the main business district in central Jamaica Plain, but by bus it is the 2nd stop, and a short walk continuing in that direction. read more
