We visited Christmas week looking for some California Sauvignon Blancs. The store is well organized and we easily found our way to that section. To our delight, we found two favorites: Dry Creek Vineyard and Grgich Hills! Love sharing local Sonoma County and Napa Country favorites with our friends and family in NJ. I had an absolutely great time browsing the beer and craft selection at this spot. Even though the staff was clearly busy handling their delivery day, the atmosphere felt lively and well-organized. A gentleman, who I believe was named Ryan, came up to me and asked if I needed any help. He was super friendly and took the time to help me explore their excellent selection, which made the experience even better. Meanwhile, a younger kid was constantly restocking the shelves, keeping everything neat and fully stocked. If you're looking for your standard beer and liquor/spirits, Bottle King has it. Just like a regular liquor shop, some things they hold and some things they don't. They have a decent selection if you want to try something new and okay prices. The last time I picked something up, there weren't many employees around to ask a question. This new Bottle King location -- across the street from the old one -- has the most impressive selection of beer and wine in the area. Opened for business in early 2017 -- it has become my new favorite attitude adjustment retailer. Most of the yelp reviews of this BK speak to the old location (now a farmers market). The new one is considerably improved -- housed in a new, upscale building -- with greatly expanded floor and shelf space and parking dedicated solely to this store. The suds selection is encyclopedic and they stock warehouse quantity! I found various flavors of my favorite Icelandic brew here (Einstock) and a nice balance between domestic, micro brews and imports. Plenty of small batch NY and NJ breweries are represented -- as are makers from the left coast. Wines are logically organized by country and style -- most with ratings from experts that most folks would recognize -- and they stock considerable quantities by the case -- many at off price. A little thin on super premium bourbon, scotch and gin (Stew Leonard's in Paramus stocks a better selection of high end spirits) -- but plenty of the standard suspects can be found here -- in all sorts of sizes. The good news is they can add your preference to their stock -- just let the manager know. If you are last minute shopping and need some munchies for a party -- their cheese selection (with all the accoutrements) is convenient and should satisfy most palates. And since imbibing goes hand in glove with cigar smoke for many -- BK even sports a modestly sized standing humidor with a decent selection of cigars. None of the super premium smokes -- but the old reliables like Macanudo and Avo look reasonably fresh. But If you really must have great smokes -- the Tobacco Shop of Ridgewood (with its full Davidoff line and lounge) is a few minutes drive away -- and worth the extra effort. Top Tip: If you become a BK member (free) you get additional discounts that can add up to some serious cash -- especially if your tastes run towards the high end or greater quantities. read more

I wanted to take the time to call out the amazing leadership of your district manager Jeff Wertalik. I was second in line for your bottle signing with the stars of "Breaking Bad". Over a thousand people showed up. It could have been a very disorganized, chaotic event.... it was not. I watched Jeff manage not only the great employees of Bottle King, but the massive crowd. He did it with absolute excellence, grace, and ultimately like a consummate professional. I managed a high end grocery store outside of DC for over 18 years, and I was beyond impressed and thankful for the leadership Jeff provided during this popular event. Jeff's demeanor never changed, even when things became extremely stressful. He had a smile on his face and took on all of the challenges presented to him. These stores used to be great. The reason being, they sold craft beer by the case. Then out of nowhere they will only sell it by the six pack which is unfortunate and more expensive. This place is fantastic! I used to frequent the one in Ramsey (Rte 17) when I lived in Allendale. I now live in Wyckoff and the Glen Rock Bottle King is closer. They used to be across the street a few years ago, and they were good there. But the new place is even better! Parking is better, the store is larger with more room. There is great cheese and bread. And the prices are about the best you can get around here. I highly recommend Bottle King! read more

Normally I'm not a fan of chain stores. I would prefer to give my money to a local guy or a small business. Every once in a while, however, the big guy is so much better, easier and cheaper that I use them over everyone else. Bottle King is that big guy. Their selection of wines and liquor is unsurpassed and arranged in a logical way so it's easy to find something specific. Prices are exceptional and substantially lower than their competitors. Beer selection is also great although, in interest of full disclosure, I don't really buy much beer. They also have quite a nice gourmet food and cheese department. Usually where chains drop the ball is service. Not so with Bottle King. Their staff is both knowledgeable and friendly, always more than willing to help in any way they can. I don't buy much in the way of alcohol but when I do, I go to Bottle King in Glen Rock. I really see no compelling reason to shop elsewhere. read more

