My boyfriend and I moved here September 2019 and it was our very first apartment. We're both younger and because of this, we believe we were taken advantage of. Shortly after we moved into apartment #2103 at the Springs, I developed major health issues that was believed to be caused by possible mold in our apartment. I began to have a cough and some lung pains. As time progressed I became more ill, dealing with reoccurring lung infections, lung inflammation, bloody noses, headaches, dizziness extreme fatigue and much more. I had been into the ER several times, and had tons of doctors appointments and even started seeing a pulmonologist. I had several tests performed, including X-rays, and even a CT scan done, to ensure it was not some type of immune disorder or cancer. Many doctors including my pulmonologist believed my issues were most likely from mold, mildew, formaldehyde, or some type of air quality issue of my living space. We found several concerning dark spots around our apartment and contacted management several times and their solution had been to have maintenance paint over the spots and make several excuses. They said the spots were not mold and just some dirt on the wall (one of the maintenance men shared that he had seen mold at the other Lakeville springs location and he did not believe the spot was mold). I felt as they did absolutely nothing and avoided the situation. We also had a neighbor share that they did have mold once growing on the outside of their apartment and it took forever for the issue to be resolved. As I shared before, due to my boyfriend and I's age, we felt we were not taken serious so the issue was never resolved. I missed many days of work due to my health issues, I had days where I would wake up with an extremely swollen face, a bloody nose, dizziness, and I would cough up blood. It got so bad and to the point that I became so weak that I could barely get dressed because my body was so fatigued and in distress. We asked to break the lease because of these medical issues and the apartment declined. I became so ill that my boyfriend and I had to move back in with my parents in March because we had no other options. Shortly after being home for a few weeks, all of my symptoms went away, I shared this information with Kayla (one of the apartment managers, and she begged me to try testing out the apartment again because they had changed the HVAC filter). We moved back in for about a week and my symptoms began again and we moved right back out and I haven't had any of those health issues since moving out. Even though we could no longer live in the apartment (because we believed it to be inhabitable), we had to continue to pay rent from March to the end of our lease September 22nd. I just want to share this information because I would never want anyone to experience these issues. Please, to avoid destroying your physical and mental health like I did, find somewhere else to live. Also, these reviews may seem good and maybe others may have had good experiences, I just want to put it out there that they offered online (through resident portal), for residents to be put in a raffle for a prize in return for posting a review...so take that information however you'd like.

This is included the emails, phone call times, etc. We weren't able to tour our exact unit prior to moving in, just one "similar". Even though in the leasing agreement AND the paperwork regarding the terms of moving out - it clearly states that your unit can be shown at anytime for future residents. When we moved in. Our apartment instantly smelt of cat urine. BAD. After 2 months of going back and forth with management, we finally got the carpet replaced. (Only in the living room) both bedrooms were still ruined. ** I have pictures of the ripped up stained carpet ** We received 0 compensation. The afternoon we went to turn in our vacating notice.. my boyfriend got stuck in the elevator for an hour. ** I recorded video the entire time ** Carla, the manager - guilted us for wanting to call the fire department after many failed attempts of opening the doors, and the maintenance worker not returning her calls on the "emergency line". She honestly told us that if we called she would have to pay a fine. OF COURSE YOU HAVE TO! AS YOU SHOULD. Your elevator doesn't work and your resident has been stuck for the last hour. Again, no compensation and not even a follow up later. No apologies, asking how we are, nothing. This is honestly only a couple examples. Can't forget them saying we didn't pay our last month of rent (when we had autopay set up until our move out date) They then wanted to charge us, and for us to write a new check. Even said they couldn't re-process the online payment. They'd try, but "just in case" we should write a check too! -- Huh. Auto payment worked just fine after we refused to write an additional check. Carla is scum. Not sure who her trainer was, and I'm also not sure who her manager is. Clearly they don't know how things are being managed. I reached out to the "Vice-President" and she asked what the issues were - and never responded. So professional! If anyone wants the document -- feel free to contact me. This place is horrible and overpriced for the "luxury" home you live in, and the service you are given. I'll post the pictures of the destroyed carpet that we would've definitely smelt had we been given a tour of our unit prior to moving in. Anyone would've smelt it. Management is extremely shady. Anyone that knows what cat urine smells like knows how bad this smelt. This isn't an "accident" it's a cat that clearly was doing this all the time. The management didn't smell this in any of the walkthroughs? They replaced it for us for free (as expected) no compensation for the inconvenience though!

