It is really overpriced compared with other stores on the east side, but we used to go because it was convenient. They have a great beer selection, but twice in one month we bought microbrews that were expired. The second time we drank 2 of a 4 pack, noticed a terrible taste and saw it was expired in May 2016, over 8 months ago. We brought it back to show them and their response was "oh". If they saw our rewards they would know we were regulars (not anymore), and have never returned anything. So ridiculous. Worth the drive to spend our money elsewhere. read more

When I walked into this store, I felt as though I was lifted up by a little fluffy liquor cloud and was carried carefully from shelf to shelf all around this store. I am a serious browser, and this store was made for indecisive liquor lovers like me. It's spacious, it's bright, it's inviting, and the types of booze are politely sanctioned off from one another so ADHD browsers don't suddenly start losing track of the Italian reds and peering into the single barrel scotches. Having said all that, my visits to this store average forty-five minutes. There's just so much to see and learn! And taste! I found some dessert wine that I usually can't find in retail stores and I was excited to be able to get my hands on some brands of pumpkin-flavored beer that I hadn't tried before. Best part: there is German beer called Gose (it's brewed with coriander and sea salt and is really light) that I love that I can NEVER find. Although they didn't have it in the store, they a. knew what I was talking about and b. were more than willing to order it for me. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable without being hoity-toity, which in the world of liquor-lovers, can be common. I was happy to discover that, although they are on the East Side, their prices are reasonable and comparable to most places. Finally, I like the fact that they have a parking lot AND if I happen to have a hankering for horseradish cheddar when I am in there, I can run right over to Eastside Marketplace and quell my little food fetish easy peasy. There's a great tasting area in the middle of the store that seems to get a lot of play - I am on the mailing list and am constantly being reminded of beer tastings, wine tastings, holiday tastings, etc. So if you are looking to learn a bit, get creative with some alcohol, or just find a nice buzz in the middle of the afternoon without spending lots of money, get on top of their tastings schedule! read more

truthfully I could maybe give this place 3 stars now and when they first opened maybe even 4, but at some point in 2010 or so they stopped having a good high end selection of Bourbons and Ryes at market prices and decided to price stuff on future rarity. Sure they have (or had I haven't been in in a year at this point) a good selection but for brand new releases that are $30-$70 more per bottle than other places for the same bottle (which is a big premium on a $70 bottle) the store just really rubbed me the wrong way with this price gouging. The place has a great selection, that's the good. The bad, they're alcohol snobs. I live on a budget and unfortunately cannot afford the super hip craft beer that's $10 for a six pack, you can feel the judgement as you check out with the look of disdain showering upon you from the too cool cashier with tattoos and all kinds of piercings. Add insult to injury with the price of their products. I understand there aren't a lot of options for alcohol in the immediate area but charging the prices they do is borderline criminal, especially with all the college aged individuals who frequent them. I'm happy to say I've relocated to another geographical area where I will not have to go here anymore. Again if you like selection and price is no worry this place is for you. This holiday season, I am thankful for Bottles. Compared to pretty much every other liquor store in Providence, this place is a breath of fresh air. They have a great selection of beer (where else can I get Allagash Tripel?), hard cider (Julian if my fav) and wines. As a wannabe mixologist, they have everything I need to make weird old-fashioned cocktails (like Fee Brothers Whiskey Barrel-Aged Bitters). Plus the atmosphere is friendly and low-key (not at all stuffy or snobish). The employees are super knowledgeable and always have good suggestions. This is just a nice, dare I say "classy" place, which is probably why it's the only liquor store around where you will see parents with their children. read more

It's been this way for a couple years now, so we usually defer to a little place up the street unless we need to pick up wine too. I like this place for many reasons already noted. But I must say that they disappoint me lately. Several times in recent weeks, I've planned my errands and outings around getting there before they close (10 pm). In a few cases, I've arrived at 9:50 pm or perhaps 9:51 pm. And they are shut down cold, lights off. I don't appreciate when a business does this. They are really good in a number of ways. With a large selection and a clean, updated look, Bottles feels like the right place to get a nice, well, bottle. Grab a sixer after the gym and recharge those calories! The only downside is that they do not appear to highlight any of the lower priced wines. I'm not cheap, but sometimes you just want a $10 bottle of Pinot. I spend a lot of time in Providence, and first heard of Bottles when it was mentioned on Pretty Things' Facebook page. I was excited to check out the beer department. Prices are a little on the high side, but this is fair considering the location. I was looking forward to making this my regular beer store, but a few issues mean I probably won't be back: 1) The beer is generally arranged by style instead of region/location. This is a horrible way to organize things, since style can be fairly subjective while region is not. It made it difficult to find specific beers, and it was confusing that the offerings from each brewery were spread out across the entire store. Every other beer store I've been to has a domestic section (maybe organized by state), an import section, and perhaps a separate Belgian section. I'm sure somebody thought this was a good way to lay the store out, and maybe it works for wine, but it just doesn't work for beer. 2) I bought two bottles of beer, one big and one small, and the cashier placed them both in a small paper bag. I didn't notice that she "69ed" the bottles (for lack of a better term), putting the smaller bottle upside down next to the bigger bottle. I put the bag in the car, and thought both bottles were upright. Unfortunately the smaller beer was a bottle of Rochefort, a bottle conditioned beer with a good bit of yeast sediment, and I had a couple hours of errands to run after I was at Bottles. When I opened the beer a few weeks later, the yeast was still settled out on the inside of the bottle neck and cap, and it made for a messy pour. I have no problem with some Belgian yeast in my beer, but I like to be able to control it. Would the same cashier bag a bottle of wine upside down? Champagne? I really have no reason to go back here. It was out of my way, the prices weren't great, the store layout was confusing, and I ended up with a $8 glass full of yeast thanks to a negligent cashier. read more

Bottles here is the knees bees. I don't generally eat candy anymore, but a good liquor store gives me that feeling of a kid in a candy shop. Bottles doesn't always have the cheapest selection in town, but boy do they have a selection. They have wine, they have beer, they have rum, vodka, and whiskey, er mah gerd do they have whiskey. Even when I'm just running in to pick up something small, I often find myself gaping at the meticulously organized whiskey wall, drooling over scotch selections I can't yet justify purchasing. All the products here all well organized and displayed, and the selections are incredibly diverse. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable, and there are staff picks and monthly deals at all times. The check out area is well stocked with miscellaneous products for your drink mixing needs, and they have a rewards program if that's your kind of thing. The have weekly events/tastings if I recall correctly too. Highly recommend. If you're looking for a specific size of a specific thing they may not always have it, but it's a great place to expand your palate. read more

The selection of liquor, from fine scotches, to exquisite wines to beers of all kinds made my liver quiver in anticipation. The staff was incredibly helpful, and I made one of the best sake purchases. If you're into establishment decor, Bottles does not disappoint either. The store is clean, shelves are organized and the overall vibe is cool and contemporary. This is not including the free liquor, wine and beer tasting that occur multiple times per week.
