Nice liquor store. Parking is a bit of a hassle. Still not clear if they do or don't have a small private parking lot... We had to pay for metered parking down the street. Pain.... Anyway. The employees (owners?) were very welcoming, helpful and friendly. They have a very nice selection of expensive wines, and beer. But be aware, you won't find ANY of the low-priced wines we were looking for, like Little Penguin, Yellow Tail, Beringer, Barefoot, Liberty Creek and alike. Everything is $14 and up... Gasbarro's will be my new go-to wine store from now on. I stopped by this week looking for a few specific wines for a wine class. Gasbarro's had one of the three in stock. Tim assisted me with finding a comparable wine by region and year. He took the time to get to know me as a customer and make sure I left happy with his recommendations. We used Gasbarros for an event last year that went pretty well. This year we were planning on using Gasbarro's again for another big client event. We had been planning things for 3 months. Then I got a call from someone at the store saying they could no longer do our event - a week before. They did not have any other person besides Mark apparently who can run tastings. And they did not even try to help me find a replacement. So I had to go scramble to find someone completely on my own. We also were locked into a catering bill, even if we had to cancel. They had no sympathy for our situation and basically told me I was on my own. Funny because I got their newsletter and found out they were throwing their own wine tasting that night . Never got a follow up call, apology or anything. I do not recommend hiring for events. read more

A place that has its own parking on Federal Hill -- yes, please! I find the staff to be helpful and knowledgeable. When choosing a wine, they will help you both stay within your price point, but still choose a bottle that will meet the need (or flavor) that you are looking for. The space is very open with lots of selection options, especially of the Italian varietal. There is a selection of spirits and beer too -- but the store is most heavily stocked with wine. Join the mailing list and receive updates on regular wine tastings, and these tastings often include someone from the vineyard or company that imports the wine. A family-owned operation -- support your local business owner, as they support the community. (Which I happen to know that this store does support community organizations). read more

Gasbarro is a great place to go for a nice bottle of wine for a gift or special occasion. The store is set up with an open table used for weekly wine tastings and events in the front, a specialty wine cellar flanking the side wall (a place I can never imagine having the money to enter), 100s of wine choices stacked on boxes on the floor, traditional aisles of wines and liquor, and a back fridge with craft beers. What I love about this place is that they have a wine for every occasion. Whether I'm looking to pick something up for a casual night at home, or to get a gift for someone I know that I can find interesting wine options here. I especially love their 50% off table that houses the end of bin wines at half price. This has allowed me to get a really expensive wine as a gift for an affordable price. The people who work here are friendly and knowledgeable about their wines, and it's always a bonus when I end up there on the night of a wine tasting. I do wish they were open a little later (and they were for a little bit). read more

I went in to find a specific Moscato that I have been looking for, only to be treated with disrespect. It was a 30 second interaction where one of the employees called both me and my friend "simple minded" for not wanting to buy another wine. They were also eating right on the counter without masks while we were walking in and out. Really disappointed. I had gone once previously and had good service. I've ordered from these guys before. I live in Hampton bays, New York (3 1/2 hours away) My roommate loves this specific type of wine and no one has the specific year anywhere around here. I ordered again and forgot to have it shipped (was a little tipsy and chose the pickup option by accident) called the next morning and these guys already had my info from before and fixed the situation right then and there and also had it boxed up and shipped that day! The shipping fee is a little pricey but I've never had an issue with packaging or anything and let's be honest you get what you pay for. Totally worth the price amazing customer service !!! Ordered liquor as a gift for a friend. Gasbarro's sent the wrong one AND a week delayed. I only found out that the wrong order was sent when I had asked my friend if they got my gift. When I called Gasbarro's, Tim picked up and said he had been waiting for my call?? Does it mean they wouldn't have said anything if I hadn't called? Overall, Tim is unresponsive over email and does not take customer seriously. Never ordering from here again. read more

Gasbarro's Wine Store on Federal Hill in Providence is simply one of the very best Italian wine stores in the country. There is something for everyone at Gasbarros, whether your taste is Californian, French, Spanish, etc; but the Italian Wine Selection is second to none. They are also very trustworthy. This business is not run by the Gasbarro family anymore. I have been shopping here for nearly 25 years and got used to the great service and selection from Mark Gasbarro and his father before him. I was really shocked and angry to see that the new people running the store now are not family, but they are using the Gasbarro's name and story! Unbelievable. I liked coming here because it was a step up from other wine stores. All of the staff was so professional and looked the part. The guy who I talked to when I went in last was not dressed professionally and reeked of cigarettes. AND, I was looking for my favorite chianti (one that my wife and I discovered in Italy and used to buy here), and they didn't have it, didn't offer to order it, and kept trying to make me buy a chianti that I never heard of! This used to be a 5 star place, but not anymore. Do yourself a favor, shop somewhere else for your wine, I know I will. read more

I called from NYC at 3:30pm on the day before Thanksgiving--while it was snowing out no less--to ask if it would be possible to deliver a bottle of wine to my dad in Providence and they made it happen!
