At ten hectares (25-ish acres?) it's not the largest Botanical Garden I've visited. The pathways seemed very crowded at noon on this particular weekday. So my experience was a little less enjoyable sauntering, and more Pacman-style weaving to get where I wanted to go. I can see there is beauty here, and I imagine that I would enjoy it more during a less busy time. read more

The Botanical Gardens are connected/right next to the geological museum. The main highlight is that they are open fairly early in the morning and are free. That and the fact that botanical gardens are just gosh-dang beautiful. The park closes a little early in the evening, so I didn't have much time to explore before needing to clear out unfortunately. There is a part of the garden featuring hops and beer-helping plants. Loads of paths, lots of greenery...you can't go wrong. In the center of the park is the Palm House, which is spectacular to look at from the outside. It costs extra to go in, and I was at the end of my budget so I didn't get to go inside to see the exotic and tropical plants. If you like walking around in nature and looking at pretty things, you should come to the Botanisk Have. Also then you are close to the national art and geology museums...three birds (attractions) and one transit stop! Worth a stroll through! read more

The Botanical Garden is free. Within the garden is the Palm House and Butterfly House, which costs DKK 60. In the Palm House it can be quite humid, especially when you go up the cast-iron spiral staircase. Some of the plants are overgrown, so it's a bit difficult to walk the pathways. Simply stunning, the botanical garden of Copenhagen is a very large park. With a big lake at the center and surrounded by paths that bring you in and through the various trees, plants and shrubbery, it's an awesome spot for a good walk. On a calm day, the lake at the center was almost perfectly smooth and made for some lovely reflective photographs. The gardens date back to August 1600, when the first garden was created at the current location. Back then, the plants grown were used mostly for medication. It's grown significantly since then, obviously. Today, over 23,000 different registered plants are distributed throughout the property as well as 27 greenhouses. Much of the Gardens are open to the public and are free. read more

An absolutely gorgeous place to visit, especially in the spring or summer when the flowers are in bloom outdoors (but still worth the visit in fall). There's so much to see here from the butterfly house to the various outdoor plant species and fountain. Bring a lunch, as it is a popular picnic spot. They have some tables available or you can choose a lovely shady spot under a big tree. Up to you! If you happen to live in the area, they also have a plant shop near the entrance. read more

I absolutely love gardens and parks. They are romantic and fun. This botanical garden is pretty awesome. Frist, its free! America has very few botanical gardens that are free. Second it was lovely. The smell of fresh flowers, the main pounds and lakes and the open green grass is inviting for a stroll or picnic. Children were rolling down the hills and parents were sitting in laughter and discussion watching. Fun fact: Copenhagen has a bee initiative and has set up bee hives around the city. One of them is in this botanical garden and you can buy honey from the bee hives here. It was cool because they also have a hive set up by the airport. We were able to try both honeys and see a huge difference in the floral notes from the botanical gardens honey. Great for a picnic, book, fun with kids or a walk through. read more

This was a great garden and of a decent size. The plants are beautiful and in large quantities. There is a variety of plants grown here and beautiful backdrops for pictures. There is a large pond that is more towards the middle of the park. The museums here are cool to look at with interesting exhibits. read more

Worth going especially in the late summer early autumn when everything is green and blooming! Just taking a walk with a coffee or tea in your hand there, is so refreshing. It's an amazing escape from the city life and the fact that it's in the heart of the city makes it even better! I especially like the small paths that have been made around with the labels of the flowers. I also love the palm tree house which accommodates different kinds of palm trees from all over the world. You can even walk on a path that you reach with stairs on top of the building giving you a view from above. However it has been unfortunately under construction for at least a year now. But I have been there in a winter day when it was open and it felt like being in a tropical paradise! So much worth it on a cold day! There are also some greenhouses where you can go inside and see various plants and flowers. It's just a great experience. In summer time there is a cafe on top of the stairs of the main building which has a nice view towards the gardens and lake. Definitely worth a visit! read more

This botanic garden is so pretty! Im sure during summer time it is even more. Even though it is a place perfect for a walk. It is very close to other touristic routes so you'll end up there anyway - happened to me =) I wish I had a book with me and maybe more time to seat on the grass and just enjoy the afternoon. The area around the pond is lovely, you will probably see many couples - and kids - there. This one is just one of many green areas in Copenhagen, this city is lovely. read more