I live in North Carolina but hosted a bridal shower in Midland Park. I wanted prosecco splits with ribbons and custom card as favors so called ahead to Bottle King to figure out what kind of sparkling wine and to order to insure they had enough for when I came up to NJ. Bottle King is definitely a local favorite in my neck of the woods. Been coming here since high school. Well, the people who were buying for me in high school went there. There is a large selection at great prices (even better prices if you are a club member or have a good relationship with a club member who will hook you up). The sell craft beers, liquor, wines from all around the world. I love that the sections are well labeled and they even have descriptions and suggestions within each section. In addition to wine they have a refrigerated food pairing section with things like cheese, chocolate, and Italian meats to compliment your wine. I would say there is enough of a selection to make a cheeseboard but not enough to come off as a cheese aficionado with your guests. They also carry gadgets like cool glasses and mugs, pourers, stirrers, drink making sets, etc. Just got myself an aerator and I cant wait to test it out. read more

This Bottle King had the Cape May beer that I wanted to buy. However, This evening, a young male cashier talked to me (I'm a Customer) rudely, assumingly, and abruptly told me that I should have known all the prices for all their items were already marked down next to them as their lowest prices. Years ago, items' lowest costs were not always shown except once when a customer like myself went to the cashier to find out. I just didn't like on how this young male cashier talked to me in his assuming and already decided tone in. I wonder if this particular young male cashier talks to all customers in the same way. He was surprised that I gave him advise. Maybe his management should give him advice about his assumptions when talking to customers. read more

Looked at my boyfriend and said, "I know where to go". We went to shop rite liquors in fair lawn and the 2 workers there were masked and helpful. I'm an ER nurse and understand precautions. "Change of address" is a concept not grasped by management -- after having to fill out a small slip containing my address, name, DOB, etc., I was turned away because my license address does not match the one I marked on the slip. Here are some things for management to consider: A) People move and don't update their licenses immediately B) When someone can recite their current and license addresses from memory, in that order, and produce other matching forms of ID, they may be sincere rather than desperate (manager said "you only had one shot to get it right") C) "Try again tomorrow" won't do you or someone underage any good I will say, great selection. Doesn't hurt being the only seller in the immediate area. read more

I am never coming back here. The cashier had such an attitude because we misread one of the sale signs. She told the next customer she couldn't take him because she "can't void ALLL" our items...there were 3. She did end up voiding them a couple seconds later because she was so impatient. She bossed around the guy behind us again when he was trying to load his wine bottles on the counter because we wouldn't be able to swipe our card with them in the way..wah wah wahh. I come here only when I am in the area and when its the most convenient. This is your average liquor store with a few different additions then most. One thing I really enjoyed was that they have a small cheese and cured meat section. At the time I was picking up a bottle of wine for a girls night and the cheese and cured meats were a great addition to the night. Once upon a time, two friends and I drove 4 hours from Westerly, Rhode Island, to Glen Rock, New Jersey so that I could purchase my favorite beer of all time. I lived in Dallas, Texas, for 8 years, and the most amazing discovery I made was Shiner Bock. Unfortunately Shiner doesn't distribute beyond New Jersey, so if I want Shiner I have to take a road trip. It's definitely worth it! As far as the store goes, it was a great experience. There were plenty of people available to help, and a great amount of beer, wine and liquor to choose from. They do a shopper savings card program similar to Stop & Shop, but since I wasn't from the area they just put a card through for me. The prices are pretty decent too. They have a selection of snacks and mixers as well. ADDED BONUS: They also carry Yuengling Lager, which is my second favorite beer, and again, not distributed beyond New Jersey. read more

My wife called looking for a specific bottle of champagne. Guy said they had it and confirmed it was on sale. I went to pick it up one hour after the phone call and they said no longer on sale. BRAD was not only rude to me, but to the cashier that was asking him about it also. Huge selection of liquors, wines, beers, mixers, even snacks to pair them with (such as meats and cheeses). There's always enough staff members manning the cash registers that I don't think I've ever waited more than a minute to check out. Theres also a huge parking lot so parking is no issue at all. Adding in the fact that the prices are very reasonable, this bottle king is everything you could reasonably expect from a liquor store. I guess the only downsides are having to sign the electronic pad to confirm your ID or something (never seen that before, don't really care) and trying to make a left out of the parking lot can be difficult. Bottle King offers a variety of specialty items for just about any occasion. It's not that there's a lot of unique merchandise but that it's all under one roof and at pretty decent prices. We've been in for a number of different kinds of beer - and while we've been at it, we've also picked up salsa, cheese, chips and a whole lot of other stuff. Good wine selections too, although the beer section is the real standout. Prices are reasonable, parking is plentiful and service is quick. I'll certainly be back. read more

The plastic bags this store uses are way too thin for the bottles! Two bags just broke on my husband this afternoon, and he lost four bottles of wine. When he brought the broken bottles and bags back to the store, the manager was arrogant, rude and refused to be responsible for their defective bags. He eventually reluctantly refunded us, but when my husband told him, because of his rude attitude, he is losing a loyal customer, who spends hundreds of dollars in his store each month, he said loudly, "We don't care". We will never go back to that store. If you do go there, remember to ask to double bag everything. read more