After several complaints of the complex failing to shovel, plow or salt after storms, the property became a layer of ice from packed down snow leading to me slipping and falling in a crosswalk and resulting in 4 chiropractor appointments in a 7 day period. I have asked 4 times (3 in person and 1 via the Hearthstone website) for a manger to contact me regarding my injury - no one replied, however, when we held out paying rent until I spoke with a manager they were quick to post their nasty-gram about being late on payment and then threatened eviction - ARE YOU KIDDING ME. When I spoke to Christine, the "interim" manager, because the previous manager recently was fired she told me that I was asking for a specific manager and she was only there part time and that not paying my rent has nothing to do with slipping on ice and that she can't have an instant salter at the property at all times... ahh wake the hell up, that is the job of the Landscape company - don't be so F'n cheap and tell them not to salt! I explained that I should have to ask repeatedly to speak to a manger regarding the situation - The management and corporate office lack some VERY serious people skill and understanding of service. I used to own my own company in Vermont that did property maintenance and have work for companies throughout New England that did property maintenance (ummm, yea, it is a snow belt and doesn't get any less snow or cold than Minnesota - CHRISTINE) I know for a fact that you can plow snow DURING a storm and keep walkways clear and SALTED during a storm and not have ice build up AFTER a storm and if it is too cold for salt - shocker - sand works GREAT! This place is a S-hole for the amount that is paid (although John in maintenance is a cool dude and I feel bad for the crap he has to deal with). The management does not care about the tenants, only that they get their rent on time, regardless if they don't respond to your needs - if you are thinking about moving to Hearthstone - DON'T! Kingstown apartments on 157th are much better maintained and cheaper - glad I'm moving out in 2 weeks!

Staff said they would contact the company and get it resolved and get me reimbursed for my brand new roomba. Staff just ignored me until I stopped asking about the resolution. None of the cameras work. Even in the package room. packages go missing and they claim "it wasn't caught on camera." even in the lobbies and the garage. every time I asked for camera footage they just respond with "the camera didn't catch it." I moved out 1.5 months early (but paid my full lease). I let them Have the keys back early so they could prep for the next tenant. They ran up an 80 dollar electric bill when my apartment was completely empty (it was 20 dollars the previous month) and refuse to help pay any of that bill. If I didn't try to do the nice thing and let them in early, they would have been responsible for the bill. Don't do them any favors- they will do whatever they can to screw you out of every penny.

The elevator also started on fire/exploded and now we don't have an elevator and will be without one for 3 months and had to move out without one. It took us SIXTEEN people to get everything moved out of the FORTH floor and they threatened us with the sheriffs and we called them ourselves and they told us they were too busy as they had bigger things to deal with. I walked out of my apartment heading to work and I was locking my door and had an african american little boy touch my butt and the mother was right there and said NOTHING. They are greedy for money and have no sympathy even during a pandemic. Stay away from here if possible. They tried to charge $12k in move out fees when the carpet needed to be replaced when we moved in and it never happened.

It did not start out great; first the elevators broke as we were moving in therefore our move was more costly, since we paid by the hour. Then a day later our master bathroom and part of our bedroom was flooded with raw sewage, yes raw sewage, for our troubles we received $1000 dollars off our rent. That was barely enough to cover our hotel and extra move but not really enough to compensate for the aggravation. I had to grin and bear it even though it took me several weeks, mentally, to wipe the image of a poop covered bathroom and shower out of my mind. I asked for more but it was ignored. Then, I was charged a pet fee even though my dog did not live there for the first 3 months, and my husband transferred to Atlanta 1 month into our stay and I was told that I would have to continue to pay for his parking space. Finally there was the noisy upstairs neighbors, most nights after a long day at work I just wanted to get home and relax, but no they were a 'large extended family and someone was always up. I just wanted peace and quiet. The managements solution was that I knock on their door and tell them to be more quiet. That is not a wise move in these days of people harming others over less. When I told them no; they did send them some emails them about it, and they claimed that the replies were apologetic; Still actions speak louder than words the running, pounding, hammering, and shouting continued unabated. It did have one good consequence, neighbor above them and I did bond over the shared aggravation, so I do give them kudos for making me a new lifelong friend, no matter what the source; even though I have moved that friendship stands!

The cafe, which used to provide coffee and cookies 7 mornings a week has been cut back to 5 mornings. The very advantageously priced cable/internet package, which used Direct TV, was abruptly terminated. With little prior notice the management made "a deal" with Comcast that essentially doubled the costs of service. Most of us are sure there is a "rebate" to management involved. Just today they announced that when leases are up for renewal tenants will start to pay for water, trash, sewer separately. Until now those charges have been included in the rent. We'll all have to wait and see what the new management will try to squeeze out of tenants in terms of new rents. I am far from optimistic. Don't misunderstand, please. It is a very nice building. it's well maintained. It's comfortable and has great facilities. The other tenants are lovely and respectful of each other. I have no complaints at all except for what appears to be the increased greed factor of the new owners.