Beautiful, beautiful park. If you're a big fan of various plant species, go see the Palme House and go on in. Otherwise (unless you have a Copenhagen Card), there's not much point. The garden itself is huge and great for picnics. It's very clean and filled with locals and visitors. It's also home the the rock museum and what will become the natural history museum. To have this kind of oasis right in the middle of the city is truly a heaven and I love Copenhagen for that. I love the fact that this old city has so many greenery places to soothe your eyes with (and learn about plants at the same time) just a couple of minute walks away from the pee-smelling, trash-infested, crowded Nørreport station. If you're into botanics or into plants in general, this is a must visit place in Copenhagen. Free entrance, what else do you want more really? It's vast, and it's beautiful with a man-made lake right in the middle and a glass-house with tropical plants and feel (oh the humidity!) if you can't afford a trip to the south especially during wintertime. JUST KIDDING. I'd love to have a stroll here, be it on your own with your notebook, storybook, sketchbook, whatever, or with your friends to have a picnic or just to escape the "city" for awhile. It's totally recommended especially in the summer when it's so nice to be outside and when the weather is not plagued by the recurrent summer rain as we know it from the chapter about "Danish summer". This place also have a gift shop that sells a lot of plants-related things (seeds, pots, different plants, obviously) and plants-themed memorabilia. Perfect for people with green fingers. read more

Lovely place. I love finding a bench somewhere and sit and read for a while. So much wildlife, fishing cranes are regulars, look for turtles sitting on tree branches sticking out of the lake and sunning themselves in Summer. They're not native to Denmark, people have put them in the lake for various reasons. It's a research garden under the University of Copenhagen, and you're not allowed to bring a bike into the garden! read more

Beautiful park right in the heart of the city! A classic botanical gardens, originally intended to show the city's people the flowers and plants of the world. This park isn't huge, and don't expect a lot of overgrown, urban wilderness. It is well-kept and proper, with a lake, and a green house. The green house is a lot of fun, because this is, in fact, quite overgrown, so you almost feel like you're walking in a jungle. Some of the structures, including the platform around the green house, are in a bit of disrepair, and are currently under construction, but that doesn't take away from this being a really nice park. It is also part of what is known as the Park Museums, a collection of art and historical museums located in a series of parks along Øster Farimagsgade. read more

We got here way too early and realized they didn't open until 10am so we took a long walk back to the city center and had a cup of coffee while we waited. Then we walked all the way back. It's quite discreet from the street but hey, it's free! We walked in and saw the large green house but it looked more rundown in person than in pictures. The grounds definitely made up for it. Neatly manicured and well organized. My toddler was more interested in the pebbles on the ground than the grass. We eventually moved him over to the duck pond where he fed them some crackers. He got a kick out of them. It's a nice place if you have an hour or two to kill. We didn't go all the way around. Just enough to get some fresh air and pictures. read more

We went here on our Sweden-Copenhagen-London vacation, during which time we went to each place's main botanical garden. This was the least impressive of the three--by far--though I'm giving it 3 stars instead of the 2 I think it deserves because of the context of Copenhagen. Meaning: there is so little to do in Copenhagen that is free, and this is one thing. And for something free, it's easily a couple hours' worth of enjoyment. The main draw of the Botanisk Have, at least for us, was the glasshouse. The display was... okay. Less fun than other botanical gardens I've been to... just sort of clinical in its organization. I did enjoy the massive amounts of vanilla in the orchid house, though. read more

I had a wonderful experience at the Botanical Garden in Copenhagen. It was a great free way to some time and it had an incredible array of foliage. There is also a spiral staircase that takes you to the top of the dome and allows you to walk amongst the trees. I visited at the beginning of March, while it was snowing outside, so it provided a perfect escape from the cold. I felt like I was in my own isolated world. The Botanical Garden is surrounded by a beautiful park and is located right next to the fantastic Danish National Museum and Amalienborg Palace. read more

One of the most beautiful outdoor spaces in Copenhagen. Perfect for picnics, strolls and dates or even to curl up here with a good book. I love the pond area where the koi fish are. I recommend coming here on the weekend since their hours are only open till 18:00. read more

Lots of stuff to walk around and see, including a ton of statues of mythical figures. There are a ton of paths around the park so be sure to map out where you want to end up. A great free activity in this expensive city! Whether it is summer or winter, I can easily enjoy a walk through this garden. It is kept fairly clean and in the winter it is great to walk into the greenhouse and warm up. Of course in the spring and summer it is more colourful and the café is open, making it more lively. Though it is quiet considering its placement in the city center. You can enjoy a picnic on the grass in certain areas but obviously no grilling allowed! read more

I love botanical gardens so I had to check this place out on my trip to Copenhagen. It's one of the most idyllic places I've ever been! So many birds chirping, bunnies hopping, swans swimming, chipmunks scampering, and stylish people having picnics on the grass. It felt like actual paradise. I even went two days in a row. I especially loved the majestic palm greenhouse. The second day I went early and got there just as the greenhouse opened (10am), so I even got a few precious moments in there by myself to take photos of the awesome spiral staircases swirling up into the palm trees. read more

On a sunny day the Botanical Gardens are a place you really should visit. It is fun just to stroll through the park, or have a little picnic on one of the park benches - although there is a lot of different plants to see. Just be aware that the danish people are very strict about the closing times - better don't be late. read more
